The Bihar Judiciary Syllabus 2026 includes 3 stages - Prelims, Main and Interview. Prelims has two objective papers worth 250 marks: General Studies (100) and Law (150). Mains has five compulsory papers and three optional law papers chosen from five. The interview carries 100 marks. The law subjects covers Evidence law, Procedure law, Constitutional Law, Hindu law and Muhammadan Law. Along with this law subjects the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) also tests General Knowledge, General Science, General English and General Hindi.

• Evidence and criminal procedure laws are now updated by BSA, BNSS and BNS.
• Prelims is a screening test. Its marks do not count in the final merit list.
• All five optional Mains subjects already appear in Prelims Paper II.

The Bihar Judiciary 2026 recruitment  for 173 Civil Judge (Junior Division) posts under BPSC Advertisement 12/2026 was released on 23 February 2026. The Bihar Judiciary syllabus and exam dates were published with the notification. The prelims scheduled for 3 June 2026, was postponed after a Supreme Court order. Bihar Judiciary Syllabus 2026 for Prelims 

The Bihar Judiciary syllabus for prelims has two objective papers worth 250 marks in total. General studies  (Paper I) covers current affairs, Indian and Bihar GK and elementary science, while Law (Paper II) covers six subjects of law. The BPSC Judiciary Prelims is only a screening test for the Bihar Civil Judge exam, so its marks are not counted in the final merit.

• Paper I, General Studies covers General Knowledge including current affairs and Elementary General Science.

Bihar Judiciary Syllabus 2026 for Mains

The Bihar Judiciary syllabus 2026 for Mains has eight descriptive papers: five compulsory and three optional. The Mains is of 1,050 marks and only candidates who clear the Prelims can appear for it. The marks scored in Mains and the interview are used to prepare the final merit list.

• All Mains papers are descriptive (written answers), and each paper is of 3 hours.
• The compulsory papers are General Knowledge including Current Affairs (150), Elementary General Science (100), General English (100), General Hindi (100) and Law of Evidence and Procedure (150), for 600 marks in total.
• Candidates can choose any 3 of 5 optional law papers, each worth 150 marks, for 450 marks in total.
• The optional subjects are Constitutional and Administrative Law of India, Hindu Law and Mohammedan Law, Transfer of Property with Equity, Trusts and Specific Relief, Law of Contracts and Torts, and Commercial Law.
• Candidates must score at least 30% in both General Hindi and General English.
• The Law of Evidence and Procedure paper covers the new criminal laws, BSA 2023, BNSS 2023 and BNS 2023, along with CPC 1908.

The Bihar Judiciary Syllabus 2026 keeps the same structure as earlier cycles: a 250-mark Prelims, eight Mains papers worth 1,050 marks, and a 100-mark interview. The law inside Paper 05 has changed, though. Evidence and criminal procedure are now evaluated under the BSA, BNSS and BNS.

• Rewrite old notes using the new section numbers, and pick your three optional papers before Prelims so your Paper II revision also counts towards Mains.
• Don’t treat General Hindi and General English as easy marks, because failing the minimum in either can end an otherwise strong attempt.
• The Prelims date is still awaited, so the candidates has enough time to start thier preparation.
