The JEE main counseling and seat allotment process depend on the All India Rank (AIR) obtained by the students in the entrance exam.
The students who want to participate in the JEE main counseling process should note that JEE main rank is only applicable for admission to NITs (National Institutes of Technology), IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology), and GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutes).

JEE MAIN Counselling 2024
The JEE Main counseling process comprises 3 processes i.e. JoSAA (joint seat allocation authority), CSAB NEUT (central seat allocation board) (north eastern states & union territories), and CSAB (central seat allocation board) SFTI (self-financed technical institutes).
- The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSSA) runs combined counseling and seat allotment procedure for all the IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology), IIITs (Indian Institutes of Information Technology), NITs (National Institutes of Technology), and other centrally funded technical institutes (CFTIs).
- JoSAA conducts for allotting seats to 110 participating institutes, which comprises IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other-GFTIs. JoSAA will announce Seat Allotment for rounds 1-6 in form of opening and closing ranks on the official portal.
- JoSSA is the combined counseling for both JEE Mains and JEE Advanced qualified candidates.
- CSAB SFTI is directed for admission in 18 Self Funded Technical Institutes.
- CSAB NEUT is directed for seats restrained in AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) approved institutes in India that are not enclosed under CSAB for the North Eastern States & Union Territories (NEUT).
- The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSSA) online registration and choice filling will begin very soon.

Documents Required for JEE Main Counselling 2024
- The document verification will be conducted for all the candidates who have been allotted seats.
- The candidate’s document verification will be conducted after each round. Any breach of the norms may lead to disqualification of the candidature.
- Candidates should carry both original and multiple attested copies with them at the time of the seat confirmation process.

JEE Main Counselling Procedure
- The candidates who are unable to perform JEE Advanced and have cleared JEE Main are eligible for seats in the colleges like NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.
- The candidates who have cleared JEE main 2022 must register themselves online and choose their preferred college and course.
- Allotment of seats will be done online, based on the candidate’s rank, category, availability of seats, and other factors.
- After the allotment of the seats, the candidates have to report to the allotted institute for document verification and fee payment.
Step 1: Online Registration
- Visit the official website of the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) or Self-Funded Technical Institutes or AICTE-approved Institutes respectively, as per the preferences of the candidates.
- Login using JEE Main 2021 Application Number, Password, and Security Pin.
- Click on ‘I Agree' after reading all the instructions carefully.
- Fill in the required details in the JoSAA counseling Form.
- Click on Submit after selecting the declaration
- Click on the ‘Confirm Registration’ button after verifying all the provided details.
Step 2: Online Choice Filling and Locking
- Choose your desired college and program and fill in their choices in the form given by the concerned authority.
- You have filled the choice according to the order given for the colleges.
- Candidates should choose to change/edit/delete their filled choices.
- After filling all the choices, candidates must lock and submit their choices.
- Lock the choice before the last date.
- Candidates can do choice locking after each round of JEE main 2022 counseling.
Step 3: Allotment of Seats
The concerned authority allots seats on the basis of the following factors: -
- Candidate’s Category (General, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, etc)
- Availability of the seats in the concerned authority
- Candidate’s All India Rank (AIR) in JEE main 2022 rank list.
- Candidate’s priority order of choices for academic programs and institutes.
Before making the final seat allocation, two rounds of mock allotment will be directed for the eligible candidates. Mock Rounds will help candidates in understanding the seat allotment procedure in detail and will also allow them to make changes if they wish to before the counseling round starts.
Step 4: Acceptance of Seats, Fee Payment, and Document Verification
- After allotment of the seats pays the seat acceptance fee through net banking or E Challan.
- Bring all the documents with you because they will be verified at the reporting center.
- After completion of the fee payment and document verification process, a provisional admission letter will be issued.
Step 5: Reporting to the Allotted College
- The last and final step of the JEE main 2022 Counselling process is reporting to the assigned institutes with original certificates and documents on the allotted date and time slot.
JEE Main Eligibility Criteria for Admission
- To take Admission in these institutes in B.Tech / B. Arch / B.E. / B. Planning courses, it will be based on the All India Rank with the requirement that the candidate should have obtained at least 75% in the 12th examination or should have been in the top 20 percentile in 12th.
- For SC / ST category candidates the requirement is 65% in 12th.
JEE Main Eligibility Criteria for Admission to B.Arch
- Requirement for architecture course (B.Arch) includes passing an examination at the end of the qualifying examination with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and 50% marks aggregate of the qualifying examination.
- For B. Planning, the candidate should have attained a minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in aggregate of the qualifying examination.
Subject combinations mandated in the qualifying examination for entry to B.E. / B.Tech, B.Arch, and B. Planning courses in IITs, NITs, and other CFTIs shall be under:

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria for Admission to Other Institutions
- Above mentioned criteria could be adopted by other technical institutions that are going to participate in counseling through CSAB / JoSAA.
- In the case that a state plans to admit students into engineering colleges affiliated with State Universities, the state may prepare a completely separate rank list based on guidelines set by them.
