Train P, going at a speed of 90 kmph, overtakes another train Q of length 300 m moving at a speed of 72 kmph in two and half minutes. The length of train P is ___

Options:
A) 350 m 
B) 400 m 
C)  450 m
D) 500 m
E)  None of these
Solution:
Ans:(c) Relative speed of P and Q = 90 – 72 = 18 kmph = 5 m/s

Time to overtake = 2  ½  min. = 150 sec.

Let the length of train P = (x) m

Speed = dis/time

5 = (300 + x)/150

750 = 300 + x 

X = 450

60 sec in 1 min so 120 sec in 2 min and 30 sec. In half min so total is 120+30 = 150 sec
