Constitutional Law has consistently accounted for roughly 50-60% of CLAT PG papers over the last three years. Therefore, prioritize Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles, and Emergency Provisions early.  

These three sub-topics alone typically generate 15-20 questions. Make sure you are well prepared for the important topics for CLAT PG 2027.  

Other Law Subjects  

Contract Law, Torts, Criminal Law (including key IPC concepts), International Law, IPR, and Jurisprudence collectively account for the remaining ~40–50%.  

Once Constitutional Law is solid, split your remaining time across these based on how heavily each has appeared in past papers. Contract Law and Torts together have historically made up a meaningful share of this bucket.

Understanding the Marking Scheme as Per CLAT PG Exam Pattern 2027 

Here's how the marking scheme for CLAT PG exam works according to the updated exam pattern.  

• Positive Marking: You earn one full mark per correct answer. Answer 80 of 120 correctly, and you've earned 80 marks before any deductions. 
• Negative Marking: Every wrong answer costs 0.25 marks. 10 wrong answers = a 2.5-mark deduction (10 × 0.25). 
• No Penalty for Skipping: Unattempted questions are scored at zero; neither rewarded nor punished. Skipping 30 questions you're unsure about doesn't hurt your score beyond the marks you'd have earned by answering them correctly. 

If you can eliminate two of four options with confidence. This math favours attempting the question:  

• A 50/50 guess has an expected value of (+1 × 0.5) + (-0.25 × 0.5) = +0.375 marks, which is positive.  
• Pure random guessing across four options, on the other hand, carries a negative expected value and should be avoided.  

How Did the CLAT PG Exam Pattern Change After 2020?  

Before the 2020 pattern revision, CLAT PG combined 100 objective MCQs (1 mark each) with two subjective essays (25 marks each).  

This year's pattern is fully objective:120 MCQs, no essay writing component.
