The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) Bangalore will NLAT from this year. The NLAT Registrations have begun from September 3 - 10, 2020. The NLAT 2020 is an online mode home-based exam scheduled for 12th September 2020. The NLSIU had raised several concerns regarding the postponement of the CLAT 2020 Exam. After several meetings with the consortium, finally, the NLSIU was disassociated from the CLAT 2020.  Henceforth, NLSIU will no longer be a part of CLAT in any manner. This lead to the new law entrance exam called NLAT by NLSIU Bangalore.

Feedback About NLAT 2020 Exam

  • The NLSIU Bangalore conducted the National Law Admission Test successfully on 12th September 2020.

Provisional Answer Keys Out

NLAT Notification 2020-21

The National Law School of India University Bangalore released a new notification in regards to the conduction of a separate entrance exam i.e., NLAT 2020. NLSIU Bangalore presented certain options for conducting a separate exam for their university which was denied by the Consortium many times. Aspirants can read the detailed notification and then apply accordingly. Due to various circumstances as explained above, the NLSIU decided to conduct the separation examination. The notification is an official document released by the NLSIU to inform all aspirants to apply for NLAT in the stipulated time and gear up their preparations for the exam. The University has announced that it will not accept CLAT 2020 scores. instead, they will conduct their own entrance exam.

Technical/System Requirements for Appearing in NLAT 2020

NLSIU Bangalore has released certain system requirements or specifications which candidates need to arrange for appearing in the NLAT 2020 Exam.

System Requirements

  • The candidates must download the “Safe Assessment Browser (SAB) Tool” which will be provided by the exam authorities.
  • Pop-up blockers and antivirus on the web browser must be disabled before appearing in the exam
  • Java script must be enabled
  • Minimum internet requirement should be 1 Mbps. The exam data, including audio and video, will be streamed over the cloud. So, in order to allow the continuous transfer of data, candidates must ensure the minimum specified speed.
  • The system should have the time and date settings in accordance with Indian Standard Time (GMT +5:30)
  • Video conferencing services, screen sharing/ remote screen projection services, virtual machines are not allowed. Any candidate caught with such tools will stand disqualified.
  • Candidates are also not allowed to use wired/ wireless headphones/ earphones/ other audio devices.

NLAT Eligibility

The eligibility criteria remain the same for NLAT as prescribed by National Law University for CLAT Exam. There is no change in the application process as well. Have a look at the brief NLAT Eligibility Criteria for both LLB and LLM courses.

  • BA LLB Course - Candidate must have completed Class 12th from a recognized institute/board with a minimum of 45% marks. SC and ST candidates need to score at least 40% marks in their qualifying exam.
  • LLM Course - Candidates must have completed a graduate degree in law from a university recognized by the Bar Council of India. In graduation, the candidate must score at least 50% aggregate marks. SC and ST category candidates need to secure at least 45% marks.

NLAT Application Form 2020

The application process for NLAT 2020 is still ongoing. Candidates can fill the form until midnight on 10th September 2020. Follow the below-listed instructions to fill the form for NLAT correctly.

  • Firstly visit the official website of NLSIU i.e., admissions.nls.ac.in
  • Register yourself to the portal using your mobile number. 
  • On registration, an OTP will be sent to the given mobile number for validation. Once your mobile number is validated, you may login using your mobile number and password provided at the time of registration. 
  • Fill all the required details carefully. Enter the personal details as per the marks sheets or any other ID proof. Make sure there is no mistakes while filling.
  • After entering the details, there are few scanned documents to be uploaded like: Candidate‟s recent passport size photograph; Scanned copy of an original Government-issued photo-ID like Driver‟s license, Aadhar Card, Voter ID, Ration Card, Passport, etc; Scanned copy of original marks statement and pass certificate of standard 10, or matriculation, or equivalent examination; a Scanned copy of original marks statement and pass certificate of 10+2 or equivalent examination; a Scanned copy of original caste certificate/ tribe certificate/disability certificate wherever applicable; a Scanned copy of the documentary proof, including Letter from the Head of Institution and School certificates/Report cards to prove schooling in Karnataka for ten years, wherever applicable.
  • After uploading, click on save and submit the application form.
  • Ensure to fill the form and upload documents correctly as there is a form correction process after the final submission.
  • Candidates must complete the fee payment by paying the prescribed fee in online or offline mode.

NLAT UG Exam Pattern and Syllabus

NLAT Result

The results will be declared on the official website on 15th September 2020. Based on the candidate's performance in the exam, candidates will be shortlisted for offering admission to the 5-year LLB course. NLAT result will be consist of marks scored by the candidates and their provisional qualifying status. NLAT Merit List 2020

The merit list will be prepared based on the performance of candidates in the online examination. The merit rank, aggregate marks and other details will be shared with the candidate over registered mail or SMS. In case, two or more candidates have scored equal marks, the university will adopt the following tie-breaking formula.

  • The candidate who scores more marks in the Legal Reasoning section will be given a higher rank.
  • If the tie persists, the candidate with a higher number of correct answers will be given a higher rank.
  • Still, if the tie remains unresolved, the computerized draw of lots will be done.

NLSIU Admission 2020

Based on the merit list, the admission to NLSIU Bangalore will be shortlisted. Candidates who qualify the examination will be intimated of the admission offer through registered mail or mobile number. To confirm the acceptance, the candidate must accept the provisional admission offer and submit the documents such as mark sheets, certified, character certificate, reservation certificate, and others. If the candidates fail to submit the details or doesn't accept the offer, the seat may be given to another candidate.

When is the last date for NLAT 2020?

Aspirants can fill the forms until 10th September 2020 midnight. Candidates can fill the forms only through online mode. 

Will the CLAT scores be considered for NLSIU?

No, from this year, NLSIU will be conducting a separate entrance exam for their university i.e., NLAT 2020. 

Will there be a fee refund off CLAT Application fees?

NLSIU doesn't provide any refund in application fee. However, candidates can request the appropriate authorities of Consortium of NLUs

Why does the NLAT 2020 have negative marking for unanswered/ un-attempted questions?

The NLAT 2020 aims to test depth of preparation and recognise those candidates who have the combination of skills and abilities that the University seeks in incoming students. 

Why does the NLAT 2020 not permit candidates to review/ revisit questions?

This method is due to prevent candidates from malpractice. This will help towards preventing unauthorised collaboration among candidates.

What is the Theory behind the scoring system for the NLAT 2020?

The scoring system will ensure that candidates do not attempt to guess at the correct answer; further, in combination with a shorter format and fewer questions, this helps ensure that deeper preparation is recognised and rewarded. 

Is the NLAT Exam Pattern same as CLAT Exam?

The types of questions asked, syllabus, and sections included in NLAT 2020 is the same as CLAT. However, the number of questions will be different, test duration will be short, and there will be negative marking even for unanswered questions. 

I have already applied for CLAT 2020? So, do I have to apply separately for NLAT 2020?

NLAT is specifically for NLSIU Bangalore. If you wish to get admission in NLSIU, then you must apply separately for NLAT again.

Are there any NLAT Mock Test conducted before the exam?

Yes, NLAT Mock test have begun from September 9-11, 2020. This can be attempted from the official website of NLSIU.

Will NLSIU release NLAT merit list 2020?

The exam conducting authority will release a General NLAT 2020 merit list before the admission or counselling process.
