SPORTS
India wins the WCT20 for the Blind
India on 12 February 2017 won the ICC T20 Blind World Cup. In the final clash played at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy stadium, India defeated Pakistan by 9-wickets.
● Successfully defending their title in the T20 Blind World Cup, India achieved the victory target of 198-runs in the 18th over in the final of the tournament.
● Pakistan had scored 197 for 8 in their 20 overs. The team had won the previous edition by defeating the same rivals in the final in 2012.
● India made to the finals with eight victories of the nine games. It lost its only match against Pakistan in the group stages at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi.
● Pakistan also ended as runners-up to India in the 2012 edition of the game. In 2012, which was the inaugural session of the tournament, India defeated Pakistan by 29 runs.
● Pakistan scored 197 for 8 in 20 overs. The main scorer was Badar Muni (57)
India scored 200/1 in 17.4 overs. Main scorers were Prakasha Jayaramaiah (99 not out), Ajay Kumar Reddy (43)

BAFTA 2017
The American musical-drama film ‘La La Land’ swept the top five awards at the 70th British Academy Film Awards, BAFTA.
● The film directed by Damien Chazelle had Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as the lead characters.
● The winning streak displayed by the film 'La La Land' up until BAFTA is expected to continue further, especially since it has 14, a record number of nominations at the upcoming 89th Academy Awards ceremony (Oscars) that is scheduled to be held on 26 February 2017.

Peugeot Buys 'Ambassador' for Rs. 80 crore
Hindustan Motors on 11 February 2017 sold out Ambassador car brand to French automaker Peugeot SA for Rs 80 crore.
● This deal will help Peugeot to enter into the Indian car market by using Hindustan Motors' existing manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu.
● In this regard, Hindustan Motors signed an agreement with Peugeot SA for the sale of the Ambassador brand including the trademarks for a consideration of Rs 80 crore.
● Since 1958, when the Ambassador, based on Britain’s Morris Oxford, started being manufactured in India, it was the emblem of high social standing.
● It was the first diesel car of India and was the longest produced auto brand that was manufactured between 1958 to 2014.
● Since 1958, there have been seven models of the Ambassador beginning with Mark 1 to Encore.
● The first Ambassador model costs Rs 14000 while the last one costs Rs 5 lakh.

BHIM App for iOS Launched
Indigenous digital payments app BHIM, which the government has developed for fast and secure cashless transactions, has been launched for the iOS platform.
● The Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) app was available on Android platform till now.
● On December 30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the BHIM app for fast and secure cashless transactions using mobile phones.
● BHIM is a platform designed to make payment through UPI and USSD modes simpler.
● Last month, IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the number of downloads for BHIM app has crossed the 1-crore mark.
● The BHIM app downloads, which have shot up in a matter of a few days, "show
how India is changing" with regard to adoption of digital payments and cashless transactions, the Minister had pointed out.
Digital payments channels like mobile wallets, USSD and RuPay have seen massive uptake and rise in transactions post demonetisation.
NATIONAL NEWS
Zoom Air to begin Commercial Operations from Feb 15
Zoom Air on Sunday flew its inaugural flight from the national capital and will start commercial operations from February 15.
● The CRJ 200 LR plane landed at the Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport, Durgapur, at 1339 hours, where it was accorded the traditional water canon salute.
● Zoom Air has become the 12th operational domestic carrier. The airline would start commercial services from February 15 with a flight to Durgapur via Kolkata from New Delhi.
● Promoted by Zexus Air Services, the carrier would also operate flights to Amritsar, Surat and Bhavnagar from Delhi in the first phase of its operations with a fleet of three dry-leased CRJ 200LR planes.
● Zoom Air's entry is expected to intensify competition in the domestic aviation market, which is seeing over 20 per cent growth over the last two years.
● Around Rs. 20 crore has been already invested in the carrier, he said, adding that the airline plans to raise Rs. 20-25 crore in 3-6 months, preferably through equity funding.

Feb 13 : World Radio Day
World Radio Day was celebrated across the world on 13 February 2017.
● Themed ‘Radio is You’, this year the day calls for a greater participation of both the audiences and communities in the policy and planning of radio broadcasting.
● Irina Bokova, the Director General of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), said that at such a time when turbulence is high in the society, radio provides an ideal platform to bring communities together.
● She further added by saying that radio, as a popular communication medium, is a force for human rights and dignity and also a powerful enabler of solutions to the challenges faced by the society.
● World Radio Day was celebrated for the first time in 2012, following its establishment during the UNESCO General Conference in the same year.
● It was later adopted by the United Nations General Assembly as an International Day.
● Every year, UNESCO commemorates the day by planning activities with organisations, broadcasters and communities from around the world.

Sand Artist Sudarsan’s new sand castle creates Guinness World Record
Sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik created a Guinness World Record on 10 February 2017 by sculpting a 48.8 feet tall sand castle at Odisha’s Puri beach.
● The world’s tallest sand castle carries a message of world peace and features sculptures of legendary leaders and preachers of peace such as Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and Gautama Buddha.
● Patnaik achieved the huge feat in just four days.
● He along with his 45 students started work on the sculpture on 7 February. They worked for nearly 12 hours a day.
● The artwork would be exhibited on the Puri beach for two more days.
● The official announcement about Patnaik’s feat was made by Guinness authorities in the presence of the state’s chief secretary Aditya Padhi and other senior officers.
● American artist Ted Siebert was the previous record holder. He had built a 13.97 metre high (45 10 feet) sand castle at Miami Beach, USA in 2015 in seven days.
● The 39-year-old Odisha-born sand artist is a Padma Shri awardee. He was conferred the prestigious award on 2014.
ECONOMY
RBI to set up separate Enforcement Department
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 8 February 2017 announced that a separate department would be set up to develop a sound framework and process for enforcement action.
● The proposed department is expected to further strengthen the banking structure and enhance the efficacy of the payment and settlement systems.
● The Enforcement Department will become operational on 1 April 2017.
● The Enforce Department (ED) will speed up regulatory compliance of banks.
● The ED will primarily deal with the issues related to penalties imposed on banks for violation of norms.
● At present, the penalties are decided by the banking and non-banking supervision departments of the Reserve Bank of India.
भारत ने पाकिस्तान को हराकर ट्वेंटी20 नेत्रहीन विश्व कप जीता
बेंगलुरु में 12 फरवरी 2017 को खेले गये ट्वेंटी20 नेत्रहीन विश्व कप के फाइनल मुकाबले में भारत ने पाकिस्तान को हराकर ख़िताब जीता. भारत ने दूसरी बार ट्वेंटी20 नेत्रहीन विश्व कप जीता.
● सलामी बल्लेबाज प्रकाश जयराम्मैया और कप्तान अजय कुमार रेड्डी की बल्लेबाजी की बदौलत भारतीय टीम ने चिर प्रतिद्वंदी पाकिस्तान को नौ विकेट से हराकर यह ख़िताब जीता.
● पाकिस्तान ने पहले बल्लेबाजी करते हुए बदर मुनीर के 57 रन की मदद से आठ विकेट पर 197 रन बनाये.
● जवाब में उतरी भारतीय टीम ने 17.4 ओवर में एक विकेट पर 200 रन बनाकर जीत दर्ज की.
● प्रकाश जयराम्मैया 99 रनों की नाबाद पारी की बदौलत मैन ऑफ़ द मैच रहे. अजय कुमार रेड्डी 43 रन बनाकर रन आउट हुए.
● दोनों खिलाड़ियों की साझेदारी की बदौलत भारतीय टीम इस लक्ष्य को पाने में सफल रही.
● पाकिस्तान की ओर से मोहम्मद जमील ने 24 और आमिर शफाक ने 20 रन बनाये.
● भारत की ओर से केतन पटेल और मोहम्मद जफर इकबाल ने दो-दो तथा अजय कुमार रेड्डी और सुनील ने एक-एक विकेट लिया.
बाफ्टा 2017
विश्व सिनेमा में ऑस्कर के बाद दूसरे सबसे प्रतिष्ठित पुरस्कार के रूप में प्रसिद्ध ब्रिटिश अकैडमी फिल्म अवॉर्ड्स (बाफ्टा) की 13 फरवरी 2017 को घोषणा की गयी. यह बाफ्टा पुरस्कारों का 70वां संस्करण है.
● यह समारोह लंदन के रॉयल अलबर्ट हॉल में आयोजित किया गया. ऑस्कर पुरस्कारों की ही तरह बाफ्टा में भी निर्देशक डेमियन शजेल की फिल्म 'ला ला लैंड' छाई रही.
● भारतीय मूल के अभिनेता देव पटेल को लायन के लिए सर्वश्रेष्ठ सहायक अभिनेता के पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया. गौरतलब हा कि देव पटेल डैनी बॉयल की फिल्म 'स्लम डॉग मिलियनियर' से प्रसिद्ध हुए थे.
● फिल्म 'ला ला लैंड' को सर्वश्रेष्ठ फिल्म और सर्वश्रेष्ठ अभनेत्री समेत पांच श्रेणियों में पुरस्कार मिले.

एम्बैसडर ब्रांड को पॉइजोट एसए ने 80 करोड़ में ख़रीदा
प्रसिद्ध एम्बैसडर ब्रांड को पॉइजोट के रूप में नया मालिक मिल गया है. यह ब्रांड सत्ता के गलियारे में अपनी पहचान रखता है.
● हिंदुस्तान मोटर्स ने इस ब्रांड को यूरोपीय वाहन कंपनी पॉइजोट को 80 करोड़ रुपए में बेच दिया है.
● सीके बिड़ला समूह की कंपनी ने इस बारे में पॉइजोट एसए के साथ करार किया है. फिलहाल एम्बैसडर कारों का विनिर्माण रोक दिया गया है.
● हिंदुस्तान मोटर्स ने शनिवार को शेयर बाजारों को भेजी सूचना में कहा, 'हिंदुस्तान मोटर्स ने एम्बैसडर ब्रांड की बिक्री के लिए पॉइजोट एसए से करार किया है. इसमें ट्रेडमार्क भी शामिल है. यह सौदा 80 करोड़ रुपए में हुआ है.'

● मालूम हो कि पिछले महीने पीएसए समूह ने भारतीय बाजार में प्रवेश करने के लिए सीके बिड़ला समूह के साथ डील की थी, जिसके तहत शुरुआत में करीब 700 करोड़ रुपये का निवेश किया जाना है.
● इस राशि से तमिलनाडु में मैन्युफैक्चरिंग प्लांट लगाया जाएगा. इस प्लांट में हर साल एक लाख वाहन बनाने की क्षमता होगी.
आईओएस के लिए भीम एप्प शुरू
नेशनल पेमेंट्स कॉरपोरेशन ऑफ इंडिया (एनपीसीआई) के जरिए लॉन्च किया गया डिजिटल पेमेंट ऐप भीम को अब आईओएस प्लेटफॉर्म के लिए भी लॉन्च कर दिया गया है.
● इस ऐप की मदद से लोग यूनिफाइड पेमेंट्स इंटरफेस के जरिए पैसों का लेन-देन कर सकते हैं.
● नीति आयोग के ट्वीट के मुताबिक आईओएस के लिए अब बहु-प्रतीक्षित 'भीम' ऐप स्टोर पर उपलब्ध है.
● ऐप्पल यूजर भीम ऐप डाउनलोड कर सकते हैं. अभी तक यह ऐप सिर्फ एंड्रॉयड यूजर के लिए ही उपलब्ध था. अब आईफोन यूजर भी इस ऐप का इस्तेमाल कर सकेंगे.
● भीम एंड्रॉयड ऐप में अब बेहतर सिक्योरिटी प्राइवेसी सेटिंग्स भी जोड़ी गई है. अब ओटीपी/ यूएसएसडी के जरिए मोबाइल रजिस्ट्रेशन करना भी संभव होगा. अपडेटेड भीम ऐप गूगल प्ले स्टोर पर मिलेगा.
● इंग्लिश और हिन्दी के अलावा अब इस ऐप को बंगाली, कन्नड़, गुजराती, मलयालम, उड़िया, तमिल और तेलुगू भाषा में भी इस्तेमाल किया जा सकता है.
● बता दें कि दिसंबर महीने में प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने मोबाइल के जरिए तेज और सुरक्षित कैशलेस ट्रांजेक्शन के लिए भीम ऐप को लॉन्च किया था.
जूम एयर 15 फरवरी से वाणिज्यिक परिचालन शुरू करने जा रहा है
यह कंपनी नई दिल्ली से कोलकाता होते हुए दुर्गापुर के लिए जल्द उड़ान भरेगी। जूम एयर का मुख्यालय गुड़गांव में बना है, इसके साथ ही यह देश के घरेलू विमानन बाजार में 12वीं परिचालन कंपनी होगी। जेक्सस हवाई सेवा प्रवर्तित वाहक की पहली फ्लाइट (उद्घाटन फ्लाइट) ने 12 फरवरी 2017 को उड़ान भरी थी।
● जूम एयर ने इसी महीने की शुरुआत में ऑपरेटर परमिट प्राप्त किया है। विमानन नियामक नागर विमानन महानिदेशालय (डीजीसीए) ने कंपनी को अखिल भारतीय संचालन की अनुमति दी है।
● जूम एयर के आने से घरेलू विमानन बाजार में प्रतिस्पर्धा तेज होगी। इस विमानन कंपनी की सीधी प्रतिस्पर्धा एयर इंडिया, जेट एयरवेज, विस्तारा, इंडिगो, स्पाइसजेट, गो एयर और एयर एशिया इंडिया से होगी।
● यह विमानन कंपनी शुरुआत में दिल्ली, कोलकाता, मुंबई और हैदराबाद जैसी राजधानियों में शुरुआती तौर पर अपनी सेवाएं देगी।
● यह कंपनी मौजूदा समय में शहरों के बीच दैनिक उड़ानों की पेशकश कर रही है। यह जानकारी कंपनी की आधिकारिक वेबसाइट पर दर्ज है।
● इन नई एयरलाइन की निगाह सालाना आधार पर 20 फीसद की ग्रोथ पर टिकी हुई है। यह कंपनी अगले 3 से 6 महीनों में 20 से 25 करोड़ रुपए की कमाई करना चाहती है।
● जूम एयर के निदेशक और मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी कौस्तुव मोहन धर ने बताया कि एयरलाइन में 20 करोड़ रुपए का निवेश किया गया है।
विश्व रेडियो दिवस मनाया गया
विश्वभर में 13 फरवरी 2017 को रेडियो दिवस मनाया गया. यह दिवस प्रत्येक वर्ष रेडियो की प्रासंगिकता तथा इसके मनोरंजन, संचार एवं सूचना के माध्यम के रूप में पहचान बनाये रखने के तौर पर मनाया जाता है.
● इस वर्ष इस दिवस के लिए ‘आप हैं रेडियो’ नामक विषय चुना गया था ताकि लोग सामुदायिक स्तर पर अधिक से अधिक भागीदारी एवं रूचि लें.
● इस अवसर पर संयुक्त राष्ट्र शैक्षिक, वैज्ञानिक और सांस्कृतिक संगठन (यूनेस्को) के महानिदेशक इरिना बोकोवा ने वक्तव्य जारी करते हुए कहा ऐसे समय में जब समाज में अशांति का बोलबाला है, रेडियो एक आदर्श मंच प्रदान करता है.
● इसके अतिरिक्त उन्होंने कहा कि रेडियो संचार का माध्यम होने के साथ-साथ लोगों के अधिकारों एवं मूल्यों का हितकर भी है. यह समाज में व्याप्त विभिन्न कठिनाइयों का समाधान भी प्रदान करता है.
● विश्व में पहली बार 2012 में विश्व रेडियो दिवस मनाया गया था. इसी वर्ष यूनेस्को द्वारा इसे मनाये जाने की घोषणा भी की.
सैंड आर्टिस्ट सुदर्शन के नए रेत के महल ने गिनीज वर्ल्ड रिकॉर्ड बनाया
10 फरवरी 2017 को सैंड आर्टिस्ट सुदर्शन पटनायक ने ओडीशा के पुरी तट पर 48.8 फीट लंबा रेत का महल बनाकर गिनीज वर्ल्ड रिकॉर्ड बनाया.
● दुनिया का सबसे उंचा यह रेत का महल विश्व शांति का संदेश दे रहा है और इसमें प्रसिद्ध नेताओं और शांति दूतों जैसे महात्मा गांधी, नेल्सन मंडेला और गौतम बुद्ध की आकृतियां उकेरी गईं हैं.
● पटनायक ने यह महल मात्र चार दिनों में तैयार किया है.
● अपने 455 छात्रों के साथ उन्होंने 7 फरवरी को काम करना शुरु किया था. उन्होंने एक दिन में करीब 12 घंटों तक काम किया.
● पुरी के तट पर इस कलाकृति को अभी दो दिन और प्रदर्शित किया जाएगा.
● पटनायक के रिकॉर्ड की घोषणा गिनीज के अधिकारियों ने राज्य के मुख्य सचिव आदित्य पाधी और अन्य वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों की उपस्थिति में की.
● इससे पहले यह रिकॉर्ड अमेरिका के कलाकार टेड सेईबर्ट के नाम था. उन्होंने 2015 में सात दिनों की मेहनत से अमेरिका के मियामी बीच पर 13.97 मीटर (45.10 फीट ) उंचा महल बनाया था.
● 39 वर्षीय और ओडीशा में जन्म लेने वाले सैंड आर्टिस्ट पटनायक पद्म श्री पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किए जा चुके हैं. वर्ष 2014 में उन्हें इस प्रतिष्ठित पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया था.
आरबीआई ने नयी समिति का गठन किया
भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक (आरबीआई) ने 8 फरवरी 2016 को साइबर सुरक्षा प्रणाली मजबूत करने के लिए एक समिति का गठन करने की घोषणा की.
● यह समिति साइबर बैंकिंग प्रणालियों के समक्ष खतरों की समीक्षा कर उनसे निपटने के उपाय सुझाएगी. इसमें विभिन्न क्षेत्रों के विशेषज्ञ होंगे.
● आरबीआई ने कहा कि बैंक साइबर हमलों से सुरक्षा हेतु अपनी चौकसी मजबूत कर रहे हैं फिर भी हाल में इस प्रकार के हमलों में प्रयोग किए गए नए नए तरीकों को देखते हुए साइबर सुरक्षा के परिदृश्य की लगातार समीक्षा करते रहने की जरूरत महसूस की गयी है.
● आरबीआई ने बताया कि इस उद्येश्य से साइबर सुरक्षा पर एक स्थायी समिति बनायी जा रही है जिसमें विभिन्न विधाओं के लोगों को रखा जाएगा.
● आरबीआई ने बैंकों को साइबर सुरक्षा के बारे मे पहले भी सावधान कर चुका है और इसके लिए आरबीआई ने दिशानिर्देश भी जारी किया हैं.
