GATE is an entrance exam for admission in Master’s Degree and Ph.D. level Programmes of science and technology. The authority has released the GATE notification 2020 regarding the exam and other important events date. Candidates appearing for the exam must take proper note of everything. 

What is GATE?

The GATE exam is an online examination that is conducted to take admission into a Master’s Degree in Engineering and Technological Disciplines along with Ph.D. level courses. The admissions are granted in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and other institutes/universities across India.

The examination is undertaken together by different IITs on a rotational basis on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB - GATE), a Department under the Ministry of Human Resources and Development.

 GATE Latest News

  • The GATE 2020 exams will be the first GATE that has seats reserved for the aspirants from the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category.
  • According to the amendments by the Central Government, 10% additional seats will be reserved for EWS candidates.
  • Results of GATE will be formulated following the normalization process.
  • This will be the second time in GATE examinations, that paper of Statistics discipline will also be examined.
  • Biomedical Engineering will be introduced for the first time in the GATE examination.
  • Candidates can appear for only one discipline of their respective backgrounds.

GATE Eligibility Criteria 2020

GATE Streamwise Education Qualification 2020

The GATE examination has separate eligibility criteria for aspirants belonging to different science and engineering degrees. The streamwise educational degree, passing year of examinations and others are given in a detail tabulated format below:

GATE Application Form 2020

The candidates who are preparing for the GATE have to apply and fill the application form to be able to appear and sit for the examination. The application will be done in an online mode and has the following steps.

Step 1: Candidates have to visit the official website – gate.iitd.ac.in.

Step 2: Need to register with the required information.

Step 3: Have to create and enroll with the registration id and password. This id and password must be saved for future references.

Step 4: Provide information on various personal details.

Step 5: Upload all the scanned pictures of signature, photograph, eligibility certificate and others in the format specified. 

Step 6: Complete the GATE Application fee payment.

Step 7: Submit the overall Application Form.

Step 8: Take a GATE Application form printout for future reference.

Step 9: Click and go the link ‘GOAPS’ to check the GATE Application form status.

GATE Application Form Correction 

The Authority has released the GATE Application Form correction. The date of application form correction is from October 15 – November 25, 2019. Candidates can make correction in the following areas:

  • Applicant’s Name

  • Parents/Guardian’s Name
  • Country 
  • Parent’s Mobile Number
  • Correspondence Address
  • Qualifying Degree Details
  • Category/Gender/PwD status/Dyslexia

GATE Admit Card

  • To download the GATE Admit Card 2020, candidates have to visit the official website- gate.iitd.ac.in.
  • Admit Card must have the name of the applicant, exam center, signature, and photograph.
  • Before downloading the GATE Admit Card candidates must verify certain information.
  • If there are any cases of discrepancies in the admit card, the candidates must report it to the conducting authority that is IIT Delhi. 
  • Candidates must carry additional photo id proof like voter card, aadhar card, driving license, pan card, etc.

GATE Marking Scheme 2020

  • The total marks of the GATE Examination are 100. 
  • 2/ 3rd marks will be deducted for questions carrying 2 marks. 
  • 1/ 3rd marks will be deducted for questions carrying 1 mark. 
  • There is no negative marking for NAT questions. 

GATE Syllabus

The GATE examination has a common paper of General Aptitude for all the candidates. This section carries 15% of the total marks.

This GA paper has two subparts which incorporate the verbal ability and numerical ability. The topics under both these sections are given below.
