Who is Eligible for NIFT Counselling 2026?

To be eligible for the counselling procedure of the NIFT B.Des program of the participating institutes, an applicant must fulfil the following NIFT Eligibility Criteria.

For UG Candidates:

• Maximum age should be less than 24 years as of 1st August of the year of admission.
• The upper age limit may be relaxed by a period of 5 (five) years for candidates of Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Person with Disability (PWD) categories.

For PG Candidates:

• There is no age limit for PG candidates.

For UG Candidates

• You must obtain a rank in the NIFT 2026 entrance exam to be able to appear for NIFT counselling.
• You should have passed all subjects in the 10+2 qualifying examination in 2022 or 2026. Those who took their qualifying test for the first time in 2020 or before are ineligible.
• If you are from the Science Stream with Physics, Chemistry, and Maths as subjects, you are eligible to apply for a Bachelor of Fashion Technology and Bachelor of Design. 
• You can apply for a Bachelor of Design course from any other field (Science without Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Commerce, or Arts & Humanities).
• You should ensure that you are taking the qualifying examination (Class XII or equivalent) in 2026. 
  • All sections of your final examination are completed before the date of application for admission and
  • Proof of having passed the qualifying examination with the required eligibility is submitted to the admitting institute.
  • If a qualifying examination board only awards letter grades and does not include information on the passing grade on the grade sheet, you should get a certificate indicating the passing grade and upload it with the grade sheet.

For PG Candidates

• Undergraduate Degree in any discipline from any Institute/University recognized by law in India. Or an Undergraduate Diploma of a minimum of three years from NIFT/NID.
• For M.F.Tech - B.F.Tech. from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) or B.E/B.Tech. from any Institute / University recognized by law in India.

What is the NIFT Counselling Process for 2026?

After the declaration of the NIFT 2026 Result, you can register to participate in the counselling process of NIFT for the BDes program admissions.

Admission will be based on your rank in the NIFT 2026 Merit List. You can follow the procedure mentioned below to register for NIFT 2026 Counselling.

Step 1 - NIFT registration for counselling

How to register for NIFT counselling? 

• You need to register on the official website of NIFT, i.e., nift.ac.in.
• To register, you must provide the application number and date of birth.
• You must fill in all the necessary credentials, the Domicile state, and contact details.
• Once the registration is completed, a confirmation mail will be sent to the registered email. 
• The DOB, email ID, and password filled in at the time of registration will be used to log in and complete the registration.

Step 2 - Uploading Supporting Documents

After registration for NIFT counselling, you need to log in to your account and upload the required documents.

• For processing the application form, you must upload scanned copies of your signature, NIFT mark sheet, photograph, other educational documents, caste certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL Certificate, PwD Certificate, and OCI/PIO Card), etc.
• After uploading all documents, click on the 'Submit' tab.

Step 3 - Pay the NIFT Admission Fee

• You need to pay the admission fees after successfully registering and uploading documents.
• The admission fee for NIFT can be paid online, i.e., by net banking, debit card, credit card, wallet, or UPI.

Step 4 - Verification 

• After successful payment, your application will be sent for verification to NIFT.
• Once the application is processed and verified, you will receive a slot for the NIFT counselling process with a respected date and further instructions.
• Zoom meeting links will be sent to your registered mail ID.

Step 5 - Seat Allotment Request

You must attend the Zoom meeting per the NIFT authorities' schedule.

• NIFT counselling officials will show the seating chart as per your choice using the Screen Sharing feature of Zoom Meeting.
• Once you confirm your final choice, the official will allot that seat for you (per their CMR/request) and send it further to NIFT HO for approval.
• After approval, seats will be finally allotted to the candidate
• Candidates can download allotment letters from the registration portal.

Step 6 - Receive Allotment Letter

Once all the steps mentioned above are completed, authorities will issue an allotment letter or admission receipt duly signed by the Nodal Officer of the NIFT Campus.

You cannot alter the course/campus selected for admission once you receive an allotment letter.

What is the Reservation Policy for NIFT Counselling 2026?

The reservation of seats for NIFT counselling is as follows:

NIFT Seat Allotment Process 2026

How many rounds of counselling are there in NIFT?

Seats will be provisionally allotted based on your NIFT rank, category, and choice of institutes. You will receive provisional allocation letters via email and will be routed to an online payment mechanism to pay the Seat Acceptance Fee.

• Your application for NIFT counselling will be cancelled if you do not remit the seat acceptance fee before the deadline or decline admission. These vacant seats will be filled during the subsequent rounds of seat allotment. 
• If you are allotted your FIRST choice of institute, you can either accept ('freeze') it or decline the offer.
• If you choose to DECLINE the offer, you will NOT be considered for subsequent rounds. 
• If you choose the 'freeze' option, you have ACCEPTED the offer and do not wish to participate in further rounds of seat allocation. You will NOT be considered for subsequent rounds of admission. 
• If you choose the 'float' option, it means you have ACCEPTED the offer and have indicated that you will accept admission to an institute of your higher preference. Otherwise, you will continue with the currently accepted institute. You will be considered in subsequent rounds of admission. 
• For those who choose the 'float' option, allocating a seat in an institute of your higher preference would automatically result in the forfeiture of the seat you accepted in the earlier round. 
• You only have to remit the seat acceptance fee once. Thus, aspirants allotted another seat (because they chose the 'float' option) do not have to pay the seat acceptance fee again. 
• For those who accept offered seats, the seat acceptance fee will be adjusted against the admitting institute's fees at the time of joining.

NIFT Counselling Second Round 2026

The conducting body will schedule two to three rounds of seat allocation and one spot-round. Spot-round is conducted to fill any vacant seats remaining after the regular rounds. However, the seat allocation process will be closed once the seats are filled.

• Those admitted in the first counselling round and wishing to upgrade the allotted course and campus can sit for the second round.
• Those who applied for the first round but did not attend the counselling for NIFT 2026
• Those who participated in the first round were not interested in the college or course allotted during that round.
• Those who registered for 1st round but counselling was cancelled due to the non-availability of documents on a date.
• Those who qualified for the 1st round but couldn't register themselves.
• Those who got admission in the 1st round and have withdrawn admission before the display of vacant seats for round 2.
• To participate in the second round of NIFT counselling, you need to register and pay a non-refundable online payment of Rs 5000.

What Documents are Required for NIFT Counselling 2026?

You must carry the following self-attested documents without fail during the NIFT UG counselling process.

• Latest Photograph
