Gujarat Judiciary Eligibility Criteria 2026

Educational Qualification

  • You must hold a degree in law from any recognised university by Indian law and practice as an advocate in courts of civil or criminal jurisdiction on the submission date of the last online application form. (or)
  • If you passed the Law Degree in 2011-2024 and onwards, you must have also taken the All India Bar examination to be eligible for the Gujarat Civil Judge Exam 2026. (or)
  • You must work in the Courts or other Allied Departments on the last date fixed to receive applications. (or)
  • Also, you must have a basic knowledge of Computer Applications from a government institute or any other recognised institute.

Age Limit

  • As per the notification, your age should be below 35 years if you belong to the general category to apply for the Gujarat Civil Judge Exam 2026.
  • For the SC/ST category, the maximum age limit is 38 years.
  • If you work in the Courts or other Allied Departments, your age should not exceed 40 years.

Gujarat Judiciary Application Form 2026

To avoid any discrepancies, you must complete the Gujarat Judiciary Application Form on or before the last date.

  • Now, re-login to the portal using your application number and date of birth and upload your signature and photograph.
  • Before final submission, you can preview the online form by clicking on the "Edit Application" icon. You cannot change the registration form once you click the "confirm application" button.
  • After clicking on the confirmation icon, you will receive an SMS to your registered mobile number.
  • The final step is fee payment, which can be made online or offline. Keep the fee receipt for your reference to avoid any discrepancies in the future.
  • Take a printout of the application form on A4-size paper and save it for future reference.

Gujarat Civil Judge Exam Fee 2026

Fees of the Gujarat High Court Civil Judge Exam depend on your category. If you belong to the general classification, you must pay Rs . 1,000 and other bank charges for the exam.

The application fee is Rs. 500 if you belong to a scheduled tribe, scheduled caste, a physically disabled person, educationally or socially backwards classes, veterans, etc. 

A separate payment section lets you pay the fee through SBI e-Pay by clicking on the "Pay fee" option.

Gujarat Judiciary Exam Admit Card 2026

A call letter is a mandatory thing you must carry to the exam hall without fail. The Gujarat Judicial Services Commission will release the admit card two weeks before the exam.

Note that any disparity/discrepancy in the details mentioned in the admit card and the ones provided during registration will result in the cancellation of your candidature.

Gujarat Judiciary Preliminary Exam Pattern 2026

The Preliminary Examination of the Gujarat Judiciary will be objective.

  • Paper –1 (Law) 
  • Paper – 2 (Test of Gujarati Language) 
  1. Prelims question paper 1 consists of 100 questions, and each question carries one mark. 
  2. There is a negative marking of 0.33 for each wrongly answered question.  
  3. The duration of the preliminary paper 1 is 2 hours. 
  4. You must score a minimum of 50% marks in the prelims exam to get shortlisted for the mains examination. 
  5. Prelims question paper 2 consists of 50 questions. 
  6. The duration of the prelims paper 2 is half an hour. 

Gujarat Judiciary Mains Exam Pattern 2026

The Gujarat Judiciary mains examination consists of two papers:

  • Paper 1: Criminal
  • Paper 2: Civil

Papers 1 and 2 shall carry 100 marks each, and the duration is 3 hours. 

You can take papers one and two, either in English or Gujarati. You have to secure a minimum of 50% marks in the mains exam to get shortlisted for the viva-voce.

Viva Voce Test (Oral Interview)

The viva voce shall carry 50 marks. The main objective of the Interview is to assess your suitability for the cadre by judging the knowledge of the Law, the balance of judgment, mental alertness, clear and logical exposition, attitude, skills, ethics, power of communication, power of assimilation, and intellectual depth.

You need to score at least 40% marks in this test to get selected for the Civil Judge post in Gujarat.

  • To be eligible for the preliminary exam, you must score at least 50% marks for the main examination. However, the commission will not consider the marks obtained in the prelims exam while preparing the final merit list.
  • The computer shall evaluate all the entries of the preliminary examination paper.
  • The High Court does not entertain any queries related to rechecking the OMR sheet, as all the evaluations are done by computer scanning without human intervention.
