IPMAT previous year question papers are crucial for understanding question types, difficulty level, and topic weightage. But for IPMAT, they’re even more valuable read on to discover why they’re the key to cracking the exam.
IPMAT Indore, famously, does not reveal its exam pattern in advance. This means that students must rely on IPMAT previous year question papers of the entrance exam to understand the scope and structure of the IPM aptitude test.
In this article, we’re going to look at:
Let’s get started with the IPMAT Previous Year Question Paper with Answers:

Before checking the IPMAT Previous Year Question Papers, lets take an overview of it.
Here's how the IPMAT exam has evolved over the years:
In 2023, the IPMAT Indore exam had 90 questions, divided into 15 Quantitative Aptitude (Short Answer), 30 Quantitative Aptitude (MCQ), and 45 Verbal Ability questions. The QA (MCQ) section was moderate, QA (SA) was also moderate, while Verbal Ability was relatively manageable.
In 2024, the same 90-question structure continued, but the difficulty level increased slightly. QA (MCQ) moved from moderate to moderate-to-difficult, QA (SA) became easier compared to 2023, and Verbal Ability was moderate to easy.
In 2025, the exam pattern remained unchanged, but the overall paper was moderate to difficult. QA (MCQ) was more challenging and calculation-intensive, QA (SA) ranged from easy to moderate, and Verbal Ability tested students through vocabulary, reading comprehension, and inference-based questions.
In 2026, IIM Indore again retained the same 90-question format, but the paper was comparatively more manageable than 2025. QA (SA) was easy, QA (MCQ) was moderate and slightly time-consuming, while Verbal Ability was easy to moderate.
Overall, the IPMAT Indore exam pattern remained consistent from 2023 to 2026, while the difficulty level fluctuated. Among these years, 2025 was relatively tougher, whereas the 2026 paper was more manageable for students.

Students often confuse these three. Each has a distinct job in your preparation — using them in the right order is what separates efficient prep from wasted effort.
| Resource | What it is | Best used for | When to use |
|---|---|---|---|
| IPMAT PYQ (Previous Year Paper) | Actual past exam paper | Understanding real difficulty & repeat topics | Throughout prep; benchmark tool |
| IPMAT Mock Test | Fresh, pattern-matched full test | Exam simulation, speed, stamina, new variations | Every 1–2 weeks in the last 3 months |
| IPMAT Sample Paper | Practice set modelled on the pattern | Extra topic practice with varied questions | Early and mid-prep |
Simple rule: Use IPMAT sample papers to build topics, PYQs to understand the real exam, and mock tests to rehearse exam day. You need all three — not one alone.
Use the table below to benchmark your practice-paper scores against real IPMAT Indore sectional cutoffs. Remember: IPMAT Indore requires you to clear each section individually, not just the overall score.
| Section | 2026 | 2025 | 2024 | 2023 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Quant (SA) | 28 | 24 | 24 | 12 |
| Quant (MCQ) | 27 | 28 | 35 | 39 |
| Verbal Ability | 111 | 112 | 113 | 125 |
How to use this: When you solve an older PYQ (e.g. 2023), don't just check your overall score — check whether you'd have cleared that year's sectional cutoff too. A strong overall score with one weak section wouldn't have converted into a call that year.
Year-wise difficulty, based on toppers' reviews and expert assessment. "Good attempts" indicates the number of questions a strong candidate typically solves accurately.
| Year | QA (SA) | QA (MCQ) | Verbal Ability | Overall | Good Attempts |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2019 | Moderate | Moderate | Easy | Easy–Moderate | 65–72 |
| 2020 | Moderate | Moderate | Easy–Moderate | Moderate | 42–48 |
| 2021 | Moderate | Moderate | Moderate | Moderate | 40–46 |
| 2022 | Moderate | Moderate | Moderate | Moderate | 60–65 |
| 2023 | Moderate | Moderate | Moderate | Moderate | 58–65 |
| 2024 | Easy | Moderate–Difficult | Easy–Moderate | Moderate | 60–68 |
| 2025 | Moderate | Moderate–Difficult | Easy–Moderate | Moderate | 56–64 |
| 2026 | Moderate | Moderate–Difficult | Moderate | Moderate–Difficult | 52–60 |
Good-attempt ranges for 2020 and 2021 are lower because those years had only 60 questions.
Always read scores in the context of that year's total. For deeper year-wise breakdowns, see IPMAT Question Paper Analysis & Solutions.
After analysing IPMAT Previous Year Papers from 2019–2026, these are the topic-wise frequency trends. Prioritise the high-frequency topics first.

Solving the previous year question paper of IPMAT Indore is a great way to learn more about the expectations of the exam.
Even better, you learn how to enhance your preparation to achieve it. But that’s not all.
There are a lot of ways this practice can benefit you:
So there you have it, folks. Practicing with previous year sample paper of IPMAT is the way to go if you want to ace the IPMAT exam.
Get practicing and you'll be well on your way to success!
Simply solving an IPMAT previous year question paper and checking your score is not enough. The real improvement happens when you review your attempt, understand your mistakes, and work on them before solving the next paper.
Here’s a practical way to use IPMAT previous year papers effectively:
Create proper exam-like conditions before you begin. Set a timer and follow the sectional time limit of 40 minutes. Keep your phone away, avoid breaks, and try to complete the paper exactly as you would on exam day.
This will give you a much clearer picture of your current speed, accuracy, and time management.
Once you finish the paper, calculate your score using the applicable marking scheme. For sections with MCQs, account for negative marking wherever applicable, while Short Answer questions generally do not carry negative marks.
You can also use the IPMAT Score Calculator to estimate your score and compare your performance with the cut-off for that year.
Don’t just mark a question as incorrect and move ahead. Try to identify the actual reason behind every mistake.
Was the concept unclear? Did you make a calculation or reading error? Or did you know how to solve it but run out of time?
Once you know the reason, it becomes much easier to fix the problem.
Maintain a simple error log while analysing each IPMAT question paper.
If the mistake was conceptual, revise that topic again. If it was a careless mistake, note what went wrong so you do not repeat it. If you spent too much time on a difficult question, work on choosing questions more carefully. You can also learn more about the art of skipping to improve your question-selection strategy.
After working on your weak areas, come back to the questions you previously got wrong or skipped. Try solving them again without looking at the solution.
A useful preparation cycle is:
Attempt → Analyse → Revise → Re-attempt
Following this process regularly will help you improve your accuracy, speed, and confidence with every IPMAT previous year paper you solve.
Solving IPMAT previous year papers only helps if you avoid these frequent mistakes:
Expert Tip: After every PYQ, write down one specific fix for next time not "practice more algebra," but "review AP/GP formula sheet before next mock." Vague resolutions don't change scores; specific ones do.
When practising IPMAT previous year papers, it is better to start with the most recent papers and then move backwards. This helps you first get familiar with the latest question style, difficulty level, and exam structure.
Ideally, start including previous year papers in your preparation around 3–4 months before the exam .
During the final two months, you can aim to solve one full IPMAT question paper every week . As the exam gets closer, increase the frequency based on your preparation level. In the final two weeks, attempting a paper every 2–3 days can help you improve your exam strategy and time management.
Make sure you analyse each attempt instead of simply moving to the next paper. You can also follow a structured IPMAT study plan to balance PYQs with revision, mocks, and topic-wise practice.
Following IPMAT Maths Preparation Tips can help clear all your basics and help plan your preparations wisely.
