NLAT Exam 2020: Check Exam Dates, Eligibility, and More

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) Bangalore will NLAT from this year. The NLAT Registrations have begun from September 3 - 10, 2020. The NLAT 2020 is an online mode home-based exam scheduled for 12th September 2020. The NLSIU had raised several concerns regarding the postponement of the CLAT 2020 Exam. After several meetings with the consortium, finally, the NLSIU was disassociated from the CLAT 2020.  Henceforth, NLSIU will no longer be a part of CLAT in any manner. This lead to the new law entrance exam called NLAT by NLSIU Bangalore.

NLAT Notification 2020-21

The National Law School of India University Bangalore released a new notification in regards to the conduction of a separate entrance exam i.e., NLAT 2020. NLSIU Bangalore presented certain options for conducting a separate exam for their university which was denied by the Consortium many times. Aspirants can read the detailed notification and then apply accordingly. Due to various circumstances as explained above, the NLSIU decided to conduct the separation examination. The notification is an official document released by the NLSIU to inform all aspirants to apply for NLAT in the stipulated time and gear up their preparations for the exam. The University has announced that it will not accept CLAT 2020 scores. instead, they will conduct their own entrance exam.

Technical/System Requirements for Appearing in NLAT 2020

NLSIU Bangalore has released certain system requirements or specifications which candidates need to arrange for appearing in the NLAT 2020 Exam.

System Requirements

  • The candidates must download the “Safe Assessment Browser (SAB) Tool” which will be provided by the exam authorities.
  • Pop-up blockers and antivirus on the web browser must be disabled before appearing in the exam
  • Java script must be enabled
  • Minimum internet requirement should be 1 Mbps. The exam data, including audio and video, will be streamed over the cloud. So, in order to allow the continuous transfer of data, candidates must ensure the minimum specified speed.
  • The system should have the time and date settings in accordance with Indian Standard Time (GMT +5:30)
  • Video conferencing services, screen sharing/ remote screen projection services, virtual machines are not allowed. Any candidate caught with such tools will stand disqualified.
  • Candidates are also not allowed to use wired/ wireless headphones/ earphones/ other audio devices.

NLAT Eligibility

The eligibility criteria remain the same for NLAT as prescribed by National Law University for CLAT Exam. There is no change in the application process as well. Have a look at the brief NLAT Eligibility Criteria for both LLB and LLM courses.

  • BA LLB Course - Candidate must have completed Class 12th from a recognized institute/board with a minimum of 45% marks. SC and ST candidates need to score at least 40% marks in their qualifying exam.
  • LLM Course - Candidates must have completed a graduate degree in law from a university recognized by the Bar Council of India. In graduation, the candidate must score at least 50% aggregate marks. SC and ST category candidates need to secure at least 45% marks.

NLAT Application Form 2020

The application process for NLAT 2020 is still ongoing. Candidates can fill the form until midnight on 10th September 2020. Follow the below-listed instructions to fill the form for NLAT correctly.

  • Firstly visit the official website of NLSIU i.e., admissions.nls.ac.in
  • Register yourself to the portal using your mobile number. 
  • On registration, an OTP will be sent to the given mobile number for validation. Once your mobile number is validated, you may login using your mobile number and password provided at the time of registration. 
  • Fill all the required details carefully. Enter the personal details as per the marks sheets or any other ID proof. Make sure there is no mistakes while filling.
  • After entering the details, there are few scanned documents to be uploaded like: Candidate‟s recent passport size photograph; Scanned copy of an original Government-issued photo-ID like Driver‟s license, Aadhar Card, Voter ID, Ration Card, Passport, etc; Scanned copy of original marks statement and pass certificate of standard 10, or matriculation, or equivalent examination; a Scanned copy of original marks statement and pass certificate of 10+2 or equivalent examination; a Scanned copy of original caste certificate/ tribe certificate/disability certificate wherever applicable; a Scanned copy of the documentary proof, including Letter from the Head of Institution and School certificates/Report cards to prove schooling in Karnataka for ten years, wherever applicable.
  • After uploading, click on save and submit the application form.
  • Ensure to fill the form and upload documents correctly as there is a form correction process after the final submission.
  • Candidates must complete the fee payment by paying the prescribed fee in online or offline mode.

NLAT Merit List 2020

The merit list will be prepared based on the performance of candidates in the online examination. The merit rank, aggregate marks and other details will be shared with the candidate over registered mail or SMS. In case, two or more candidates have scored equal marks, the university will adopt the following tie-breaking formula.

  • The candidate who scores more marks in the Legal Reasoning section will be given a higher rank.
  • If the tie persists, the candidate with a higher number of correct answers will be given a higher rank.
  • Still, if the tie remains unresolved, the computerized draw of lots will be done.

NLSIU Admission 2020
