I said to her, "He is a good boy."
Here 'I' am talking to a girl about a boy.
So the correct answer should be "I told her that he is a good boy." Here we are still referring to the third person, a boy.
If you say "I told her that he was a good boy", this changes the context and now 'I' may be referring to the girl and telling her that she was good boy.

Question:
DIRECTIONS: In the following questions, sentence has been given in Direct/Indirect Speech. Out of the four alternatives suggested select the one which best expresses the same sentence in Indirect/Direct Speech.

B) I told her that he was a good boy.
C) I asked her that he is a good boy.
D) I asked her that he was a good boy.
