discount10=profit5 ,,d/p=1/2

Question:

Cost price of 12 oranges is equal to the selling price of 9 oranges and the discount percentage on 10 oranges is equal to the profit percentage on 5 oranges. What is the percentage point difference between the profit percentage and discount percentage?

Options:
A) 20
B) 22.22
C) 16.66
D) 15
Solution:

Let C.P. of 1 orange = Rs. 1

∴ S.P. of 9 oranges = C.P. of 12 oranges = Rs. 12

∴ S.P. of 1 orange = \(\frac{12}{9}\) = \(\frac{4}{3}\)

∴ Profit = \(\frac{4}{3}\)  - 1 = \(\frac{1}{3}\)

∴ Profit =  \(\frac{1}{3}\) × 100% = 33.33%

Discount on 10 oranges = Profit on 5 oranges = \(\frac{5}{3}\)

∴ discount on 1 oranges =  \(\frac{5}{30}\) =  \(\frac{1}{6}\)

= 16.66%

∴ percentage point difference = 33.33% - 16.66%

= 16.66 %
