What is JEE Main Paper 2?

JEE Main is the Entrance Exam for the candidates who want to join Bachelor of Architecture courses at the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIT), National Institute of Technology (NIT), and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) across the country. From this year, JEE Main will be conducted in four sessions by the National Testing Agency. 

Based on the JEE Main score, only the top 2.5 lakh candidates will be shortlisted for JEE Advanced that offers admission to various UG Engineering programs by IITs in India. The counseling cum seat allotment for all the IITs, NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs will be organized and managed by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA).

The entire application process for JEE Main Paper 2 will be online mode. There are four stages involved in the application process i.e, Registration, Filling up of application form, Uploading of documents, Fee Payment, and printing of the application form.

Am I Eligible for JEE Main 2021 Paper 2?

General Eligibility:

  • Nationality: Indian nationals as well as international applicants are eligible to apply.
  • Age Criterion: There is no age limit prescribed to apply for JEE Main 2021.
  • Attempt Limit: There is no attempt limit.
  • JEE Advanced: JAB has decided to give one more chance to students who could not take JEE Advanced 2020 due to Covid-19. Such students will not have to re-qualify by writing JEE Main 2021 and will be allowed to directly appear in the JEE Advanced 2021 exam.


  • Candidates must have passed 12th level or its equivalent in 2019, 2020 from a recognized board or university.
  • Students who are appearing for their 12th level in the 2021 session are also eligible to apply. 
  • For B. Arch, students must pass the intermediate level with Physics, Mathematics & Chemistry as compulsory subjects.
  • For B. Plan, candidates should have passed 12th level with Mathematics as a compulsory subject.
  • Diploma: Those students who are holding diplomas are also eligible to apply. Such candidates are eligible for admissions in IIT’s only.

State Of Eligibility:

  • Students will be required to fill the state code of eligibility at the time of the registration process.
  • The state code of eligibility will not depend upon the native or residence place of the appearing candidate.
  • For the Indian nationals passing the 12th level from an institution located abroad, the state code of eligibility will be determined based on the permanent address of India provided on the passport.

JEE Main Paper 2 Exam Pattern 2021

The exam will be conducted in both Offline (Drawing Test) and Online (Mathematics and Aptitude). The time duration of the exam will be 3 Hours (180 Minutes).

JEE Main Paper 2 Syllabus 2021

Part I: Awareness of persons, places, Buildings, Visualizing three-dimensional objects from two-dimensional drawings, Materials, Analytical Reasoning Mental Ability (Visual, Numerical, and Verbal), Visualizing, etc.

Part II: Understanding and appreciation of scale and proportion of objects, Transformation of forms both 2 D and 3 D union, building forms and elements, color texture, harmony and contrast, subtraction, Creating two dimensional and three-dimensional compositions using given shapes and forms, rotation, etc.

Method of Determining Merit

  • Conversion of the raw score in Mathematics, Aptitude Test, Drawing Test, and Total into NTA Scores.
  • Overall merit shall be prepared by merging NTA Scores of all shifts of all days.

Methods of Resolving the Ties

Tie between candidates obtaining equal Total NTA scores in B.Arch will be resolved in the following descending order: 

  • NTA score in Mathematics
  • NTA score in Aptitude Test
  • NTA score in Drawing Test
  • Candidates having a lesser number of negative responses in the paper
  • Candidates older age

JEE Main Paper 2 Exam Day Instruction 2021

  • Candidates are not allowed to carry- Camera, Calculators, Mobile, Purse, Jewellery, Watch, etc to the exam center.
  • Any of the eatable items or juices are banned while going inside the exam hall.
  • Aspirants are allowed to take the blue/ black ballpoint to fill the circles in the answer sheet and geometry box for the Drawing section of the exam.
  • List of the documents (original and 2-3 xerox) required while going for the exam-

Is there negative marking for JEE paper 2?

There is the negative marking in the JEE Main Paper 2 Exam, candidates have to give the penalty of 0.25 (1/4) marks for each wrong answer marked. Also, students will score 1 mark for each correct answer. The deduction of the marks will be done from the overall score of- Aptitude, Mathematics, and Drawing.
