चीन का पहला मार्स रोवर 'झुरोंग' मंगल ग्रह पर सफलतापूर्वक उतरा

• चीन ने 15 मई, 2021 को लाल ग्रह पर अपना पहला मार्स रोवर 'झू रोंग' उतारने की उपलब्धि सफलतापूर्वक हासिल की, चीन ऐसा करने वाला दूसरा देश बन गया है। अभी तक सिर्फ अमेरिका ही मंगल पर अपने रोवर को सफलतापूर्वक उतार सका है। अन्य सभी देश जिन्होंने कोशिश की है या तो दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गए हैं या सतह पर पहुंचने के तुरंत बाद संपर्क खो चुके हैं।
• वाहन ने नीचे उतरने के लिए एक सुरक्षात्मक कैप्सूल, एक पैराशूट और एक रॉकेट प्लेटफॉर्म के संयोजन का उपयोग किया। झूरोंग, जिसका अर्थ है अग्नि का देवता (God of Fire), को तियानवेन -1 ऑर्बिटर पर मंगल ग्रह पर ले जाया गया था। चीन का मार्स रोवर, जिसे चीनी पौराणिक कथाओं में एक प्राचीन अग्नि देवता के नाम पर झूरोंग कहा जाता है, एक फोल्डेबल रैंप को चलाकर लैंडर से अलग हो जाएगा। एक बार यह तैनात हो जाने के बाद, रोवर के कम से कम 90 मार्स डे बिताने की उम्मीद है।

भारत के कई राज्यों में आया चक्रवात Taukate

• चक्रवाती तूफ़ान Taukate ने रविवार की तड़के अपनी अधिकतम तीव्रता प्राप्त कर ली और अब यह एक बहुत गंभीर चक्रवाती तूफान (118 से 166 किमी / घंटा की हवा की गति) बन गया है।
• भारतीय मौसम विज्ञान विभाग द्वारा जारी ताजा चक्रवात अलर्ट में कहा गया है कि यह तूफान गुजरात तट, महाराष्ट्र, गोवा के करीब पहुंचेगा। तटीय कर्नाटक और केरल में सोमवार तक हल्की से मध्यम तीव्रता की बारिश जारी रहने की संभावना है।

NAIMISHA 2021, 17 मई 2021 से शुरू होगा

• नेशनल गैलरी ऑफ मॉडर्न आर्ट सोमवार से एक महीने तक चलने वाली ऑनलाइन समर वर्कशॉप- NAIMISHA 2021 शुरू करेगी।
• संस्कृति मंत्रालय ने कहा है कि यह अनूठा कला उत्सव कलाओं को बनाने और उनसे जुड़ने के लिए एक मंच प्रदान करेगा।
• कार्यक्रम की वर्तमान अवधि 17 मई से 13 जून तक है।
• ऑनलाइन इंटरैक्टिव कार्यक्रमों को डिजाइन करने और वितरित करने के पीछे का विचार बच्चों और वास्तव में सभी इच्छुक वयस्कों को एक रचनात्मक आउटलेट प्रदान करना है।

रेलवे ने 6000 स्टेशनों पर वाई-फाई शुरू किया

• रेलवे ने पांच वर्ष में छह हजार रेलवे स्टेशनों पर वाई-फाई की शुरुआत की है।
• रेल मंत्रालय ने कहा, भारतीय रेल डिजिटल इंडिया पहल में योगदान देना और देश के विभिन्न हिस्सों को हाई स्पीड वाई-फाई सुविधा से जोड़ना जारी रखे हुए है।
• यह ग्रामीण और शहरी नागरिकों के बीच डिजिटल अंतर को पाटेगा जिससे ग्रामीण गांवों में डिजिटल फुटप्रिंट बढ़ेगा और उपयोगकर्ता अनुभव भी बढ़ेगा।
• झारखंड के हजारीबाग रेलवे स्टेशन पर शनिवार को वाई-फाई चालू होने के साथ, भारतीय रेलवे ने छह हजार रेलवे स्टेशनों पर वाई-फाई चालू कर दिया।
• मंत्रालय ने कहा, रेलवे ने जनवरी 2016 में मुंबई के पहले रेलवे स्टेशन पर वाई-फाई सुविधा प्रदान करके अपनी यात्रा शुरू की है।

NBA ने सामाजिक न्याय पुरस्कार शुरू किया

• एनबीए ने लॉस एंजिल्स लेकर्स आइकन और सर्वकालिक अग्रणी स्कोरर के नाम पर करीम अब्दुल-जब्बार सामाजिक न्याय चैंपियन पुरस्कार के निर्माण की घोषणा की है।
• नया पुरस्कार एनबीए के एक खिलाड़ी को सामाजिक न्याय और समानता, सम्मान और समावेश के मूल्यों के निरंतर प्रयास के लिए मान्यता देगा।

उत्तर कोरिया 2022 फीफा विश्व कप से पीछे हटा

• एशियाई फुटबॉल परिसंघ ने 2022 फीफा विश्व कप और 2023 एएफसी एशियाई कप के लिए एशियाई क्वालीफायर से उत्तर कोरिया के वापस हटने की पुष्टि की।
• एक संक्षिप्त बयान में, एएफसी ने कहा कि मामला फीफा प्रतियोगिताओं के लिए आयोजन समिति को भेजा जाएगा, और एशियाई क्वालीफाइंग ग्रुप एच, जिसमें उत्तर कोरिया भी शामिल है, की स्थिति के बारे में और विवरण की घोषणा उचित समय पर की जाएगी।

• बढ़ते उच्च रक्तचाप (बीपी) के बारे में जन जागरूकता को बढ़ावा देने और सभी देशों के नागरिकों को इस मूक हत्यारे को रोकने और नियंत्रित करने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करने के लिए दुनिया भर में 17 मई को विश्व उच्च रक्तचाप दिवस (WHD) मनाया जाता है। यह दिवस पहली बार मई 2005 में आयोजित किया गया था।
• विश्व उच्च रक्तचाप दिवस (WHD) विश्व उच्च रक्तचाप लीग (WHL) की एक पहल है, जो अंतर्राष्ट्रीय उच्च रक्तचाप सोसायटी का एक संबद्ध खंड है। विश्व उच्च रक्तचाप दिवस 2021 का विषय है Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer (अपने रक्तचाप को सटीक रूप से मापें, इसे नियंत्रित करें, लंबे समय तक जीवित रहें)।

विश्व दूरसंचार और सूचना समाज दिवस 2021: 17 मई

• अंतर्राष्ट्रीय दूरसंचार संघ (ITU) की स्थापना के उपलक्ष्य में 1969 से प्रतिवर्ष 17 मई को विश्व दूरसंचार और सूचना समाज दिवस (WTISD) मनाया जाता है। 2021 का विषय "चुनौतीपूर्ण समय में डिजिटल परिवर्तन को तेज करना (Accelerating Digital Transformation in challenging times)" है।
• ITU की स्थापना 17 मई 1865 को हुई थी, जब पेरिस में पहले अंतर्राष्ट्रीय टेलीग्राफ कन्वेंशन (International Telegraph Convention) पर हस्ताक्षर किए गए थे। इस दिन का मुख्य उद्देश्य इंटरनेट तथा समाज और अर्थव्यवस्था में नई तकनीकों के साथ-साथ डिजिटल विभाजन को पाटने के तरीकों के बारे में वैश्विक जागरूकता बढ़ाना है।

राष्ट्रीय डेंगू दिवस 2021: 16 मई

• भारत में प्रतिवर्ष 16 मई को राष्ट्रीय डेंगू दिवस मनाया जाता है। यह दिन स्वस्थ एवं परिवार कल्याण मंत्रालय द्वारा डेंगू और इसके निवारक उपायों के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ाने और संचरण के मौसम से पहले वेक्टर जनित रोग के नियंत्रण के लिए तैयारियों के लिए एक पहल है।
• डेंगू, मादा मच्छर (एडीज इजिप्टी) के काटने से फैलता है।
• डेंगू एक मच्छर जनित बीमारी है, जो चार अलग-अलग सीरोटाइप - DEN-1, DEN-2, DEN-3 और DEN-4 के डेंगू वायरस के कारण होती है।
• डेंगू, जो मच्छरों की एडीज एल्बोपिक्टस प्रजाति द्वारा फैलता है, फ्लू जैसी बीमारी जैसे मांसपेशियों में गंभीर दर्द और मतली का कारण बन सकता है और सही तरीके से ठीक न होने पर मृत्यु का कारण बन सकता है।

• मिस मेक्सिको एंड्रिया मेजा को 69वीं मिस यूनिवर्स 2020 का ताज पहनाया गया है। वहीं दूसरी ओर, मिस इंडिया की एडलाइन क्वाड्रोस कैसलीनो ने टॉप 4 में जगह बनाई है। ब्राजील की जूलिया गामा फर्स्ट रनर-अप हैं, पेरू की जेनिक मैकेटा सेकेंड रनर-अप हैं, जबकि भारत की एडलाइन कैसलीनो और डोमिनिकन रिपब्लिक की किम्बर्ली पेरेज़ क्रमशः थर्ड रनर-अप और फोर्थ रनर-अप हैं।
• इस वर्ष, प्रतियोगिता फ्लोरिडा के सेमिनोल हार्ड रॉक होटल और कैसीनो हॉलीवुड, मियामी में आयोजित की जा रही है। दक्षिण अफ्रीका की ज़ोज़िबिनी टुंज़ी ने इस आयोजन में अपने उत्तराधिकारी का ताज पहनाया।

INTERNATIONAL

China’s First Mars Rover ‘ZhuRong’ Successfully Lands on Mars

• China successfully achieved the feat of landing its first Mars Rover ‘Zhu Rong’ on the red planet, on May 15, 2021, becoming the only second nation to do so. Till date, only the United States has successfully landed its rover on Mars. All other countries that have tried have either crashed or lost contact soon after reaching the surface.
• The vehicle used a combination of a protective capsule, a parachute & a rocket platform to make the descent. Zhurong, which means God of Fire, was carried to Mars on the Tianwen-1 orbiter. China’s Mars rover, called Zhurong after an ancient fire god in Chinese mythology, will part ways with the lander by driving down a foldable ramp. Once it has deployed, the rover is expected to spend at least 90 Mars days.

Cyclone Taukate hits many states of India

• Cyclone Taukate has obtained its maximum intensity in the wee hours of Sunday and has now become a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (wind speed of 118 to 166 km/hr).
• The latest cyclone alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that this storm would reach close to Gujarat coast, Maharashtra, Goa. Light to moderate intensity rainfall is expected to continue over coastal Karnataka and Kerala till Monday.

NAIMISHA 2021 to start from 17th May 2021

• National Gallery of Modern Art will start a month long online summer workshop- NAIMISHA 2021 from Monday.
• Culture Ministry has said that this unique art fiesta will provide a platform to create and engage with the arts.
• The current duration of the programme is 17th May to 13th June.
• The idea behind designing and delivering online interactive programmes is to provide a creative outlet to children, and indeed all interested adults.

Railways commissions Wi-Fi at 6000 stations

• Railways has commissioned Wi-Fi at six thousand Railway stations in five years.
• Railway Ministry said, Indian Railways continues to contribute to Digital India initiative and connect different parts of the country with high speed Wi-Fi facility.
• This will bridge the digital divide between the rural and urban citizens thereby increasing the digital footprint in the rural villages and also enhance the user experience.
• With the commissioning of Wi-Fi at Hazaribagh Railway station in Jharkhand on Saturday, Indian Railways commissioned Wi-Fi at six thousand Railway stations.
• The Ministry said, Railways have started its Journey by providing Wi-Fi facility at 1st Railway station Mumbai in January 2016.

NBA creates social Justice Award

• The NBA has announced the creation of the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion Award, named after the Los Angeles Lakers icon and all-time leading scorer.
• The new award will recognize one NBA player for his ongoing pursuit of social justice and values of equality, respect and inclusion.

North Korea withdraws from 2022 FIFA World cup

• The Asian Football Confederation yesterday confirmed the withdrawal of North Korea from the Asian qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.
• In a brief statement, the AFC said the matter will be referred to the organising committee for FIFA competitions, and that further details on the standings of the Asian qualifying Group H, which includes North Korea, will be announced in due course.
• Prior to their withdrawal, North Korea ranked fourth in Group H after five matches, just one point behind group leaders Turkmenistan.
• The group also includes South Korea, Lebanon and Sri Lanka
• The group’s remaining matches will be played in South Korea in a centralised manner in June.

World Hypertension Day 2021: 17 May

• World Hypertension Day (WHD) is celebrated on 17 May worldwide to promote public awareness of increasing high blood pressure (BP) and to encourage citizens of all countries to prevent and control this silent killer. The day was held for the first time in May 2005.
• World Hypertension Day (WHD) is an initiative of the World Hypertension League (WHL), an affiliated section of the International Society of Hypertension. The theme for World Hypertension Day 2021 is Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer.

World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2021: 17 May

• The World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) is observed every year on 17 May since 1969, to commemorate the founding of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The theme of 2021 is “Accelerating Digital Transformation in challenging times”.
• The ITU was founded on 17 May 1865, when the first International Telegraph Convention was signed in Paris. The main objective of the day is to raise global awareness of the changes brought about by the Internet and new technologies in societies and economies, as well as of ways to bridge the digital divide.

National Dengue Day 2021: 16 May

• In India, the National Dengue Day is observed every year on 16 May. The day is an initiative by the Ministry of Healthy and Family Welfare, to raise awareness about dengue and its preventive measures, and preparedness for control of the vector-borne disease before the transmission season begins.
• Dengue is spread through the bite of the female mosquito (Aedes aegypti).
• Dengue is a mosquito-borne disease that is caused by the dengue virus of four distinct serotypes — DEN-1, DEN-2, DEN-3 and DEN-4.
• Dengue, which is spread by the Aedes albopictus species of mosquitos, can lead to flu-like illness such as severe muscle pain and nausea and can lead to death if not cured properly.

Andrea Meza crowned 69th Miss Universe 2020

• Miss Mexico Andrea Meza has been crowned as the 69th Miss Universe 2020. On the other hand, Miss India’s Adline Quadros Castelino made it to the Top 4. Brazil’s Julia Gama is the first runner-up, Peru’s Janick Maceta is the second runner-up while India’s Adline Castelino and Dominican Republic’s Kimberly Perez are third runner-up and fourth runner-up, respectively.
• This year, the pageant is being held in Miami, Florida’s Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Hollywood. Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa crowns her successor in the event.
