DIRECTIONS: In each question two equations numbered I and II are given. You have to solve both the equations and Give Answer If


I. 2x2 + 5x + 3 = 0

II. y2 + 9y + 14 = 0

Options:
A) x < y
B) x > y
C) x ≥ y
D) x ≤ y
E) x = y or relationship between x and y cannot be established.
Solution:

I. 2x2 + 5x + 3 = 0

⇒ 2x2 + 2x + 3x + 3 = 0

⇒ 2x(x + 1) +3 (x + 1) = 0

⇒ (x+ 1) (2x+ 3) = 0

⇒ x = -1 or - \(\frac{3}{2}\) 

II. y2 + 9y + 14 = 0

⇒ y2 + 2y + 7y + 14 = 0

⇒ y(y + 2) + 7 (y + 2) = 0

⇒ (y + 7) (y + 2) = 0

⇒ y = -2 or -7
