The UCEED 2016 question paper was the second-ever UCEED, conducted by IIT Bombay on 17 January 2016. It was a fully objective, computer-based test of 300 marks in 3 hours, with 80 questions across three sections - 20 NAT (Numerical Answer Type), 20 MSQ (Multiple Select), and 40 MCQ (Multiple Choice).
There was no Part B drawing section in 2016 (that was added in 2020). Because IIT Bombay officially releases its papers, the UCEED 2016 question paper PDF and answer key are genuine - Creative Edge provides them with step-by-step solutions.

Yes. Unlike some design entrances, UCEED papers are officially released by IIT Bombay after each exam, along with the answer key. So the UCEED Question Paper 2016 you practice from is the genuine paper - not a memory-based reconstruction.
UCEED 2016 was a single computer-based paper of 300 marks, split into three objective sections:

Two things stand out:
For the current rules, cross-check the UCEED marking scheme and UCEED exam pattern.
UCEED 2016 tested aptitude and observation, not rote learning. Here's the section-wise flavor:
|
Section |
What UCEED 2016 Focused On |
|
NAT (Q1-20) |
Spatial/3D counting, geometry and visual maths - e.g., counting the surfaces of a merged solid, water-flow logic through a drilled cube |
|
MSQ (Q21-40) |
Multi-answer reasoning and awareness - e.g., true/false statement sets on the Silk Route, data-interpretation on populations |
|
MCQ (Q41-80) |
Visual reasoning, pattern and view identification, observation and design-oriented GK |
Practice the highest-frequency type → Most Important UCEED NAT Questions
NAT:
Q. A pyramid with a base side 6 cm and height 7 cm is merged with a cube of length 5 cm such that the centroid of the cube matches with the centre of the base of the pyramid. The base of the pyramid is parallel to the base of the cube and the edges of the base of the pyramid are parallel to the sides of the cube. Count the number surfaces in the resulting solid.
Ans: 19
Q. Holes have been drilled through a cube of size 10 x 10 x 10 units, as shown in the figure below. The number near each hole indicates its depth in units. All holes, except A, B, C, D and P, have been sealed on the surface after drilling. If water is poured through hole P, from which of the holes A, B, C, D will it find its way out?

Ans: ABD
MSQ:
Q. Select all statements about the Silk Route that are TRUE:
Ans: B, C
Q. Given below is a structure made of colored straws. Which of the views shown in the options belong(s) to the object in the box?

Ans: A,B,C
MCQ:
Q. A polygonal shape moves through a series of numbered tiles as shown in the figure. The shape transforms itself at every tile according to rules given below. There can be one or more transformations on any given tile. Choose the resultant polygon from the options below.

Ans: D
Notice the pattern- nearly every question is solve-it-in-your-head visual logic. That's why UCEED preparation leans on visualization and spatial-ability practice far more than memorization.

By today's standards, UCEED 2016 sits at easy-to-moderate - the early UCEED papers were less trap-heavy than recent years, but it was far from a giveaway:
|
Section |
Difficulty |
Where Students Lost Marks |
|
NAT |
Moderate |
Miscounting surfaces/edges; negative marking punished rushed guesses |
|
MSQ |
Moderate-Hard |
All-or-nothing scoring; one wrong tick wiped the whole 5 marks |
|
MCQ |
Easy-Moderate |
Careless observation errors and −1 penalties on tricky visual sets |
The real difficulty wasn't the concepts - it was decision-making under negative marking. Strong scorers weren't the ones who attempted everything; they were the ones who knew when to leave a risky MSQ blank.
This is the single most important thing to understand before you practice the 2016 paper. In 2016, UCEED was entirely objective - just Part A (NAT + MSQ + MCQ). The Part B drawing section was introduced only in 2020, and a design-aptitude question was added to Part B later still.
|
Era |
Structure |
Drawing? |
|
2015–2019 (incl. 2016) |
Part A only (NAT + MSQ + MCQ) |
No |
|
2020 onwards |
Part A (objective) + Part B (drawing) |
Yes |
|
2024 onwards |
Part B expanded (drawing + design aptitude) |
Yes |
So what does this mean for a 2027 or 2028 aspirant? Use the UCEED 2016 Question Paper pdf as a Part A workout - it's excellent for NAT visualization, MSQ reasoning and MCQ observation.
But you'll need separate practice for Part B drawing, which 2016 simply doesn't contain. Build that with the UCEED sketching questions and recent Part B prompts, and track the format shift on the UCEED exam analysis page.
Downloading the paper is step one; the method is what moves your rank:
|
Day |
What to Do |
Why |
|
1 |
Attempt Part A (all 80 questions) in one timed 3-hour sitting |
Builds real CBT stamina and pacing |
|
2 |
Re-solve every NAT question without the key; note counting/geometry slips |
NAT visualization is the highest-ROI skill |
|
3 |
Review MSQs: mark which you'd have left blank under negative marking |
Trains scoring discipline, not just knowledge |
|
4 |
Batch the spatial/view MCQs and time them |
Speed on visual reasoning wins UCEED |
|
5 |
Compare your reasoning with the solved key, question by question |
Learn the method, not the answer |
|
6 |
List your weak topics and drill them separately |
Targeted practice beats random solving |
|
7 |
Re-attempt your 15 weakest questions |
Measures real improvement |
Pair this with the UCEED syllabus so you know which 2016 topics still map to the current exam.
|
Mistake |
Why It Hurts |
Do This Instead |
|
Guessing MSQs |
One wrong tick zeros the whole 5 marks |
Attempt an MSQ only when confident of every option |
|
Ignoring negative marking |
−1 penalties quietly sink your net score |
Skip low-confidence NAT/MCQs deliberately |
|
Rushing surface/figure counts |
A single miscount fails an otherwise solvable NAT |
Recount slowly; sketch the 3D form on rough paper |
|
Treating 2016 as a full mock |
It has no Part B, so it's only half your real exam |
Use it for Part A; practice drawing separately |
|
Solving once and moving on |
You only improve on the re-attempt |
Solve, analyze, re-solve after a week |
|

The UCEED 2016 question paper is a genuine, official paper and a strong Part A practice tool - as long as you use it for what it is: pure objective aptitude, with no drawing. Solve it timed, respect the negative marking, learn the reasoning behind each NAT and spatial question, and build Part B separately.
