The NID DAT 2027 result will be released online at admissions.nid.edu, after the Prelims is concluded (most probably in December 2026). The results are expected in February-April 2027 (M.Des Prelims first, then B.Des).
You can check it using your registered email ID and date of birth. Major changes were announced in the 2026 cycle, the Prelims became a qualifier only round (0% weightage) - your final rank will be decided entirely by the DAT Mains (B.Des- Studio Sensitivity 60% + In-Person Sensitivity 40%; M.Des: Studio Test 40% + Interview 60%).
Plus, only 1.5 times the total seats (B.Des) are shortlisted for the Mains per category.

When your NID DAT 2027 result is declared, the scorecard will typically display:

Reading your scorecard: the line that matters most is "Shortlisted for Mains: Yes/No." Your Prelims marks and category rank will only indicate how close you were to the cutoff, but they have no significance as they are not counted in the final result. So, if your Prelims scorecard says "Yes," immediately get on to Studio Test and interview prep.

M.Des applicants should also prepare their NID statement of purpose (SOP).
For both B.Des and M.Des, DAT Prelims is used only for shortlisting candidates for DAT Mains. The final merit is prepared using DAT Mains components as per the admissions handbook on the NID official website.
| Programme | Final Merit Is Based On | DAT Mains Weightage Breakdown | Eligibility Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| B.Des | 0% DAT Prelims | 100% DAT Mains (Studio Sensitivity Test + In-Person Sensitivity Test) | Studio Sensitivity Test: 60% In-Person Sensitivity Test: 40% |
Only candidates who appear for both DAT Mains components are considered for the merit list. |
| M.Des | 0% DAT Prelims | 100% DAT Mains (Studio Test + Interview) | Studio Test: 40% Interview: 60% |
Only candidates who appear for Studio Test & Interview are eligible for the final merit list. |
Important: DAT Prelims score is used only for shortlisting and is not carried forward as weightage to the DAT Mains stage.
Since 2026, NID announced a transparent shortlisting formula based purely on DAT Prelims merit:
|
Programme |
Candidates called for Mains |
|
B.Des |
1.5× the NID seats in each category |
|
M.Des |
A larger ratio (~4.5× the seats) - confirm in the handbook |
Several major changes were announced in NID DAT exam pattern and shortlisting process in 2026 that are likely to be carried forward in 2027 as well. Under the revised tie-break rule, if multiple candidates score same as the last shortlisted candidate in Prelims, all of them will be shortlisted for the next stage, i.e. DAT Mains.
In case of final merit list though, ties will be resolved as per the official rules mentioned in the B.Des & M.Des Admissions Handbooks (discussed later in the article).

The NID DAT result merit list 2027 ranks candidates based on:
From the total number of applicants who have appeared for DAT, the number of candidates to be called for Stage 2 of the exam will be calculated as 1.5 N where ‘N’ stands for the number of seats in that category for that program or discipline.
The final merit list is what decides admission to the NID campuses.
The tie-breaker policy in NID DAT Prelims is applied when two or more candidates score the same total marks in the DAT Prelims.
To ensure fairness, NID follows a structured set of rules that prioritize performance in specific sections before other criteria like age or application number.
Below is the program-wise tie-breaker policy for B.Des and M.Des as per the NID Admission Handbook:
If two or more candidates obtain the same total marks in NID DAT Prelims, the following rules are applied in order:
|
Order of Preference |
Tie-Breaking Criteria (B.Des Prelims) |
|
1. |
Candidate with higher marks in Part B (Creative Ability Test) will be ranked higher. |
|
2. |
If the tie persists, candidate with higher marks in Part A (General Ability Test) will be ranked higher. |
|
3. |
If the tie still remains, the older candidate (by date of birth) will be given a higher rank. |
Example: If two candidates score 70 marks each in total, the one with a higher Part B (Creative Aptitude) score will rank above the other.
For M.Des Prelims, where the paper may contain discipline-specific sections, the tie-breaker rules are slightly different.
|
Order of Preference |
Tie-Breaking Criteria (M.Des Prelims) |
|
1. |
Candidate with higher marks in the Discipline-Specific Section of the DAT Prelims will be ranked higher. |
|
2. |
If the tie still remains, candidate with higher marks in the Common Section will be ranked higher. |
|
3. |
If a tie persists even after this, the older candidate (by date of birth) will be given preference in ranking. |
Note: In case two candidates have the same total score and identical sectional scores, the ranking will be determined by age - the elder candidate will be ranked higher.
Key Insight for Aspirants
If two or more candidates achieve identical total scores in the final NID DAT B.Des result, the following rules are applied sequentially to determine ranking:
|
Order of Preference |
Tie-Breaking Criteria (B.Des Final Merit) |
|
1. |
Candidate with higher marks in the DAT Mains (Studio Test) will be ranked higher. |
|
2. |
If the tie still remains, candidate with higher marks in the DAT Prelims Part B (Creative Ability Test) will be ranked higher. |
|
3. |
If a tie persists, the candidate with higher marks in DAT Prelims Part A (General Ability Test) will be ranked higher. |
|
4. |
If all above are identical, the older candidate (by date of birth) will be given preference in ranking. |
Example: If two candidates both score 145/200 overall, but Candidate A scores 80 in Studio Test while Candidate B scores 78, Candidate A ranks higher.
For the M.Des programme, where each discipline has its own Studio Test and Interview, NID follows a discipline-specific tie-breaker sequence.
|
Order of Preference |
Tie-Breaking Criteria (M.Des Final Merit) |
|
1. |
Candidate with higher marks in the DAT Mains (Studio Test + Interview) for that discipline will be ranked higher. |
|
2. |
If a tie still exists, candidate with higher marks in the Discipline-Specific Section of the DAT Prelims will be ranked higher. |
|
3. |
If still tied, candidate with higher marks in the Common Section of the DAT Prelims will be ranked higher. |
|
4. |
If a tie persists after all above, the older candidate (by date of birth) will be ranked higher. |
Example: If two M.Des candidates secure the same combined total, the one with better Studio Test + Interview performance will take precedence.

The total marks in Mains are 100.
Candidates scoring 55 marks or above will be included in the final merit list, while those below 55 will not be considered, even if they performed strongly in Prelims.
