Renewable energy country attractiveness index 2016 released: India Placed at 3rd Position

Global organization EY on 10 May 2016 released the Renewable energy country attractiveness index 2016. 
The report reveals 40 countries on the attractiveness of their renewable energy investment and deployment opportunities based on a number of indicators.
•    The emerging markets now represent half of the countries in the 40-strong index, including four African markets featuring in the top 30.
•    Index was topped by the United States (US) and was followed by China at 2nd position and India at 3rd position.
•    Countries like Chile at 4th position, Brazil at 6th position and Mexico at 7th position climbed higher in the index top 10.
•    While Germany and France fell in the ranking to 5th and 8th position respectively.
• Argentina was the highest-scoring new entrant in the index. The transformation of the country’s economy brought it into the index in 18th position.
•    The Renewable energy country attractiveness index (RECAI) ranks 40 markets on the attractiveness of their renewable energy investment and deployment opportunities.
•    The ranking is given based on a number of macro, energy market and technology-specific indicators.

Sudha breaks 3000 M steeplechase record

Olympics runner Sudha Singh, who created a national record in women's 3000m steeplechase at the International Association of Athletics Federations Diamond League in Shanghai last week.
•    Sudha's new record — 9:26:55secs — rewritten 15 days after Asian champion Lalita Babar's national mark in New Delhi, has intensified the friendly rivalry between the duo who train under same foreign coach Nikolai Snesraev.
•    Lalita has already qualified for the Rio Olympics in women's 3000m steeplechase.
•    For Sudha, the the IAAF Diamond League race was her first international outing on track since the 2014 Asian Games and she admitted to have butterflies in her stomach prior to the prestigious event in Shanghai, where she finished eighth in the women's 3000m steeplechase.
•    Sudha, finished fourth in her pet event at the 2014 Asian Games.
•    Lalita, who finished eighth in the World Championships in Beijing last year, said she could not run her natural race in Shanghai.

BSF to unveil tallest national flag

The Border Security Force (BSF) has announced plans to unveil a 350-feet-high national flag, the tallest in the country, near the Attari-Wagah border by January 2017. 
•    It can be seen both from Lahore as well as Amritsar. 
•    The current record is held by the flag on top of a 293-feet-high mast in Jharkhand’s Ranchi.
•    Apart from that various new high altitude flags have been put across the nation. 
•    one such flag is also situated in New Delhi central park which is now a great tourist attracttion
•    Such initiatives raise the patriotism and respect for the country into the hearts of people.
