Salary Structure of Civil Judges in India 2022

Civil Judge is considered a highly respectable profession in society. It is the most rewarding career in terms of financial benefit and a sense of fulfillment in helping the citizens of society. The job of Civil Judge is a more recognized job than IAS in India. This is one of the main reasons most law aspirants choose the Judiciary as a career after completion of graduation. 

In February 2020, the Second National Judicial Service Commission issued a revised pay for all the judicial officers in the lower judiciary, which introduced salary pay that was three times the current salary.

However, the civil judge salary in India varies from state to state based on various considerations such as the state, educational qualification, etc.

Civil Judge Salary/District Judge Salary Structure 2022

As said above, students appearing for the Judiciary Exams are increasing exponentially every year, as it is one of the highest paying state government services. 

The Civil Judge is responsible for dealing with civil cases and criminal cases. He can deal with both types of cases, like an appeal from District Munsif and other Original Petitions under Special Acts. Check the salary of civil judge junior division from below.

• At an entry-level, the Supreme Court judge gets a salary of Rs. 28,000, whereas the Junior Civil Judge's salary will be Rs. 12,000 per month. 
• The Senior Division Civil Judge draws a salary of Rs. 21,000 per month, and the Super Time Scale judge will get a salary of Rs. 24,000 per month.

Pay Scale

The District Judge holds the highest position in City Civil courts or district courts. The salary of a civil judge in India under the Junior Division is less compared with the salary of the High Court or Supreme Court judge.

• After the implementation of the 7th pay commission for the judiciary, the district judge's salary has been set to Rs. 28,000 per month.
• The civil judge junior division salary in UP is 12,000 per month, whereas the senior-level civil judge draws a salary of Rs. 21,000 per month.
• As per the salary of the Civil Judge Junior Division, the District Judge with Super Time Scale earns Rs. 24,000 per month.

Grade Pay

According to the National Judicial Pay Commission, the salary of the Civil Judge Junior Division is fixed, and they will not be provided with any grade pay.

Allowances

The District Judge salary includes fewer allowances than High Court and Supreme Court judges. The allowance or facilities given to a Civil Judge (Junior Division) are as follows.

High Court Judge Salary Structure 2022

The High Court judges are appointed by the President after discussion with the Chief Justice of India and Governor of the Concerned State. Being a High Court judge, one has the power to examine civil and criminal matters.

• The basic pay scale of the high court judge is Rs. 80,000 per month.
• The minimum basic pay scale of the high court judge will be Rs. 26,000, and an experienced judge will get a salary up to Rs. 45,000, including grade pay and allowances.
• The senior judge will get a salary of Rs. 80,000 per month, including allowances and perks.

The minimum basic pay scale of the high court judge starts from Rs. 26,000, and on average, he draws a salary of Rs. 80,000 per month, including allowances and perks. 

Grade Pay

As per the PCS J Salary Structure, the grade pay of the High Court judge will be more than Rs. 20,000 per month, and it also depends on the years of experience.

• The grade pay of the High Court judge starts from Rs. 12,000 and can go up to Rs 20,0000 depending on the experience of the concerned judge.
• A person must have minimum years of experience to get the maximum grade pay.

Allowances

Apart from the salary, the High Court judge is entitled to get many other allowances and perks, and those are as follows.

Supreme Court Judge Salary Structure 2022

The Chief Justice of India and the judges of the Supreme Court are appointed by the president. The Supreme Court judge draws a salary of Rs.90,000 per month, including basic salary, allowances, and perks.

Difference Between Civil Judge and Session Judge

There are a total of three categories of judges in the Subordinate Judiciary in India.

The judge will be referred to as District Judge when he is dealing with civil cases, and while sitting in criminal cases, he will be referred to as Sessions Judge.
