Overview: A mentor-designed, exam-anchored IPMAT Indore 6 month study plan to crack IPMAT Indore 2027 with subject-wise focus, a week-by-week schedule, mock-test cadence, verified cut-off benchmarks, and the mistakes that quietly cost aspirants their seat.
Is 6 months enough for IPMAT preparation in 2027?
YES, six months is enough to crack IPMAT Indore 2027 if you begin around November 2026 and work backwards from the early-May exam.
The first two months building concepts in Quantitative Ability and Verbal Ability, the next two months on level-up practice and timed sectionals, and the final two months on full-length mocks, error analysis, and revision.
Target 6–8 full-length mocks before the last fortnight. Remember: IPMAT Indore tests only two subjects- Quant and Verbal- and applies strict sectional cut-offs, so balanced preparation matters more than a lopsided high score.

Most study plans fail for one reason: they're built around a calendar year, not the actual exam. IPMAT Indore is held in early May, so a genuine six-month plan starts in November, not January.
Get that anchor wrong and your mocks land after the exam.
The second reason plans fail is imbalance.
Because IPMAT Indore uses sectional cut-offs, you must independently clear the minimum in each of the three sections; a candidate who scores brilliantly in Quant but drops below the Verbal cut-off is rejected outright.
In 2026, only 838 candidates (General, EWS, and NC-OBC combined) were shortlisted for interviews.
This plan is deliberately built to keep all three sections above the threshold. Learn how the thresholds work in the IPMAT sectional cut-off calculation guide.
This roadmap works backwards from an early-May 2027 exam, so Month 1 = November 2026.
If you're starting later, don't panic; compress the concept-building months and protect the mock phase, because mocks and analysis are what actually move your score. Short on time?
Use the focused 90-day, 45-day, or one-month plans instead. Preparing over a longer horizon? See the one-year strategy or how to prepare from Class 11.
The six months fall into three phases:
Phase 1 (Months 1–2): Foundation concepts and pattern familiarity.
Phase 2 (Months 3–4): Application-level practice and timed sectionals.
Phase 3 (Months 5–6): Exam readiness- full mocks, analysis, revision.

This is where selection is usually decided. Lock in arithmetic, algebra, and number systems first, then geometry and modern maths.
Because the SA section carries no negative marking, attempt every SA question you can reason toward.
Start with the IPMAT maths preparation guide, the quantitative aptitude syllabus, and tips to improve your quant skills.
The single largest MCQ section at 45 questions, and the highest sectional cut-off every year.
RC accuracy and vocabulary carry it — read editorials daily and drill inference-based RC. See how to score above 100 in verbal, the verbal ability syllabus, and ways to boost your verbal score.
Unlike Rohtak, Indore has no standalone Logical Reasoning section — but reasoning-flavoured questions surface inside Quant and Verbal, so logical reasoning practice still pays off.
Don't build your Indore plan around a section that doesn't exist there.
A good book still matters for building fundamentals, especially in Quant. Browse our curated list here: IPMAT Books.

Marking scheme: +4 for every correct answer; –1 for a wrong answer in the two MCQ sections only. The Short Answer (SA) section has no negative marking a genuine scoring opportunity you should attempt fully.
Non-negotiables to internalise early:
Sections must be attempted in a fixed, pre-set order, identical for every candidate. You cannot revisit a completed section.
You must clear the sectional cut-off in each section (category-wise) to qualify for the Personal Interview.
IIM Indore does not publish the exact question count in advance, but the pattern has held steady across 2022–2026.
No calculators are permitted see is a calculator allowed in IPMAT.
For deeper detail, see the full IPMAT exam pattern, the IPMAT total marks breakdown, the marking scheme, and the IPMAT selection process.
To confirm you have no LR section to worry about, review how IPMAT Indore differs from Rohtak and the list of IPMAT subjects.

Cut-offs are released after the exam and shift year to year, but past data gives you concrete targets.
Below are the official 2026 General-category sectional cut-offs (source: IIM Indore, via the IPMAT Indore cut-off page):
|
Section |
2025 (General) |
2026 (General) |
What it tells you |
|
Quantitative Ability (SA) |
24 |
28 |
Treat SA as a full-attempt zone |
|
Quantitative Ability (MCQ) |
28 |
27 |
Roughly stable; accuracy over volume |
|
Verbal Ability (MCQ) |
113 |
111 |
Consistently the highest-stakes section |
A safe overall target for the General category is around 190–205+, with proportionately lower targets for reserved categories.
Reserved-category and year-wise trends are analysed in the IPMAT Indore cut-off analysis and the master IPMAT cut-off page. Benchmark your practice scores with the IPMAT score calculator.
Takeaway: Verbal carries the highest absolute threshold, so it cannot be treated as a "read-more" afterthought. Plan for it from Week 1.
Ignoring sectional cut-offs. A brilliant Quant score won't save you if Verbal falls below its threshold. Balance is survival, not strategy.
Starting mocks too late. Your first full mock belongs in Month 5, not the final week. Mocks train stamina and section-switching, not just knowledge.
Skipping analysis. A mock without a genuine review session is half-wasted. Track why each question was wrong, not just the score.
Over-attempting MCQs. With –1 negative marking, blind guessing bleeds marks. Be selective in MCQ sections; be bold in SA.
Treating Indore like Rohtak. Different structure, different sections — don't waste weeks on a standalone LR section Indore doesn't have.
More pitfalls are detailed in mistakes to avoid while preparing for IPMAT and myths about IPMAT.
IPMAT Indore isn't only a gateway to IIM Indore. Your score is accepted by several institutes, including IIM Ranchi, IIM Amritsar, IIM Shillong, IIM Sirmaur (BMS), IIFT Kakinada, and NALSAR.

Once results are out, the final 35% is decided in the interview — prepare with the IIM IPMAT interview questions guide and learn from toppers in the IPMAT AIR 1 interview and the AIR 3 success story.
Anchor to the exam, not the calendar. Count back from early-May 2027; start around November 2026.
Two subjects, three sections. Quant (MCQ + SA) and Verbal — no standalone LR in Indore.
Respect sectional cut-offs. Balanced prep beats a lopsided score; Verbal carries the highest threshold.
Protect the mock phase. Months 5–6 are for full mocks and analysis, not new theory.
Use negative marking wisely. Be selective in MCQs; attempt SA fully — it has no penalty.
You now have an exam-anchored, section-aware roadmap. The fastest way to test whether it's working is to establish a baseline today.
