हरियाणा सरकार ने उपभोक्ताओं के लिए बिजली दरों में 37 पैसे प्रति यूनिट की कटौती की

• हरियाणा सरकार ने राज्य में उपभोक्ताओं के लिए बिजली दरों में 37 पैसे प्रति यूनिट की कटौती की घोषणा की है। इस आशय की घोषणा कल मुख्यमंत्री मनोहर लाल खट्टर ने की। इससे बिजली उपभोक्ताओं को करीब 100 करोड़ रुपये प्रतिमाह की राहत मिलेगी।
• बेहतर योजना और समय-निर्धारण के कारण बिजली वितरण कंपनियों ने 2020-21 के दौरान पिछले वर्ष की तुलना में पिछले वर्ष की तुलना में लगभग 46 पैसे प्रति यूनिट की औसत बिजली खरीद लागत में पर्याप्त कमी हासिल की है। यह राज्य बिजली नियामक द्वारा किए गए एफएसए (ईंधन अधिभार समायोजन) गणना में भी परिलक्षित हुआ है। इसलिए उपभोक्ताओं को विशेष रूप से कोविड के समय में लागत में कमी के इस लाभ को पारित करने के लिए, राज्य सरकार ने अब से उपभोक्ताओं से लिए जा रहे 37 पैसे एफएसए को माफ करने का निर्णय लिया है।

उत्तराखंड ने उत्तर भारत के पहले आर्किड संरक्षण केंद्र का उद्घाटन किया

• उत्तर भारत के पहले आर्किड संरक्षण केंद्र का उद्घाटन 30 जुलाई (शुक्रवार) को उत्तराखंड के चमोली जिले में, ऑर्किड के संरक्षण की दिशा में, पौधों की प्रजाति के रूप में किया गया था।
• ऑर्किड एक फूल वाले पौधे की प्रजाति है, जो पूरे विश्व में उष्ण कटिबंधीय क्षेत्रों में बहुतायत में पाई जाती है।
• इसके निशान हिमालय की तलहटी में, भारतीय राज्य उत्तराखंड में और पूर्वोत्तर के कुछ हिस्सों में पाए जा सकते हैं।
• देदीप्यमान आर्किड फूल का नाम ग्रीक शब्द (ऑर्किस) से लिया गया है क्योंकि ऑर्किस जीनस की कुछ प्रजातियों में पाए जाने वाले मूल कंदों की विशिष्ट विशेषताएं हैं।

मार्च में गांधीनगर में होगा डिफेंस एक्सपो

• गुजरात अपने पहले डिफेंस एक्सपो की मेजबानी करेगा, जो भारतीय हथियारों के बाजार में रुचि रखने वाले घरेलू और वैश्विक उद्योग के लिए रक्षा मंत्रालय का प्रमुख कार्यक्रम है। यह आयोजन अगले मार्च में गांधीनगर में 'भारत एक रक्षा विनिर्माण केंद्र के रूप में' विषय के साथ आयोजित किया जाएगा।
• शो के पिछले संस्करण नई दिल्ली, गोवा, चेन्नई और लखनऊ में आयोजित किए गए हैं, गुजरात को चुनने का फैसला सभी इच्छुक राज्यों के साथ बातचीत करने के बाद लिया गया, जिन्होंने रक्षा मंत्रालय को प्रस्तुतियां दीं। गोवा और तेलंगाना को भी शो के लिए शॉर्टलिस्ट किया गया था, जो वैश्विक हथियार कंपनियों, भारतीय निजी क्षेत्र के खिलाड़ियों और सशस्त्र बलों के अधिकारियों के हजारों प्रतिनिधियों को लाता है।

• श्रीलंका के तेज गेंदबाज इसुरु उदाना ने शनिवार को तत्काल प्रभाव से अंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट से संन्यास की घोषणा कर दी है।
• अपने 12 वर्ष के अंतरराष्ट्रीय करियर में श्रीलंका के लिए 21 वनडे और 35 टी20 अंतरराष्ट्रीय मैच खेलने वाले उदाना ने एक आधिकारिक बयान में कहा कि उनके लिए अगली पीढ़ी के खिलाड़ियों के लिए जगह बनाने का समय आ गया है।

• वंदना कटारिया ओलंपिक हैट्रिक बनाने वाली पहली भारतीय महिला हॉकी खिलाड़ी बन गईं, क्योंकि भारत ने शनिवार को टोक्यो के ओई हॉकी स्टेडियम में दक्षिण अफ्रीका को 4-3 से हराकर क्वार्टरफाइनल की उम्मीदों को जीवित रखा।

राजस्थान रॉयल्स के मालिकों ने बारबाडोस फ्रेंचाइजी का अधिग्रहण किया

• राजस्थान रॉयल्स के मालिकों ने सीपीएल टीम बारबाडोस ट्राइडेंट्स में बहुमत हिस्सेदारी हासिल कर ली है, जो कोलकाता नाइट राइडर्स और पंजाब किंग्स के बाद कैरेबियन लीग से जुड़ी तीसरी आईपीएल फ्रेंचाइजी बन गई है।
• राजस्थान रॉयल्स के मालिक रॉयल्स स्पोर्ट्स ग्रुप (ईएम स्पोर्टिंग होल्डिंग्स लिमिटेड) ने शुक्रवार को यह घोषणा की।
• दो बार के सीपीएल चैंपियन को बारबाडोस रॉयल्स के रूप में पुनः ब्रांडेड किया जाएगा।

• शताब्दी की धाविका मन कौर का दिल का दौरा पड़ने से निधन हो गया है, उनके बेटे गुरदेव सिंह ने शनिवार को इसकी जानकारी दी।
• मन कौर 105 वर्ष की थी और उनके दो बेटे और एक बेटी है।
• 1 मार्च, 1916 को जन्मी कौर को "चंडीगढ़ की मिरेकल मॉम" के रूप में जाना जाता था।
• उन्होंने 2017 में ऑकलैंड में वर्ल्ड मास्टर्स गेम्स में 100 मीटर स्प्रिंट जीतने के बाद प्रसिद्धि हासिल की।

मुस्लिम महिला अधिकार दिवस 2021:

• मुस्लिम महिला अधिकार दिवस 1 अगस्त को मनाया जाता है। यह 2019 में इसी दिन था, संसद में ट्रिपल तालक बिल का पारित होना एक महान मील का पत्थर साबित हुआ। यह वर्ष उस ऐतिहासिक विधेयक की दूसरी वर्षगांठ का प्रतीक है जिसे आधिकारिक तौर पर मुस्लिम महिला अधिनियम (विवाह पर अधिकारों का संरक्षण) के रूप में जाना जाता है, जिसे राज्यसभा में पारित किया गया।
• कानून ने 'तीन तलाक' को एक आपराधिक अपराध बना दिया। इसे एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम के रूप में देखा गया क्योंकि इसने लैंगिक असमानता के खिलाफ मुस्लिम महिलाओं की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित की, और तात्कालिक 'तलाक' की प्रथा को कानूनी रूप से अलविदा कहकर सशक्तिकरण सुनिश्चित किया। इसलिए इस दिन को उपयुक्त रूप से मुस्लिम महिला अधिकार दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है। कानून महिलाओं की आत्मनिर्भरता, आत्म-सम्मान को बढ़ावा देने और आत्म-सम्मान को बढ़ावा देने के लिए है क्योंकि यह मुस्लिम महिलाओं के मौलिक और लोकतांत्रिक अधिकारों को मजबूत करता है।

विश्व स्तनपान सप्ताह 2021: 01 - 07 अगस्त

• विश्व स्तनपान सप्ताह (WBW) प्रतिवर्ष अगस्त के पहले सप्ताह में, माताओं और शिशुओं के लिए स्तनपान के महत्व पर जागरूकता बढ़ाने के लिए, 1 से 7 अगस्त के बीच मनाया जाता है। विश्व स्तनपान सप्ताह 2021 का विषय "स्तनपान की रक्षा करें: एक साझा जिम्मेदारी" है। वार्षिक सप्ताह का आयोजन 1991 से WABA, WHO और UNICEF द्वारा किया जाता है।
• स्तनपान हर बच्चे को जीवन में सर्वोत्तम संभव शुरुआत प्रदान करता है। यह बच्चों और माताओं दोनों को स्वास्थ्य, पोषण और भावनात्मक लाभ प्रदान करता है। और यह एक स्थायी खाद्य प्रणाली का हिस्सा है। लेकिन जबकि स्तनपान एक प्राकृतिक प्रक्रिया है, यह हमेशा आसान नहीं होता है। माताओं को समर्थन की जरूरत है - दोनों को शुरू करने और स्तनपान को बनाए रखने के लिए।

पुरस्‍कार एवं सम्‍मान

सायरस पूनावाला ने जीता लोकमान्य तिलक राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार

• पुणे स्थित वैक्सीन निर्माता सीरम इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ इंडिया (एसआईआई) के अध्यक्ष डॉ साइरस पूनावाला को 2021 के लिए प्रतिष्ठित लोकमान्य तिलक राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार के लिए चुना गया है। उन्हें C-19महामारी के दौरान उनके काम के लिए नामित किया गया है। वह 13 अगस्त को पुरस्कार ग्रहण करेंगे। इस पुरस्कार में एक लाख रुपये का नकद पुरस्कार और एक स्मृति चिन्ह शामिल है।
• लोकमान्य तिलक राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार लोकमान्य तिलक ट्रस्ट द्वारा 1983 से लोकमान्य तिलक की पुण्यतिथि 1 अगस्त को प्रतिवर्ष दिया जाता है। हालांकि इस वर्ष C-19 वायरस की स्थिति को देखते हुए तारीख में बदलाव किया गया है।

Haryana govt lowers power tariff by 37 paise per unit for consumers

• Haryana government has announced reduction in power tariff by 37 paise per unit for consumers in the state. The announcement in this effect was made by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar yesterday. With this, electricity consumers will get relief of about 100 crore rupees per month.
• An official spokesman said that the power distribution companies have achieved a substantial reduction in the average power purchase cost of about 46 paise per unit during 2020-21 over the previous year due to better planning and scheduling. This has also been reflected in FSA (fuel surcharge adjustment) calculations done by the state power regulator. Hence to pass this benefit in reduction of cost to the consumers particularly during the Covid time, the state government has decided to waive the 37 paise FSA being charged from the consumers henceforth.

Uttarakhand inaugurates North India’s first Orchid Conservation center

• North India’s first orchid conservation center was inaugurated in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, in a milestone step towards the conservation of Orchids, an exquisite, yet threatened plant species, on 30th July (Friday).
• Orchids are a flowering plant species, found in abundance in tropical regions, all over the world.
• Its traces can be found in the Himalayan foothills, in the Indian state of Uttrakhand, and in parts of the northeast.
• The resplendent Orchid flower derives its name from the Greek word (orchis) because of the characteristic features of the root tubers found in some species of the genus Orchis.

Defence Expo to be held in Gandhinagar in March

• Gujarat will host its first Defence Expo, the flagship event of the Ministry of Defence for the domestic and global industry interested in the Indian arms market. The event will be held in Gandhinagar next March, with the theme of ‘India as a defence manufacturing hub’.
• Past editions of the show have been held at New Delhi, Goa, Chennai and Lucknow. The decision to choose Gujarat was taken after interacting with all interested states that gave presentations to the defence ministry. Goa and Telangana had also been shortlisted for the show that brings thousands of representatives from global arms companies, Indian private sector players and officials from the armed forces.

• Sri Lanka fast bowler Isuru Udana has announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect on Saturday.
• Udana, who played 21 ODIs and 35 T20Is for Sri Lanka in his 12-year international career, in an official statement said that the time has come for him to make way for next generation of players.
• ‘’It is with immense pride and passion, and unfathomable commitment that I have represented and served my country.

Vandana becomes first Indian woman to score Olympic hat-trick in hockey

• Vandana scored in the first, second and fourth quarters of India's last match in Pool A of the Tokyo Olympics to etch her names on the history books and become the first Indian woman to score an Olympic hat-trick.
• Vandana Katariya became the first Indian woman hockey player to score an Olympic hat-trick as India beat South Africa by 4-3 at the Oi Hockey Stadium in Tokyo on Saturday to keep their quarterfinal hopes alive. Vandana scored in the first, second and fourth quarters of India's last match in Pool A of the Tokyo Olympics to etch her names in the history books.

Rajasthan Royals owners acquire Barbados franchise

• The owners of Rajasthan Royals have acquired a majority stake in CPL team Barbados Tridents, becoming the third IPL franchise to be associated with the Caribbean league after Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings.
• Royals Sports Group (EM Sporting Holdings Ltd), the owners of the Rajasthan Royals, made the announcement on Friday.
• The two-time CPL champions will be rebranded as the Barbados Royals.
• Royals Sports Group Chairperson, and the Lead Owner of Rajasthan Royals, Manoj Badale, said: “We are delighted to have signed this deal with Manish Patel, to acquire a majority stake in the Barbados CPL franchise.”

OBITUARY

Centenarian sprinter Man Kaur dies of heart attack

• Centenarian sprinter Man Kaur has died of a heart attack, her son Gurdev Singh said on Saturday.
• Man was 105 and is survived by two sons and a daughter.
• Born on March 1, 1916, Kaur was known as the "Miracle Mom from Chandigarh".
• She shot to fame after winning the 100 metre sprint at the World Masters Games in Auckland in 2017.

Muslim Women Rights Day 2021:

• Muslim Women Rights Day is observed on August 1. It was on this very day in 2019, the passage of the triple talaq bill in Parliament.This year marks the second anniversary of that historical bill which is officially known as the Muslim Women Act (Protection of Rights on Marriage) passed in the Rajya Sabha.
• The law made the ‘triple talaq’ a criminal offence. It was seen as a crucial step as it ensured Muslim women protection against gender inequality, and empowerment by lawfully bidding adieu to the practice of instantaneous ‘talaq’. Hence the day is aptly held as Muslim Women Rights Day. The law is meant to promote women’s self-reliance, self-respect, and boost self-esteem as it strengthens the fundamental and democratic rights of Muslim women.

World Breastfeeding Week 2021: 01 – 07 August

• The World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is marked every year in the first week of August, between 1 to 7 August, to raise awareness on the importance of breastfeeding for mothers and infants. The theme of the World Breastfeeding Week 2021 is “Protect Breastfeeding: A Shared Responsibility”. The annual week is organized by WABA, WHO and UNICEF since 1991.
• Breastfeeding provides every child with the best possible start in life. It delivers health, nutritional and emotional benefits to both children and mothers. And it forms part of a sustainable food system. But while breastfeeding is a natural process, it is not always easy. Mothers need support – both to get started and to sustain breastfeeding.

Cyrus Poonawalla wins Lokmanya Tilak National Award

• Dr Cyrus Poonawalla, Chairman of the Pune-based vaccine maker Serum Institute of India (SII), has been selected for the prestigious Lokmanya Tilak National Award for 2021. He has been named for his work during the COVID-19 pandemic, by manufacturing the Covishield vaccine. He will receive the award on August 13. The award comprises a cash prize of Rs one lakh and a memento.
• The Lokmanya Tilak national award is given annually since 1983 on August 1, the death anniversary of Lokmanya Tilak, by the Lokmanya Tilak Trust. However this year the date has been changed due to the coronavirus situation.
