mixtures and allocation

Question:
From 600 litres of pure milk, 10% is withdrawn and replaced by 60 litres of a mixture that contains 50% milk. If this operation is carried out for a total of 4 times, what is the final quantity of milk as a percentage of the initial quantity of milk approximately?
Options:
A) 75.6
B) 82.8
C) 80.5
D) 89.7
E) None of these
Solution:
Ans. (b)  From the pure milk, 60 litres of milk is removed and is replaced by a liquid that contains 30 litres of milk.

Therefore, total amount of milk in 600 litres of mixture is 570 litres.

Now 57 litres is removed and 30 litres more is added. So, 27 litres is removed

Therefore, total milk left at the end

= 600 – 30 – 27 – 24.3 – 21.87 = 496.83 litres.

Required % = 496.83/600 x 100% = 82.8%

Dear Student, Initially, quantity of Pure Milk = 600 litres 10% milk is withdrawn, Now quantity of pure milk = 600 -10% of 600 = 600 - 60 = 540 litres 10% withdrawn milk is replaced by 60 litres of a mixtures that contains 50% milk i.e. 60/2 = 30 litres. So, total mixture = 540 + 60 = 600 litres Quantity of Milk = 540+ 50% of 60 = 540 + 30 = 570 litres same process is done 4 times, see the steps done in the solution.
