Currently, due to the ongoing situation across the country, the commission has postponed the mains session for Bihar Judicial Services.

General Hindi

There will be no level of this paper, which is meant for the candidates who have studied Hindi continuously from fourth grade in the secondary examination of the Bihar Vidyalaya Examination Committee. This test will examine 

  1. The general ability of the candidates to express their expressions clearly and accurately in simple Hindi
  2. The intuitive understanding of simple Hindi on familiar subjects.

General English

Questions will be set to test the understanding of and the power to write English. A passage or passages will usually be set for summary or precis. Questions will include letter writing on a given subject.

General Knowledge

Includes knowledge of current events - The paper will also include questions of Indian History, Culture, and Geography of nature, which candidates should be able to answer without special study.

Elementary General Science

Elementary General Science:- A paper of questions to test such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject.

Hindu Law and Muhammadan Law

  1. Hindu Law: Format of Sources - Various Branches (Schools), Marriage, Paternity, Adoption, Joint Family and Joint Property, Impartible Estate, Debt, Transfer, Division, Succession, Female Wealth, Widow's Estate, Will, Donation, Religious and endowment.
  2. Muhammadan Law - Sources of Muslim law, origin, and development of various branches, the extent of its application in India, Sharia Act (Sharia Act), 1937, the effect of converting to Islam, succession, and administration, Wills, Hewa, Hebabil Abaj, Waqf-maintenance, Legitimacy and Acknowledgement, Guardianship.

Law of Transfer of Property and Principles of Equity

Property transfer law - act no. 4 of 1882 (Transfer of Property Act); The principle of Equity which also includes the Law of Trust and Specific Relief.

  • History of Court of Equity, maxims, the origin of use in practice Development of Trust.
  • Definition of justice, formality in trust formation. Classification of justice, Express, Employed, Resulting. constructive, private, and public, Benami transactions.
  • Principle of Advancement. Khairati Trust. Rights and duties of Trustees (Trustees) compared to Devotar. Determination of Trust. Remedies for Breach of Trust.
  • Specific Relief Act, 1963 (No - 47, 1963), Specific Relief Act, 1963 (Ac147 of 1963) Indian Trust Act (2 of 1882).

Law of Contracts and Torts

  1. Act no Indian Contract Act 9 of 1872.
  2. Law of Torts - The nature of tort. General Principles of Liabilities. Party, Remedies, Nuisance, Injuries to Persons.

Death, Assault, False Imprisonment, Injuries to Domestic and Contractual Relations, Wrongful Dismissal, Defamation, Neglect Negligence). Responsibility for dangerous assets, The Rule in Rylands Vs. Fletcher Deceit, Conspiracy. Malicious Prosecution.

Bihar Judicial Service Exam Pattern 2021

Bihar judicial services is a three-tier recruitment process. The Bihar Judiciary Exam Pattern for all three stages is explained in brief below:  

  • The Prelims exam consists of two papers, the first paper will contain questions regarding General Studies and the second paper will contain questions regarding Law.
  • Both papers will be objective type, Multiple Choice Questions based exams.
  • The Mains paper consists of two parts: Compulsory Paper and Optional Paper.
  • There are five subjects included in the compulsory paper. There are five subjects included in the optional paper out of which you need to appear for any 3 subjects. 
  • Personality Test or Personal Interview will be 100 marks. You need to score a minimum of 35 marks to qualify for the post of Civil Judge.


What is the mode of preliminary judiciary exam?

Judiciary exam is a pen- paper mode of exam. It is an objective type consisting of two papers.

Is it important to score good in general Hindi and general English subjects?

General English And General Hindi are qualifying papers only. Candidates need to score a minimum of 30 marks in these subjects to qualify the main exam. Marks of these two subjects will not be considered in merit list calculations.

What is the age limit to appear in Bihar Judiciary PT exam?

Candidates in the age group of 22 to 35 can apply for the BPSC Judicial Service Exam. Age relaxation for OBC candidates is 3 years and 5 years for SC/ST candidates. Candidates with permanent domicile of Bihar and those who belong to reserved categories will be offered certain relaxation in the upper age limit.
