JEE Main 2025 Eligibility Criteria for NRI, OCI, Foreign Nationals

NRI
  • Candidates who appear in or have graduated from the 10+2 system or equivalent exam can apply for the JEE Main examination.

  • Candidates must secure 75% marks in Class 12 or an equivalent exam. The requirement for SC and ST candidates is relaxed to 65% marks in Class 12.
OCI/PIO
  • OCI/PIO candidates don't come under the General Quota for admission. These candidates cannot avail of reservations even though their parents belong to the SC, ST, or OBC categories.
Foreign Nationals
  • For admission to IITs, Foreign national students have the advantage of being able to appear directly for the JEE Advanced exam instead of the JEE Main.

Qualifying Exams Considered for Internation Applicant Eligibility

Apart from the basic eligibility criteria, there are other qualifying exams considered for eligibility that are listed below:

  • Final exams of the 10+2 system should be conducted by a recognized central or state board like the Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi or Council for Indian School Certificate Exam, Delhi etc
  • The final exam of Joint Services Wing, a 2-year course of the National Defence Academy
  • Senior Secondary School Exam with 5 subjects conducted by NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling)
  • Public school/Board/University exam recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) either in India or foreign
  • Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Exam
  • 3-year duration Diploma recognized by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education
  • Advanced General Certificate of Education exam in either of the locations i.e. London, Cambridge, Sri Lanka
  • A High School Certificate Examination of the premiere institutions such as Cambridge University or the International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva
  • GCE (General Certificate Education) examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka/) at an advanced level

JEE Main 2025 Application Process

The JEE Main Paper 2 application process for Indian Nationals and International applicants is almost identical. There are a few exceptions in the application form for international applicants that are mentioned below: -

  • Foreign Nationals/PIO/OCI/Nepal/Bhutan applicants don't have to fill out the column "Select the State, School/College/NIOS Study centre" from where they have completed or appeared for Class 12 exams.
  • If the foreign national has passed Class 12 from outside India and doesn't belong to the Foreign/PIO/OCI/Nepal/Bhutan category, then the candidate has to fill out the "Select State" section as mentioned in the passport.
  • The Foreign/PIO/OCI/Nepal/Bhutan candidates must select "Other" against the field "Board Name."
  • The candidates must mark the Nationality column as OCL/PIO/Foreign or Other than PIO/OCI.
  •  Candidates who fall under the NRI category are required to enter their Aadhar numbers. If the candidate has not yet received their Aadhar number, they can enter Aadhar's enrollment ID.

Documents Required by International Applicants

International applicants must carry certain documents as proof of identification while applying for admission into IITs of India. The documents required are as follows:

  • Foreign Passport
  • Citizenship Certificate
  • Birth Certificate
  • Student Visa for Undergraduate course (or) No Objection certification issued by Ministry of Human Resource Development
  • Residential permit granted for studies in India or Student visa for the entire duration of the course

JEE Main Paper 2 Admit Card

After successfully registering for the exam, you will receive your JEE Main Paper 2 Admit Card on the prescribed date by the NTA. The admit card contains the examination details, exam centre, date, and time. 

The International applicants must enter their login credentials on the NTA portal to download the soft copy of the admit card. You can later take a printout of the admit card for future reference. 

The JEE Main exam will be held on the same day for Indian nationals and others belonging to NRI/OCI/PIO/Foreign nationals. Though international applicants take the exam in a foreign centre, they must report to the exam centre according to Indian Standard Time only.
