National Mathematics Day observed on 22 December 2016
National Mathematics Day was observed on 22 December 2016 across India. The day marks the birth anniversary of Indian Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan.
● This observation was first introduced by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on 26 February 2012. The announcement was made at Madras University on the occasion of 125th birth anniversary of Ramanujan. The year 2012 was also observed as the National Mathematics Day.
● He was born on 23 December 1887 in a Tamil Brahmin Iyengar family in Erode, Madras Presidency in British rule. At present, Erode is a district of Tamil Nadu.
● He was an autodidact (self-taught person) who lived during the British Raj.
● His contributions in Mathematics include number theory, mathematical analysis, infinite series, and making formulas and equations.
● His discoveries in mathematics include Ramanujam Prime and Ramanujam theta. These discoveries also propelled further research on the subject.
● As a mathematician, he compiled some 3900 mathematical results and equations. Maximum of those equations’ and claims has been proven correct.
● He along with Godfrey Harold Hardy, a British Mathematician, discovered the smallest number represented as sum of two cubes 1729. This number is known as Hardy–Ramanujan number 1729.
● He was considered as a natural genius in mathematicians like Gauss and Euler.
● He died on 26 April 1920 at a young age of 32 years.
राष्ट्रीय गणित दिवस प्रत्येक वर्ष 22 दिसम्बर को महान गणितज्ञ श्रीनिवास अयंगर रामानुजन की स्मृति में मनाया जाता है.
● भारत के पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री डॉ. मनमोहन सिंह ने चेन्नई में महान गणितज्ञ श्रीनिवास अयंगर रामानुजन की 125वीं वर्षगांठ के अवसर पर आयोजित एक कार्यक्रम में श्रीनिवास रामानुजम को श्रद्धांजलि देते हुए वर्ष 2012 को राष्ट्रीय गणित वर्ष घोषित किया. गणितज्ञ श्रीनिवास रामानुजन के जन्मदिन 22 दिसंबर को राष्ट्रीय गणित दिवस भी घोषित किया गया.
● श्रीनिवास रामानुजन का जन्म 22 दिसम्बर 1887 को हुआ था.
● श्रीनिवास रामानुजन के गणित पर लिखे लेख तत्कालीन समय की सर्वोत्तम विज्ञान पत्रिका में प्रकाशित होते थे.
● रामानुजन ने इंग्लैण्ड में पाँच वर्षों तक मुख्यतः संख्या सिद्धान्त के क्षेत्र में काम किया.
● उन्होंने खुद से गणित सीखा और अपने जीवनभर में गणित के 3,884 प्रमेयों का संकलन किया.
● रामानुजन को ‘गणितज्ञों का गणितज्ञ’ भी कहा जाता है.
● रामानुजन की गणना आधुनिक भारत के उन व्यक्तितत्चों में की जाती है, जिन्होंने विश्व में नए ज्ञान को पाने और खोज़ने की पहल की.
● उन्होंने गणित की प्राइमरी परीक्षा में पुरे जिले में पहला स्थान प्राप्तह किया था.
● उन्हें वर्ष 1904 में उनके गणित में अतुल्य योगदान के लिये के.रंगनाथ राव पुरस्कार दिया गया था.
● इंग्लैंड की प्रसिद्ध संस्था ‘रायल सोसाइटी’ने वर्ष 1918 में रामानुजन को अपना फेलो बनाकर सम्मानित किया. वे इस सम्मान से सम्मानित होने वाले पूरे एशिया में पहले व्यक्ति थे.
● रामानुजन के संख्या-सिद्धान्त पर महत्वपूर्ण कार्य के लिए उन्हें 'संख्याओं का जादूगर' माना जाता है.
● रामानुजन को महान गणितज्ञ यूलर एवं गोस के समकक्ष माना जाता है.
● उनकी मृत्यु 26 अप्रैल 1920 को हुई थी. उस समय रामानुजन की आयु मात्र 33 वर्ष थी.
