Question:
The income of A and B are in the ratio 5: 3. The expenses of A, B and C are in the ratio of 8: 5: 2. If C spends 2000 and B saves Rs. 700, then A saves:
Options:
A) Rs.1500
B) Rs.1000
C) Rs.500
D) Rs.250
E) None of these
Solution:

Ratio of incomes of A & B are = 5 : 3

Ratio of expenses of A, B & C = 8 : 5 : 2

C’s expenditure = Rs. 2000

∴ B’s expenditure =  \(\frac{5}{2}\) × C’s expenditure

=  \(\frac{5}{2}\) × Rs.2000 = Rs.5000

B’s saving = Rs. 700

B’s income = Expenditure + saving

= Rs. 5000 + Rs. 700

= Rs. 5700

A’s Income  =  \(\frac{5}{3}\) of B’s income

=  \(\frac{5}{3}\) × Rs. 5700 = Rs. 9500

 A’s Expenditure  =  \(\frac{8}{2}\) of C’s expenditure

=  \(\frac{8}{2}\) × Rs. 2000 = Rs. 8000

∴ A’s savings = Rs. 9500 – Rs. 8000

= Rs. 1500
