Question:

DIRECTIONS: Each of the questions below consists of a question and three statements numbered I, II and III given below it, you have to decide whether the data provided in the statements are sufficient to answer the question.

On which date does Tanuja’s mother’s birthday fall?

I. Tanuja remembers that her mother’s birthday was after 15th September but before 19th September.

II. Tanuja’s sister remembers that her mother’s birthday was after 14th September but before 18th September.

III. Tanuja’s brother remember that his mother’s birthday was after 16th September but before 20th September. 

Options:
A)

Only I and II are sufficient.

B)

Only II and III are sufficient.

C)

Only I and III are sufficient.

D)

All I, II and III together are sufficient.

E)

The question cannot be answered even with I, II and III together.

Solution:

Ans: (d) From I, we can say  Tanuja’s mother birthday is on 16th or 17th or 18th of September.

∴ I alone is not sufficient.

From II, we can say that Tanuja’s mothers birthday is on 15th or 16th or 17th of September.

∴ II alone is not sufficient.

From III, we can say that Tanuja’s mother birthday is on 17th or 18th or 19th September.

By combining the statements we can say that Tanuja’s mother birthday is on 17th September.

∴ All I, II and III together are sufficient.
