how 1/5 came in that left hand side equation

Question:

In an election, two candidates participated, 10% voters did not vote, 3000 votes declared invalid and the winner gets 60% of the valid votes and wins by 12000 votes, then find the number of votes in the voting list.

Options:
A)

70000

B)

72400

C)

75600

D)

78200

E)

None of these

Solution:

Alternate sol.:

Let's Total number of voters be x

if 10% of total voters did not vote then remaining votes % is 90%ofx

ATQ

60%of (90%of x- 3000) - 20% of (90%of x- 3000)=12000

20%of(90%of x- 3000) = 12000

(90%of x- 3000)=\(\cfrac{(12000\times100)}{20}\)

\(\cfrac{(90\times x)}{100}=60000+3000=63,000\)

x=70,000
