Here, "a" followed by "hard work" isn't correct? Had there not been "a", "working hard" would have been the correct answer. Because "I am used to working hard" and I am used to a hard work" both are correct. "Working hard" is showing the manner of the work(
verb) that the narrator usually takes, and "hard work" shows the type( adj) of the work that he takes. Please explain.

Question:
DIRECTIONS: A part of the sentence is in bold and underline. Below are given alternatives to the bold part at (A), (B), (C) and  (D) which may improve the sentence. Choose the correct alternative.

I am used to a hard work.

Options:
A) working hard
B) work hardly
C) hard working
D) No improvement
Solution:
V1 + ing is used after any form of be with adjective used to.

So 'a hard work' changes into 'working hard'.
