AYUSH Minister to inaugurate conference of State Health Ministers in New Delhi tomorrow
The third Conference of Health/AYUSH Ministers of States/UTs will be organized by the Ministry of AYUSH in New Delhi tomorrow.
● It will be inaugurated by the Minister of State for AYUSH (Independent Charge) Shri Shripad Yesso Naik. The day long conference will provide an opportunity to interact with all the States/UTs for the development of AYUSH sector.
● The conference will be attended by state AYUSH/Health Ministers/Secretaries and officials; senior officials of AYUSH Ministry and representatives of AYUSH organizations.
● The purpose of this Conference is to discuss the various issues connected with propagation and mainstreaming of AYUSH, and also to take stock of the progress made and developments that took place during the last two years.
● The Conference aims also to deliberate upon how to take AYUSH systems forward in the healthcare delivery system of the country, as acceptance of AYUSH systems among the people of not only this country, but the world over is increasing.
● It is the endeavour of the Ministry to make AYUSH systems of medicine as the preferred, affordable, safe and credible solutions for health problems among the people at large.
● The Conference is expected to streamline the coordination with the States/UTs to ensure and effect better and affordable healthcare delivery in the country.

Petroleum Minister meets Mr Showkutally Soodhun, Vice-Prime Minister of Mauritius
Minister of State (I/C) for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan met H.E. Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Housing and Lands of Mauritius, Mr Shokutally Soodhun. Mr Soodhun is on a three day visit to India for the meeting of the Joint Committee on Hydrography and to further strengthen India-Mauritius bilateral maritime cooperation.
● India and Mauritius enjoy old and time-tested ties which are rooted in culture and kinship which have grown from strength to strength in recent years.
● In the hydrocarbon sector, Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), India’s PSU refinery, has been supplying the Island nation’s petroleum product requirements since 2006.
● Both countries are presently working towards further deepening the engagement in the oil and gas sector.
● During the meeting, Shri Pradhan assured India’s continued support to Mauritius in meeting its energy requirement.
● He also expressed India’s commitment in Mauritius becoming a regional petroleum hub, through requisite oil and gas sector infrastructure development, including to ensure energy security of Mauritius.
● Both Ministers expressed their keenness to work towards further strengthening the bilateral engagements in the hydrocarbon sector and make it one of the important areas of bilateral cooperation between both the countries.
20 million dollar deal between India & Mauritius
NBCC, a Navratna construction major under the Ministry of Urban Development will execute a 20 million US dollars (Rs 130 crore) social housing project in Mauritius.
● A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard was signed here today in the presence of Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu and the visiting Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Housing and Lands, Showkutally Soodhun.
● As per the MoU, NBCC will undertake construction of 700 duplex type houses with 50 sq mt net floor area with two bedrooms, living and dining rooms, kitchen, bathrooms and toilets each in 18 months in Dagotiere and Mare Tabac.
● The visiting dignitary also informed that NBCC will also execute construction of new Supreme Court Building at a cost of 33 million US dollars (Rs 220 crore) in Port Louis in 24 months.
● An agreement has been signed earlier this month in this regard.Government of India has sanctioned a grant of 353 million US dollars for execution of five projects in Mauritius including Metro Express Project, new ENT Hospital and supply of digital tablets to primary school children.
● The visiting Mauritius leader thanked India for assisting his country in several fields.

World Poetry Day celebrated
The World Poetry Day was celebrated on 21 March 2017 across the globe.
● The objective behind the day is to support linguistic diversity through poetic expression as well as to offer endangered languages the opportunity to be heard within their societies.
● The day also provides an occasion to honour poets, revive oral traditions of poetry recitals, promote the reading, writing and teaching of poetry.
● The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) first adopted 21 March as World Poetry Day during its 30th General Conference in Paris in 1999.
● Each country is invited to celebrate the day in its own manner with the active participation of National Commissions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and public and private institutions concerned.
International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination observed
Every person is entitled to human rights without discrimination.
● The rights to equality and non-discrimination are cornerstones of human rights law.
● Yet in many parts of the world, discriminatory practices are still widespread, including racial, ethnic, religious and nationality based profiling, and incitement to hatred.
● Refugees and migrants are particular targets of racial profiling and incitement to hatred.
● In the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants adopted in September 2016, United Nations Member States strongly condemned acts and manifestations of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance against refugees and migrants, and committed to a range of steps to counter such attitudes and behaviours, particularly regarding hate crimes, hate speech and racial violence.

Navniti Prasad Singh sworn in as Kerala HC Chief Justice
Justice Navanita Prasad Singh was on 20 March 2017 sworn in as the new Chief Justice of Kerala High Court.
● The Governor of Kerala Justice (retd) P Sathasivam administered the oath of office to Justice Singh at a function held at the Raj Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram.
● After doing schooling from Scindia School in Gwalior, he did graduation and LL.B. from the Delhi University.
● He practiced in commercial, taxation and constitutional matters in Patna and Jharkhand High Courts.
● His private corporate clients include State Bank of India, Lalit Narain Mithila University and other statutory authorities.
● He was designated as a Senior Advocate on 11 December 2004 by the Patna high court.
● He was elevated as a Judge of the Patna High Court on 6 March 2006.
● Justice Navaniti Prasad Singh was born on 6 November 1955.

Tamil Nadu wins Vijay Hazare Trophy
Tamil Nadu has won the domestic 50-over competition, the Vijay Hazare Trophy, for the fifth time.
● In the Final played at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi yesterday, they defeated Bengal by 37 runs.
● Opting to bat, Tamil Nadu posted 217, riding on a century by Dinesh Karthik. He made 112.
● In reply, they bundled out Bengal for 180 in 45.5 overs.
● Aswin Crist, Rahil Shah and M. Mohammad bagged 2 wickets each, while for Bengal, Sudip Chatterjee top scored with 58.
● Karthik was named man of the match.
● It was Tamil Nadu’s third victory over Bengal in the final of this competition.

Bharatiya Mahila Bank to merge with SBI
The government on Monday said it has decided to merge the Bharatiya Mahila Bank (BMB) with the State Bank of India (SBI) to ensure greater banking services outreach to more women.
● The decision has been taken in view of the advantage of the large network of SBI.
● The objectives of affordable credit to women as well as propagation of women-centric products need to be quickly achieved through a wider network and lower cost of funds.
● SBI group already has 126 exclusive all-women branches across the country while BMB has only seven.
● In the three years since BMB was set up in 2013, it has extended loans of Rs 192 crore to women borrowers.
● The SBI group has provided loans of about Rs 46,000 crore to women.
● SBI has more than 20,000 branches. Out its workforce of around 2 lakh, 22 per cent are women.
आयुष मंत्री कल नई दिल्ली में आयोजित हो रहे राज्य के स्वास्थ्य मंत्रियों के सम्मेलन का उद्घाटन करेंगे
आयुष मंत्रालय ने राज्यों/केन्द्र शासित प्रदेशों के स्वास्थ्य/आयुष मंत्रियों के तीसरे सम्मेलन का कल नई दिल्ली में आयोजन किया है। इसका उद्घाटन आयुष राज्यमंत्री (स्वतंत्र प्रभार) श्री श्रीपद यशो नायक करेंगे।
● इस एक दिन के सम्मेलन में सभी राज्यों/ केन्द्र शासित प्रदेशों के प्रतिनिधियों को आयुष क्षेत्र के विकास के लिए एक-दूसरे से मिलने का अवसर मिलेगा। इस सम्मेलन में राज्यों के आयुष/स्वास्थ्य मंत्रियों/सचिवों और अधिकारियों के साथ-साथ आयुष मंत्रालय के अधिकारी एवं आयुष संस्थाओं के प्रतिनिधि भाग लेंगे।
● इस सम्मेलन का उद्देश्य आयुष के प्रचार और मुख्यधारा के साथ जुड़े विभिन्न मुद्दों पर चर्चा करना है, और साथ ही पिछले दो वर्षों के दौरान हुई प्रगति और विकास की जानकारी लेना भी है।
● इस सम्मेलन का उद्देश्य देश के स्वास्थ्य में आयुष प्रणालियों को कैसे आगे लाना है, इस बारे में भी विचार करना है। इसके साथ आयुष प्रणालियों की स्वीकृति न सिर्फ देश में बल्कि विदेशों में भी तेजी बढ़ रही है।
● मंत्रालय स्वास्थ्य समस्याओं के समाधान के लिए आयुष पद्धति को पसंदीदा, सस्ती, सुरक्षित और विश्वसनीय समाधान के रूप में लोगों तक पहुंचाने का प्रयास कर रहा है।
● इस सम्मेलन के जरिए राज्यों / केन्द्र शासित प्रदेशों के साथ समन्वय को सुव्यवस्थित करने की उम्मीद है ताकि देश में बेहतर और किफायती स्वास्थ्य को सुनिश्चित किया जा सके।
पेट्रोलियम मंत्री ने मॉरीशस के उप-प्रधानमंत्री श्री शोकुटाली शोधून से मुलाकात की
केन्द्रीय पेट्रोलियम एवं प्राकृतिक गैस राज्यमंत्री (स्वतंत्र प्रभार) श्री धर्मेन्द्र प्रधान ने मॉरीशस के उप-प्रधानमंत्री तथा आवास एवं भूमि सुधार मंत्री महामहिम श्री शोकुटाली शोधून से मुलाकात की।
● श्री शोधून भारत के तीन दिवसीय दौरे पर हैं, इस दौरान वे हाइड्रोग्राफी से संबंधित संयुक्त समिति के अधिवेशन में भाग लेंगे और साथ ही भारत-मॉरीशस द्विपक्षीय मैरीटाइम सहयोग को और सुदृढ़ बनाने की दिशा में भी कार्य करेंगे।
● भारत और मॉरीशस के बीच पुराने और सांस्कृतिक संबंध रहे हैं जो समय के साथ और भी मजबूत होते गये हैं। हाइड्रोकार्बन के क्षेत्र में सक्रिय भारत की सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र की उपक्रम मंगलूर रिफाइनरी एंड पेट्रोकेमिकल्स लिमिटेड (एमआरपीएल) 2006 से मॉरीशस की पेट्रोलियम जरूरतों को पूरा करते आ रही है।
● दोनों देश वर्तमान में तेल और गैस क्षेत्र में सहयोग को और मजबूती प्रदान करने की दिशा में काम कर रहे हैं।
● मुलाकात के दौरान, श्री प्रधान ने मॉरीशस को ऊर्जा के क्षेत्र में पूर्ण सहयोग का आश्वासन दिया। उन्होंने मॉरीशस को तेल और गैस क्षेत्र में विकास के लिए हर संभव मदद के भी भरोसा दिलाया।
● दोनों मंत्रियों ने हाइड्रोकार्बन के क्षेत्र में द्विपक्षीय सहयोग को और मजबूती देने की दिशा में काम करने की इच्छा व्यक्त की और दोनों देशों के बीच द्विपक्षीय सहयोग की दिशा में इस क्षेत्र को महत्व देने पर जोर भी दिया।
भारत और मॉरीशस के बीच 20 मिलियन अमेरिकी डॉलर का समझौता हुआ
भारत और मॉरीशस ने 20 मार्च 2017 को मॉरीशस में 20 मिलियन अमेरिकी डॉलर के सामाजिक आवास परियोजना हेतु एक समझौता किया.
● समझौता ज्ञापन पर केंद्रीय शहरी विकास मंत्री एम. वेंकैया नायडू और भारत दौरे पर आए मॉरीशस के उप– प्रधानमंत्री और आवास एवं भूमि मंत्री शौकतुली सूदून की उपस्थिति में हस्ताक्षर किए गए.
● समझौता ज्ञापन के अनुसार केंद्र सरकार की एनबीसीसी(इंडिया) लिमिटेड 50 वर्ग मीटर वाले नेट फ्लोर एरिया के साथ 700 डूप्लेक्स घरों का निर्माण करेगी.
● प्रत्येक घर में दो बेडरुम, लीविंग और डाइनिंग रुम, किचन, बाथरुम और टॉयलेट होगा.
● एनबीसीसी (इंडिया) लिमिटेड, पहले यह नेशनल बिल्डिंग्स कंस्ट्रक्शन कॉरपोरेशन लिमिटेड के नाम से जाना जाता था, भारत सरकार की ब्लू–चिप नवरतन उद्यम है और यह शहरी विकास मंत्रालय के अधीन आता है.
● वित्त वर्ष 2015-16 में कंपनी ने शीर्ष स्तर में बीत वर्ष की तुलना में 32 फीसदी की बढ़ोतरी दर्ज की है.
● इसने 311 करोड़ रु. का प्रोजेक्ट पोस्ट किया था जबकि वित्त वर्ष 2015-16 के दौरान इसकी कुल आमदनी 5838 करोड़ रु. के स्तर पर पहुंच गई थी.
● ब्यूरो ऑफ इंडियन स्टैंडर्ड्स (बीआईएस) द्वारा प्रोजेक्ट मैनेजमेंट और कंसल्टेंसी के संदर्भ में ISO 9001:2008 प्रमाणित इस कंपनी का वर्तमान संचालन क्षेत्र तीन मुख्य क्षेत्रों में वर्गीकृत किया गया है.
21 मार्च को दुनियाभर में विश्व कविता दिवस मनाया गया
विश्वभर में विश्व कविता दिवस 21 मार्च 2017 को मनाया गया. युनेस्को ने प्रति वर्ष 21 मार्च को कवियों और कविता की सृजनात्मक महिमा को सम्मान देने के लिए यह दिवस मनाने का निर्णय किया.
● विश्व कविता दिवस के अवसर पर भारत सरकार के संस्कृति मंत्रालय तथा साहित्य अकादमी की ओर से सबद-विश्व कविता उत्सव का आयोजन किया जाता है. युनेस्को ने 21 मार्च को विश्व कविता दिवस के रूप में मनाने की घोषणा साल 1999में की थी.
● कविता रचनात्मक से जुड़ा क्षेत्र है इसलिए इस दिन शिक्षक, सरकारी संस्थाएं, सामुदायिक समूह तथा व्यक्तिगत रूप से कवि कविता लेखन को बढ़ावा देने हेतु जगह-जगह आयोजन करते हैं.
● विश्व कविता दिवस एक ऐसा अवसर है जहां पर बच्चों को स्कूल की कक्षा में कविताओं से रूबरू कराया जाता है. इस दिन विद्यार्थी अलग-अलग तरह की कविताओं को पढ़ते हैं.
● यह एक ऐसा मौक़ा है जहां पर कवि न सिर्फ अपनी भाषा की भव्यता से लोगों का परिचय करवाता है बल्कि अपनी कविता की शक्ति को भी प्रदर्शित करता है.
● विश्व कविता दिवस मनाने का उद्देश्य यही है कि विश्व में कविताओं के पठन, लेखन, प्रकाशन और शिक्षण हेतु नए लेखकों को प्रोत्साहित किया जाए. इसके जरिए छोटे प्रकाशकों के उस प्रयास को भी प्रोत्साहित किया जाता है जिनका प्रकाशन कविता से संबंधित है.
● हालांकि जब यूनेस्को ने इस दिन की घोषणा की थी तब उसने बताया था कि क्षेत्रीय, राष्ट्रीय एवं अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर कविता आंदोलन को यह एक तरह की पहचान मिली है.
नवनीति प्रसाद सिंह बने केरल के मुख्य न्यायाधीश
जस्टिस नवनीति प्रसाद सिंह 20 मार्च 2017 को केरल हाईकोर्ट के नए चीफ जस्टिस पद की शपथ ली. केरल के राज्यपाल जस्टिस (सेवानिवृत्त) पी सांतासिवम ने जस्टिस सिंह को तिरुवनंतपुरम में राज भवन में आयोजित एक कार्यक्रम में शपथ दिलाई.
● ग्वालियर के सिंधिया स्कूल से स्कूली शिक्षा पूरी करने के बाद उन्होंने दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय से स्नातक और एल.एल.बी. किया.
● पटना और झारखंड हाईकोर्ट में उन्होंने वाणिज्यिक, कराधान और संवैधानिक मामलों पर प्रैक्टिस किया.
● उनके प्राइवेट कॉरपोरेट क्लाइंट में भारतीय स्टेट बैंक, ललित नरायण मिथिला विश्वविद्यालय और अन्य सांविधिक प्राधिकरण शामिल हैं.
● पटना हाईकोर्ट ने 11 दिसंबर 2004 को उन्हें सीनियर एडवोकेट (वरिष्ठ अधिवक्ता) नियुक्त किया था. 6 मार्च 2006 को पटना हाईकोर्ट ने उन्हें जज बनाया था.
● जस्टिस नवनीति प्रसाद सिंह का जन्म 6 नवंबर 1955 को हुआ था.
विजय हज़ारे ट्रॉफी: बंगाल को हराकर तमिलनाडु चैंपियन
पहले सीनियर बल्लेबाज दिनेश कार्तिक ने शानदार शतकीय पारी खेली. उसके बाद गेंदबाजों ने अनुशासित प्रदर्शन किया.
● इसके दम पर तमिलनाडु ने विजय हजारे ट्रॉफी एक दिवसीय क्रिकेट टूर्नामेंट में बंगाल को 37 रन से हरा दिया .
● तमिलनाडु ने इस राष्ट्रीय एक दिवसीय चैम्पियनशिप में तीसरी बार बंगाल को हराया है. इससे पहले 2008- 09 और 2009-10 में भी वह बंगाल को हरा चुके हैं.
● तमिलनाडु ने 47.2 ओवर में 217 रन बनाए, जिसमें कार्तिक के 112 रन शामिल थे. कार्तिक ने अपनी पारी में 14 चौके लगाए.
● बंगाल के लिए मोहम्मद शमी ने 26 रन देकर चार और अशोक डिंडा ने 36 रन देकर तीन विकेट लिए.
● तमिलनाडु के गेंदबाजों ने हालांकि उम्दा प्रदर्शन करते हुए बंगाल को 180 रन पर समेट दिया. ऑफ स्पिनर वाशिंगटन सुंदर को विकेट नहीं मिला.
● लेकिन उन्होंने बेहद किफायती गेंदबाजी करते हुए सिर्फ 17 रन दिए.
● श्रीवत्स गोस्वामी (23) और अभिमन्यु ईश्वरन (1) सस्ते में आउट हो गए. कप्तान मनोज तिवारी भी सिर्फ 32 रन बना सके और विजय शंकर ने उन्हें बोल्ड कर दिया.
● सुदीप चटर्जी (58) और अनुस्तूप मजूमदार (24) ने पांचवें विकेट के लिए 65 रन जोड़े. स्पिनर राहिल शाह ने इस साझेदारी को तोड़ा.
भारतीय महिला बैंक के एसबीआई में मर्जर को सरकार ने दी मंजूरी
सरकार ने घोषणा की है कि भारतीय स्टेट बैंक (एसबीआई) के साथ भारतीय महिला बैंक के विलय को मंजूरी दे दी गई है।
● भारतीय महिला बैंक का गठन यूपीए सरकार के कार्यकाल के दौरान 2013 में किया गया था। महिलाओं के लिए खासतौर पर बने इस बैंक की देश भर में करीब 100 शाखाएं हैं।
● इस बैंक का मुख्यालय दिल्ली में है और इसके करीब 500 कर्मचारी हैं। गौरतलब है कि केंद्रीय कैबिनेट इससे पहले पांच एसोसिएट बैंक के एसबीआई में विलय की मंजूरी दे चुका है। उस वक्त मर्जर प्रक्रिया में महिला बैंक को शामिल नहीं किया गया था।
● इस विलय प्रक्रिया की औपचारिक घोषणा करते हुए वित्त मंत्रालय ने कहा कि इसका मकसद ज्यादा से ज्यादा महिलाओं तक तेज गति से बैंकिंग सेवाएं मुहैया कराना है।
● इसके अलावा कर्ज की लागत कम हो और महिलाओं के लिए खास तौर पर प्रोडक्ट तैयार किया जा सके। जानकारी के मुताबिक स्थापना के बाद से अब तक भारतीय महिला बैंक ने करीब 192 करोड़ रुपये का कर्ज महिलाओं को दिया है।
● मंजूरी के बाद अब स्टेट बैंक ऑफ बीकानेर एंड जयपुर, स्टेट बैंक ऑफ त्रावणकोर, स्टेट बैंक ऑफ पटियाला, स्टेट बैंक ऑफ मैसूर और स्टेट बैंक ऑफ हैदराबाद का एसबीआई में मर्जर हो जाएगा।
● इस मर्जर के बाद एसबीआई दुनिया के बड़े बैंकों की सूची में शुमार हो जाएगा।
21 मार्च: जातीय भेदभाव के उन्मूलन के लिए अंतरराष्ट्रीय दिवस
विश्व भर में 21 मार्च 2017 को जातीय भेदभाव के उन्मूलन के लिए अंतरराष्ट्रीय दिवस मनाया गया. इस दिवस का विषय था ‘उत्पीड़न के संदर्भ में नस्लीय रूपरेखा और भेदभाव के लिए उत्तेजना.’
● नस्लीय और जातीय रूपरेखा को सुरक्षा और सीमा नियंत्रण कर्मियों द्वारा नस्ल, रंग, वंश या राष्ट्रीय या जातीय उत्पत्ति पर निर्भरता के रूप में परिभाषित किया जाता है ताकि व्यक्तियों को विस्तृत खोज, पहचान की जांच और जांच के लिए आधार प्रदान किया जा सके.
● शरणार्थियों और प्रवासियों को विशेष रूप से नस्लीय भेदभाव तथा नफरत के लिए भड़काया जाता है. सितंबर 2016 को संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने ‘टूगेदर’ नामक कार्यक्रम आरंभ किया था जिसका उद्देश्य एक-दूसरे के लिए सम्मान, प्रेम, सुरक्षा तथा आदर की भावना बनाना है. इसी उद्देश्य को लेकर, संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने जातीय भेदभाव के खिलाफ अन्य कार्यक्रम भी लॉन्च किये.
● संयुक्त राष्ट्र मानवाधिकार कार्यालय द्वारा भी ‘स्टैंड अप फॉर समवन्स राइट्स टुडे’ नामक अभियान आरंभ किया गया ताकि हम उन लोगों की सहायता कर सकें जिन्हें उनके अधिकार नहीं मिल रहे अथवा उनका हनन किया जा रहा है.
● यह दिवस 21 मार्च 1960 की एक घटना से जुड़ा है जिसमें पुलिस द्वारा की गयी गोलीबारी में 69 लोग मारे गये थे. दक्षिण अफ्रीका में पुलिस से इन निहत्थे लोगों पर उस समय गोलीबारी आरंभ की जब वे शांतिपूर्ण प्रदर्शन कर रहे थे.
