देहरादून में किया गया नौवें सतत पर्वत विकास शिखर सम्मेलन का आयोजन

• उत्तराखंड के देहरादून में सतत पर्वत विकास शिखर सम्मेलन (Sustainable Mountain Development Summit) का 9 वां संस्करण आयोजित किया गया। चार दिनों तक चले इस शिखर सम्मेलन का आयोजन इंडियन माउंटेन इनिशिएटिव (IMI) द्वारा किया गया, और इसकी मेजबानी सतत विकास मंच उत्तरांचल (Sustainable Development Forum Uttaranchal), देहरादून द्वारा की गई थी।
• वर्ष 2020 SMDS का विषय ‘Emerging Pathways for Building a Resilient Post C-19 Mountain Economy, Adaptation, Innovation and Acceleration’ था.
• शिखर सम्मेलन में प्रवासन, जल सुरक्षा, जलवायु लचीलापन और कृषि क्षेत्र के लिए अभिनव समाधान और भारतीय हिमालय में आपदा जोखिम में कमी जैसे मुद्दों पर विचार-विमर्श किया गया।
• शिखर सम्मेलन C-19 परिदृश्य और जलवायु परिवर्तन के संदर्भ में एक लचीला और स्थायी पर्वत अर्थव्यवस्था की ओर जाने वाले मार्गों के निर्माण पर केन्द्रित था।

 ओला तमिलनाडु में स्थापित करेगा दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा स्कूटर कारखाना

• सॉफ्टबैंक समर्थित मोबिलिटी प्लेटफ़ॉर्म, ओला ने तमिलनाडु में 2,400 करोड़ रुपये के निवेश से अपना पहला कारखाना स्थापित करने के लिए तमिलनाडु सरकार के साथ एक समझौता ज्ञापन (MoU) पर हस्ताक्षर किए हैं। एक इसके पूरा हो जाने पर यह तमिलनाडु में ओला फैक्ट्री दुनिया में सबसे बड़ी स्कूटर विनिर्माण फैक्ट्री होगी। शुरुआत में, कारखाने की वार्षिक विनिर्माण क्षमता 2 मिलियन यूनिट होगी।
• यह कारखाना प्रधान मंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के आत्मनिर्भर भारत के दृष्टिकोण के अनुरूप है और भारत को दो-पहिया इलेक्ट्रिक वाहनों के लिए एक विनिर्माण केंद्र बना देगा। यह नया कारखाना इलेक्ट्रिक वाहनों के आयात पर भारत की निर्भरता को कम करेगा, स्थानीय विनिर्माण को बढ़ावा देगा, रोजगार पैदा करने के साथ-साथ देश में तकनीकी विशेषज्ञता में सुधार भी करेगा।

ओडिशा करेगा वर्ष 2023 के FIH मेन्स हॉकी विश्व कप की मेजबानी

• अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हॉकी महासंघ (International Hockey Federation-FIH) ने वर्ष 2023 FIH पुरुष हॉकी विश्व कप की मेजबानी लगातार दूसरी बार ओडिशा को सौंपे जाने की घोषणा की है। यह टूर्नामेंट दो स्थानों, भुवनेश्वर और राउरकेला में आयोजित किया जाएगा। साल 2018 का पुरुषों का हॉकी विश्व कप भी ओडिशा द्वारा आयोजित किया गया था।
• वर्ष 2023 टूर्नामेंट पुरुषों के FIH हॉकी विश्व कप का 15 वां संस्करण होगा। यह भुवनेश्वर के कलिंगा स्टेडियम और राउरकेला के बीजू पटनायक हॉकी स्टेडियम में आयोजित किया जाएगा। FIH हॉकी विश्व कप प्रत्येक चार साल के बाद आयोजित किया जाता है।

इसरो लॉन्च करेगा कम्युनिकेशन सॅटॅलाइट CMS-01

• भारतीय अंतरिक्ष अनुसंधान संगठन (इसरो) 17 दिसंबर को अपने ध्रुवीय उपग्रह प्रक्षेपण वाहन (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) रॉकेट के XL वेरिएंट को PSLV-C50 के रूप में इस्तेमाल करते हुए, संचार उपग्रह CMS-01 (पहले का नाम GSAT-12R) को लॉन्च करेगा। CMS-01, GSAT-12 का नया वर्जन होगा जिसका वजन 1,410 किलोग्राम था और जिसे 11 जुलाई, 2011 को आठ साल की मिशन लाइफ के साथ लॉन्च किया गया था।
• CMS-01 फ्रीक्वेंसी स्पेक्ट्रम के विस्तारित-सी बैंड में सेवाएं प्रदान करने के लिए परिकल्पित संचार उपग्रह है, जिसमें भारतीय मुख्य भूमि, अंडमान और निकोबार और लक्षद्वीप द्वीप समूह शामिल होंगे। यह भारत का 42 वां संचार उपग्रह, इसकी सात वर्ष की मिशन आयु होगी।
• 44-मीटर हाई चार स्टेज/इंजन PSLV-C50 'XL' कॉन्फ़िगरेशन में PSLV की 22 वीं उड़ान है (पहले चरण में छह स्ट्रैप-ऑन मोटर्स के साथ)।
• पीएसएलवी की सामान्य कॉन्फ़िगरेशन में एक चार चरणीय / इंजन योग्य रॉकेट है जो वैकल्पिक रूप से ठोस और तरल ईंधन से संचालित होता है, जिसमें शुरुआती उड़ान क्षणों के दौरान उच्च गति देने के लिए पहले चरण में छः बूस्टर मोटरों का इतेमाल किया जाता है।
• भारतीय अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी के पास दो और चार स्ट्रैप-ऑन मोटर्स के साथ PSLV वेरिएंट हैं, बड़ा PSLV-XL और कोर अकेला वेरिएंट बिना किसी स्ट्रैप-ऑन मोटर्स। किसी मिशन के लिए इस्तेमाल किए जाने वाले रॉकेट का चुनाव उपग्रह के वजन और कक्षा पर निर्भर करता है जहाँ उपग्रह की परिक्रमा करनी होती है।

 सम्मेलन एवं समझौते

भारत और ऑस्ट्रिया ने प्रौद्योगिकी सहयोग के लिए समझौता ज्ञापन पर किए हस्ताक्षर

• सड़क परिवहन एवं राजमार्ग मंत्रालय ने ऑस्ट्रीया गणराज्य के जलवायु कार्यान्वयन (Federal Ministry of Climate Action), पर्यावरण, ऊर्जा और नवाचार एवं तकनीकि मंत्रालय के साथ सड़क बुनियादी ढांचा क्षेत्र में तकनीकि सहयोग के लिए समझौता ज्ञापन पर हस्ताक्षर किए है। यह समझौता दोनों देशों के बीच लंबित द्विपक्षीय सम्बन्धों को भी मजबूत करने और पारस्परिक व्यापार को बढ़ावा देने और क्षेत्रीय एकीकरण के क्षेत्र में भी मददगार होगा।
• एमओयू का उद्देश्य दोनों देशों में सड़क परिवहन, सड़क/राजमार्ग बुनियादी विकास, प्रबंधन एवं प्रशासन, सड़क सुरक्षा और कुशल परिवहन तंत्र के क्षेत्र में द्विपक्षीय सहयोग और साझेदारी को बढ़ावा देना है।
• सड़क परिवहन क्षेत्र में भारत-ऑस्ट्रीया के बीच द्विपक्षीय साझेदारी, सड़क सुरक्षा में सुधार और इस क्षेत्र में निवेश आकर्षित करने समेत विभिन्न आयामों से दोनों देशों के लिए लाभकारी होने वाला है, इस प्रकार इस समझौता ज्ञापन के माध्यम से पहले से ही बेहतर द्विपक्षीय सम्बन्धों को और बेहतर करने के लिए परिवहन क्षेत्र में किया गया यह समझौता कारगर होगा।

भारत और उज्बेकिस्तान ने रणनीतिक साझेदारी को मजबूत करने के लिए 9 समझौतों पर किए हस्ताक्षर

• प्रधान मंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी और उज्बेकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति शवकत मिर्ज़ियोएव (Shavkat Mirziyoyev) ने दोनों देशों के बीच रणनीतिक साझेदारी को मजबूत बनाने के लिए वर्चुली आयोजित शिखर सम्मेलन की सह-अध्यक्षता की। भारत सरकार ने उज्बेकिस्तान में सड़क निर्माण, सीवरेज ट्रीटमेंट और सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी के क्षेत्र में चार विकासात्मक परियोजनाओं के लिए 448 मिलियन अमेरिकी डॉलर की लाइन ऑफ क्रेडिट को भी मंजूरी दी।
• भारत और उज्बेकिस्तान ने विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में नौ करार और समझौता ज्ञापनों (MoUs) पर हस्ताक्षर किए:

 पुरस्कार एवं सम्मान

यूनेस्को ने "Creative Economy" पर शुरू किया बंगबंधु पुरस्कार

• यूनेस्को ने बांग्लादेश के प्रस्ताव को अपनाते बंगबंधु शेख मुजीबुर रहमान के नाम पर एक अंतर्राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार शुरू करने की घोषणा की है। संयुक्त राष्ट्र एजेंसी के कार्यकारी बोर्ड ने सर्वसम्मति से अपने 210 वें सत्र में "Creative Economy" के लिए यूनेस्को-बांग्लादेश बंगबंधु शेख मुजीबुर रहमान अंतर्राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार पर प्रस्ताव को अपनाया। यह पहला मौका है जब संयुक्त राष्ट्र की एजेंसी ने बंगबंधु के नाम पर कोई पुरस्कार शुरू किया।
• यह पुरस्कार बंगबंधु के आदर्शों को दुनिया भर में फैलाने का अवसर प्रदान करेगा और वैश्विक सांस्कृतिक कार्यकर्ताओं को रचनात्मक अर्थव्यवस्था के क्षेत्र में योगदान करने के लिए प्रेरित करेगा।
• यह बांग्लादेश की ब्रांडिंग और छवि निर्माण में एक "विशेष" भूमिका निभाएगा।
• 50,000 अमेरिकी डॉलर की राशि का यह पुरस्कार दो साल में एक बार दिया जाएगा - छह साल में तीन बार पुरस्कार के नवीनीकरण पर बाद में चर्चा की जाएगी।
• पहला यूनेस्को-बंगबंधु पुरस्कार नवंबर 2021 में यूनेस्को की आम सभा के 41 वें सत्र में दिए जाने की तैयारी है। बांग्लादेश ने अगस्त 2019 में इस पुरस्कार का प्रस्ताव रखा।
• यूनेस्को ने सदस्य देशों में वित्तीय मदद के साथ शिक्षा, संस्कृति, विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी जैसे कई क्षेत्रों में नेताओं के योगदान को सम्मानित करने के लिए पुरस्कारों की शुरूआत की है। इसके द्वारा प्रसिद्ध व्यक्तियों या संगठनों के नाम पर 22 पुरस्कार दिए जाते थे।

 अशरफ पटेल को मिला सोशल एंटरप्रेन्योर ऑफ द ईयर अवार्ड - इंडिया 2020

• Pravah and ComMutiny–The Youth Collective (CYC) की संस्थापक सदस्य और बोर्ड मेंबर अशरफ पटेल को सोशल एंटरप्रेन्योर ऑफ द ईयर (SEOY) अवार्ड - इंडिया 2020 से सम्मानित किया गया है। उन्हें यह पुरस्कार केंद्रीय मंत्री महिला और बाल विकास और कपड़ा मंत्रालय स्मृति जुबिन ईरानी द्वारा प्रदान किया गया।
• SEOY अवार्ड “उन उद्यमियों को सम्मानित करता है जो भारत की सोशल समस्याओं को हल करने के लिए नए, स्थायी और स्केलेबल समाधानों को लागू करते हैं। यह 2010 में श्वाब फाउंडेशन और जुबिलेंट भारतीय फाउंडेशन द्वारा स्थापित वार्षिक पुरस्कार का 11 वां संस्करण है।

 बैंकिंग और अर्थव्यवस्था

CRISIL ने चालू वित्त वर्ष में भारत की जीडीपी संकुचन दर को कम कर किया -7.7%

• रेटिंग एजेंसी क्रिसिल ने भारत की जीडीपी की संकुचन दर को कम कर दिया है और अब CRISIL ने चालू वित्त वर्ष 2020-21 के लिए सितंबर 2020 में जारी अपने पूर्वानुमान 9% को दूसरी तिमाही में हुई उम्मीद से अधिक रिकवरी होने के चलते संशोधित कर भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था की वृद्धि दर 7.7% नेगेटिव रहने की उम्मीद जताई है। साथ ही CRISIL वित्त वर्ष 2021-22 में भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था के तेजी से उभरकर को 10% तक की ग्रोथ की संभावना जताई है।

 RBI जयपुर में स्थापित करेगा स्वचालित बैंक प्रसंस्करण केंद्र (ABPC)

• भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक (RBI) ने मुद्रा नोटों की प्राप्ति, भंडारण और भेजने के लिए जयपुर में एक स्वचालित बैंक प्रसंस्करण केंद्र (Automated Banknote Processing Centre-ABPC) स्थापित करने का निर्णय लिया है। ABPC के कार्यों में करेंसी चेस्ट (सीसी) और बैंक शाखाओं से प्राप्त बैंकनोटों का प्रसंस्करण और स्वचालित तरीके से गंदे/अमान्य बैंकनोटों को नष्ट करना भी शामिल होगा। प्रचालन में बैंकनोट्स की मात्रा मार्च 2001 से मार्च 2019 तक तीन गुना बढ़ गई है और आने वाले वर्षों में इसके ओर अधिक बढ़ने की उम्मीद है।
• RBI देश में बैंकनोटों का एकमात्र जारीकर्ता है, और साथ ही मुद्रा के प्रबंधन और इसके सभी पहलुओं के लिए जिम्मेदार है।
• RBI को चार प्रिंटिंग प्रेस और चार टकसालों से सिक्कों की आपूर्ति की जाती है।
• नए बैंकनोट और सिक्के देश भर में स्थित बैंक के 19 निर्गम कार्यालयों में प्राप्त किए जाते हैं, जहाँ से RBI के साथ एक एजेंसी समझौते के तहत अनुसूचित बैंकों द्वारा संचालित लगभग 3,300 CC को वितरित किए जाते हैं।
• CC भंडारगृहों के रूप में कार्य करता है और वहां रखी मुद्रा जनता को वितरण के लिए विभिन्न बैंक शाखाओं/एटीएम नेटवर्क को वितरित करता है।
• प्रचलन से हटाए गए अमान्य नोटों को एक मुद्रा सत्यापन और प्रसंस्करण प्रणाली (Currency Verification and Processing System CVPS) के माध्यम से सत्यापित किया जाता है और कतरन द्वारा नष्ट कर दिया जाता है।

9th Sustainable Mountain Development Summit held in Dehradun

• The 9th edition of Sustainable Mountain Development Summit (SMDS) held in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The four-day-long summit was organised by Indian Mountain Initiative (IMI) and hosted by Sustainable Development Forum Uttaranchal (SDFU), Dehradun.
• The theme for 2020 SMDS was ‘Emerging Pathways for Building a Resilient Post COVID-19 Mountain Economy, Adaptation, Innovation and Acceleration’.
• The Summit deliberated on issues such as migration, water security, climate resilience and innovative solutions for the farm sector, and disaster risk reduction in the Indian Himalayas.
• The focus of the summit was on building pathways toward a resilient and sustainable mountain economy in the context of a post-C-19 scenario and Climate Change.

 Ola to set up world’s largest scooter factory in Tamil Nadu

• The SoftBank-backed mobility platform, Ola has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government, to set up its first factory in the state, at an investment of Rs 2,400 crore. Upon completion, the Ola factory in Tamil Nadu will be the largest scooter manufacturing facility in the world. Initially, the factory will have an annual manufacturing capacity of 2 million units.
• The factory is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of an AtmaNirbhar Bharat and will make India a manufacturing hub for two-wheeled electric vehicles. The new factory will also reduce the dependence of India on import of electric vehicles, boost local manufacturing, create jobs and also improve the technical expertise in the country.

Odisha to host 2023 FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup

• The International Hockey Federation (FIH) had announced that the 2023 FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup will be hosted in Odisha, for a second consecutive time. The tournament will be held at two venues, Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. The Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018 was also hosted by Odisha.
• The 2023 tournament will be 15th edition of the Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup. It will be held at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar and at the Biju Patnaik Hockey Stadium in Rourkela. FIH Hockey World Cup is held after every four years.

 SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

ISRO to launch communication satellite CMS-01

• Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will launch a communication satellite CMS-01, formerly named GSAT-12R, on December 17, using its Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) rocket’s XL variant numbered as PSLV-C50. The CMS-01 will be a replacement for GSAT-12 that weighed 1,410 kg and was launched on July 11, 2011, with a mission life of eight years.
• CMS-01 is a communication satellite envisaged for providing services in Extended-C Band of the frequency spectrum, which will include the Indian mainland, Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep Islands. The 42nd communication satellite of India, it will have a mission life of seven years.
• The 44-metre-high four staged/engine PSLV-C50 is the 22nd flight of PSLV in ‘XL’ configuration (with six strap-on motors hugging the first stage).
• The PSLV in the normal configuration is a four-stage/engine expendable rocket powered by solid and liquid fuels alternatively with six booster motors strapped on to the first stage to give higher thrust during the initial flight moments.
• The Indian space agency has PSLV variants with two and four strap-on motors, larger PSLV-XL and the Core Alone variant without any strap-on motors. The choice of the rocket to be used for a mission depends on the weight of the satellite and the orbit where the satellite has to be orbited.

India and Austria inks MoU on Technology Cooperation

• The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Ministry of Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology of the Republic of Austria on Technology Cooperation in the Road Infrastructure Sector. The MoU will further strengthen ties, promote long-standing bilateral relations and enhance trade and regional integration between the two countries.
• The MoU aims to create an effective framework for bilateral cooperation in the field of road transportation, road/highways infrastructure development, management and administration, road safety and intelligent transport systems between both countries.
• The Indo-Austria bilateral cooperation in the road transport sector would be beneficial both from the perspective of enhanced road safety as well as attractive financing possibilities for the sector, thus fostering and intensifying the already good relations between the two countries, through this MoU in the transport sector.

 India and Uzbekistan inks 9 Agreements to strengthen strategic partnership

• Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev co-chaired the virtual Summit held between the two countries, to strengthen strategic partnership among them. The Government of India also approved a US $448 million Line of Credit for four developmental projects in Uzbekistan in the fields of road construction, sewerage treatment and information technology.
• India and Uzbekistan signed nine Agreements and Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) in various areas including in the field of:

2. Digital Technologies
3. High Impact Community Development Projects
4. Trade, Economic and Investment Cooperation
5. Defence and Security

UNESCO launches Bangabandhu award on creative economy

• UNESCO has launched an international award named after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman following Bangladesh’s proposal. The UN agency’s executive board unanimously adopted the proposal on UNESCO-Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman International Prize for the “Creative Economy” in its 210th session. This is the first time a UN agency launched an award named after Bangabandhu.
• The award will create the opportunity to spread Bangabandhu’s ideals across the world and inspire the global cultural activists to contribute to the field of the creative economy.
• It will also play a “special” role in branding and image-building of Bangladesh.
• The award will be given every two years with $50,000 prize money – three times in six years. The renewal of the award will be discussed later.
• The first UNESCO-Bangabandhu award is set to be given in the 41st session of the UNESCO’s general conference in November 2021. Bangladesh proposed the award in August 2019.
• The UNESCO launches awards in recognition of the contribution of leaders in several fields, such as education, culture, science and technology, with the financial help of the member states. It had launched 22 awards named after noted individuals or organisations.

Ashraf Patel wins Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award – India 2020

• Ashraf Patel, the founder member and Board member of Pravah and ComMutiny – The Youth Collective (CYC) has been declared as the winner of the Social Entrepreneur of the Year (SEOY) Award – India 2020. The award was presented by the Union Minister of Women & Child Development & Textiles, Smriti Zubin Irani.
• The SEOY award “recognizes entrepreneurs who implement innovative, sustainable and scalable solutions to solve India’s social problems. It is the 11th edition of the annual award, instituted by the Schwab Foundation and Jubilant Bhartia Foundation in 2010.

 BANKING AND ECONOMY

CRISIL slows contraction rate for India at -7.7% in FY21

• Rating agency CRISIL has lowered the contraction rate of India’s GDP and now expects the growth rate of the Indian economy to contract 7.7% in the ongoing fiscal 2020-21, compared to the 9% forecast in September 2020, due to “faster-than-expected” recovery in the second quarter. For the fiscal 2021-22 (FY22), CRISIL expects the growth to bounce back to 10%.

 RBI to set up Automated Banknote Processing Centre in Jaipur

• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to set up an Automated Banknote Processing Centre (ABPC) in Jaipur for the receipt, storage and dispatch of currency notes. The functions of the ABPC will also include processing of banknotes received from currency chests (CCs) and bank branches and destruction of soiled banknotes in an automated manner. The volume of banknotes in circulation has increased three-fold from March 2001 to March 2019 and is expected to rise further in the years to come.
• RBI is the sole issuer of banknotes of the country and responsible for the management of currency and all its aspects.
• RBI is supplied with banknotes from four printing presses and coins from four mints.
• The new banknotes and coins are received at 19 issue offices of the bank located across the country from where these are further distributed to about 3,300 CCs operated by scheduled banks under an agency agreement with the RBI.
• The CCs act as storehouses and the currency stored there is distributed to various bank branches/ATM network for distribution to the public.
• The unfit notes withdrawn from circulation are verified through a Currency Verification and Processing System (CVPS) and destroyed by shredding.
