Seven Questions to Ask Before Buying Any CAT Exam Course

Use these on us and on every competitor. A provider who cannot answer them in writing is telling you something.

1. How many full-length mocks, and how many sectional tests, in this specific batch?
   Not "300+ tests" across a product range. The number in the batch you are buying.
2. When does my recording access expire?
   If it ends before the exam, the recordings are decorative. Get the date in writing.
3. What is the batch size, and how do doubts actually get resolved?
   "24×7 support" can mean a live room or a forum where nobody replies. Ask which.
4. Who teaches my section, and what is their own score?
   Then ask whether that person teaches your batch, or only appears in marketing.
5. What does the mock analysis report actually show me?
   Percentile alone is nearly useless. You want accuracy, time-per-question, sectional rank and difficulty-adjusted performance.
6. What happens if I fall behind by three weeks?
   Every aspirant does. The answer reveals whether the programme has a recovery path or just a schedule.
7. What is the refund policy, in days and in writing?
   Check it before you pay, not after.

Five Red Flags When Comparing CAT Exam Courses

• Guaranteed percentile or guaranteed admission. No provider can guarantee either. CAT is relatively scored against 2.5 lakh-plus candidates, and IIM shortlists weight academics, work experience and diversity alongside your percentile.
• Selection numbers without a year. "500 selections" means nothing undated. Ask which cycle.
• Percentile presented as conversion. A student scoring 99.5 has not necessarily converted an IIM. These are two different outcomes and honest providers report them separately.
• Aggregate test counts across unrelated products. "400+ mock tests" usually means the vendor added up everything they sell. See question 1 above.
• Fee ranges with no source. If a page quotes market prices without attribution, treat the entire page's data with suspicion.

What a CAT Course Cannot Do for You

This is the part most coaching pages omit, and it is the most useful part.

It cannot create study hours. A 310-hour programme assumes you attend and then practise between sessions. If you can realistically protect 12 hours a week, buy for 12 hours a week, not for the version of yourself who intends to find 25.

It cannot fix a reading problem quickly. VARC responds to months of dense reading more than to technique. If your reading speed and comprehension are weak, start reading now, independently of whichever course you choose.

It cannot analyse mocks for you. The analytics report tells you what happened. Working out why - wrong question selection, a concept gap, panic in the last ten minutes - is your job, and it is where percentile actually moves. It cannot decide whether you should do an MBA. If you are unsure, the honest advice is to postpone the purchase and resolve that question first.

If any of this makes a course sound less necessary, good. You should buy one because it closes a gap you have identified, not because everyone else is buying one.
