Overview: With the exam getting closer, you must have already started preparing. However, if you’ve been wondering how to prepare for Rajasthan APO exam 2026, this blog will give you all the details you need.

  • The Rajasthan APO prelim is scheduled for 2nd September 2026. Preparing strategically starting now will ensure that you pass the exam.
  • You should be preparing for both old and new criminal laws as the syllabus states.

Let’s give you an expert approved strategy to prepare from scratch and all the other details you may need!

How to Prepare for Rajasthan APO Exam 2026 (Prelim + Mains) From Scratch?

If you’re just starting to prepare for the Rajasthan APO exam, it’s important to proceed strategically. Picking up random topics and study material will only leave you messed up by the end.

As per the Rajasthan APO Syllabus 2026, the exam focuses majorly on criminal laws but there are other important subjects as well.

At this point, if you asked us how to prepare for Rajasthan APO exam 2026 Prelims & Mains, here’s the 12-week strategy we would recommend.

Week 1-3: Get a Hold on the New Criminal Laws (BNS, BNSS, BSA)

The first and most important phase of your preparation should be devoted to:

  • Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)
  • Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS)
  • Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA)

These laws form the foundation of India's criminal justice system and are expected to be asked in the Rajasthan APO exam.

Make sure you understand not only the new provisions but also the changes introduced by the new criminal law framework.

  • Remember, studying these laws passively is not enough.
  • Create comparison charts showing the corresponding provisions under BNS and IPC, BNSS and CrPC, and BSA and the Indian Evidence Act.

Focus on clearing concepts for important topics like:

  • Organized crime
  • Terrorism-related offences
  • Mob violence
  • Arrest procedures
  • Bail provisions
  • Investigation processes
  • Admissibility of evidence
  • Witness-related provisions

Phase 1

Week

Focus Area

Study Plan

Week 1

Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)

Study the General Principles of BNS and important offences. Create a section-wise comparison chart with IPC. Focus on understanding the changes introduced under the new criminal law framework.

Week2

Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS)

Cover arrest, FIR, investigation, bail, charge sheet, and trial procedures. Compare key provisions with CrPC and prepare short notes on major changes.

Week 3

Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA)

Study admissibility of evidence, burden of proof, witnesses, presumptions, and electronic evidence. Prepare a BSA vs Evidence Act comparison chart.

Week 4-5: Build a Strong Foundation in IPC and CrPC

We strictly advise you not to ignore the old criminal laws at all. The syllabus focuses on old and new criminal laws equally.

During these two weeks, cover major IPC chapters such as

  • General exceptions
  • Offences against the human body
  • Offences against property
  • Offences against the State

In CrPC, concentrate on topics like arrest, FIR, investigation, bail, charge, trial procedures, and sentencing.

By exam day, you should be comfortable with both legal frameworks.

Note: Memorizing is not enough. You should be able to explain why a provision exists, how it operates in practice, and how courts interpret it.

Week 6: Develop Expertise in Evidence Law

Dedicate this week to understanding important topics from evidence law including relevance, admissibility, burden of proof, presumptions, documentary evidence, electronic records, and witness examination.

  • Simultaneously, begin maintaining a dedicated case law notebook.
  • Instead of trying to remember hundreds of judgments, prepare concise notes on 30-40 landmark decisions.
  • Learn about the legal principles established by each case.

Having a good hold on major topics from evidence law will help you write high-scoring answers in the Rajasthan APO Mains.

Phase 2

Week

Focus Area

Study Plan

Week 4

Indian Penal Code (IPC)

Cover General Exceptions, offences against the human body, offences against property, and offences against women. Focus on understanding legal ingredients of offences.

Week 5

Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC)

Study arrest, bail, cognizance, charge, trial procedure, sentencing, and appeals. Solve topic-wise previous year questions alongside your preparation.

Week 6

Evidence Law & Landmark Judgments

Revise major evidence concepts and begin maintaining a case law notebook. Focus on landmark criminal law judgments and their practical application in answers.

Week 7-8: Cover Special Laws and Rajasthan-specific Legislations

Once you finish preparing core criminal laws, it’s time to focus on special laws and Rajasthan’s state-specific legislation.

During this time cover topics like:

  • The POCSO Act
  • SC/ST Act
  • Juvenile Justice Act
  • Probation of Offenders Act

These laws are highly relevant to prosecution work and are frequently asked in exams like Rajasthan APO.

  • You should also devote dedicated time to Rajasthan-specific laws included in the syllabus.
  •  These legislations deserve focused preparation rather than last-minute reading.

Phase 3

Week

Focus Area

Study Plan

Week 7

Special Criminal Legislations

Cover the POCSO Act, SC/ST Act, Juvenile Justice Act, and Probation of Offenders Act. Prepare concise notes for revision.

Week 8

Rajasthan-Specific Laws

Focus on Rajasthan-specific legislation prescribed for the examination. Prepare provision-based notes and revise important sections regularly.

Week 9-10: Begin Your MCQs and Answer Writing Practice

Most candidates spend months reading books but never train themselves to write answers that follow legal vocabulary under actual exam conditions.

Whether it’s the Prelims exam or the Mains, you need to be prepared to answer accurately and descriptively according to the Rajasthan APO exam pattern.

  • For Prelims: Practice MCQs
  • For Mains: Start writing full-length answers every day
  • Practice legal problem questions, charge-framing questions, and previous-year questions
  • Practice application-based questions

Try to gradually improve legal analysis, answer structure, speed, and accuracy.

Phase 4

Week

Focus Area

Study Plan

Week 9

Answer Writing Practice

Begin writing descriptive answers daily. Practice legal problem questions and improve answer structure, presentation, and legal reasoning.

Week 10

Charge Framing & PYQs

Focus on charge-framing questions, a distinctive feature of Rajasthan APO Mains. Solve previous-year papers and analyze recurring question patterns.

Week 11-12: Revision, Mock Tests and Language Preparation

During the final phase when the exam is closer, you should focus on revision and practice instead of learning new topics.

  • Revise Bare Acts
  • Important Judgements
  • Refer to your revision notes and comparison charts at this time

Dedicate Time to English and Hindi Subjects

English and Hindi subjects have significant weightage in both Rajasthan APO Prelim and Mains. Do not make the mistake of ignoring these subjects. They can help you improve your overall score.

With this Rajasthan APO study plan, you can show up for the exam well-prepared.

Phase 5

Week

Focus Area

Study Plan

Week 11

Language Papers & Revision

Practice Hindi and English writing skills, including letter writing, report writing, translation, and précis writing. Simultaneously revise important law subjects.

Week 12

Full-Length Mock Tests

Attempt Prelims mock tests and Mains answer-writing tests under exam conditions. Analyze mistakes, revise weak areas, and focus on retention rather than learning new topics.

Important Tips and Daily Habits for Rajasthan APO Preparation

  • For Criminal Laws, cover at least 10 sections daily. Study and write down daily case laws.
  • Only reading is not enough. Write daily. Take a fact situation each evening and write a charge-framing answer by hand.
  • Build comparison charts instead of parallel notes. For every BNS chapter, write the equivalent IPC section beside it. For every BNSS provision, note what CrPC said.
  • Case laws are non-negotiable. Prioritize at least 30-40 landmark criminal law judgments and practice them thoroughly.
  • Don't ignore the Language Section. It holds significant weightage in both Prelims and Mains.

Rajasthan APO Prelims Preparation Tips

Here are a few Prelims-specific tips you may need when preparing for Rajasthan APO exam 2026:

Tip 1: Treat it like a Shortlisting Phase

The Prelims is qualifying in nature; its marks do not count towards the final merit list. Your goal is to clear the cutoff comfortably and move on.

Don't spend 70% of your total prep time on Prelims at the expense of Mains. Clear it with a 15-20% margin and shift focus to what actually builds your rank.

Tip 2: Prepare According to the 70/30 Subject Weightage

You shouldn’t ignore the language section. But that doesn’t mean that you spend all your time focusing too much on these subjects.

Law subjects carry 70% weightage and languages (Hindi & English) carry 30% weightage in Prelims. Mirror this ratio in your Prelims mock practice sessions.

Tip 3: Remember the Negative Marking Rule and Attempt Accordingly

In Prelims, do not attempt questions without certainty, given the negative marking of 1/3rd mark deducted for each wrong answer.

Here’s a practical rule you should follow:

Attempt a question only if you can confidently eliminate at least 2 wrong options. If you're genuinely guessing among 3 or more options, mark option 5 and move on.

Tip 4: Prelims Preparation Doesn’t Have to Be In-depth

Law questions in Prelims are testing-level MCQs around definitions, provisions, sections, and basic applications, not in-depth analytical answers.

This means for Prelims; you need section numbers, definitions, and key procedural steps at your fingertips. Flash-card style revision works better for Prelims than long-form reading.

Tip 5: Practice Dedicatedly for Languages

Most candidates overlook the Hindi and English component of Prelims because they assume it's easy. Don't make this mistake.

At 30% weightage (roughly 45 marks), a weak performance here can push you below cutoff even if your law score is solid. Grammar rules, vocabulary, and basic comprehension in both Hindi and English need a dedicated 20–25 minutes of daily practice.

Tips 6: Attempt Timed Mocks to Improve Speed and Accuracy

Attempting mock tests is important for Prelims because the exam includes negative markings. Regular practice helps improve speed and accuracy.

Timed mocks train your instinct to move quickly on what you know and flag quickly what you don't.

Rajasthan APO Mains Preparation Tips

You already know how to prepare for Rajasthan APO exam 2026. However, here are some specific tips to prepare well for the mains.

Tip 1: Practice Writing Answers Like a Prosecutor, Not a Student

Your answers must read like a trained prosecutor's work: precise statute citation, correct identification of offences from facts, correct procedure, and clear legal reasoning. Not like a law student summarizing a textbook chapter.

Tip 2: Your Answer Framework Should Address Both New and Old Laws

In the mains, a question might give you a factual situation from 2023 and ask you to frame charges that require IPC and CrPC. Another question might give a 2025 situation that requires BNS and BNSS.

Preparing only one set is not enough. Preparing both without understanding when each applies is also not enough.

train yourself to read every fact situation and immediately identify: when did this offence occur? Which laws should be applicable?

Tip 3: Practice Charge Framing Separately

Simply knowing the sections is not enough. Practice writing 2–3 complete charges from given fact situations every single day from Week 9 onwards.

A proper charge must contain:

  • The name of the accused
  • The specific offence charged (section and act)
  • The facts constituting the offence
  • The time and place of the offence
  • The person against whom it was committed

Tip 4: Practice Structured Answer Writing

For every Mains law answer, follow this structure consistently:

Issue → Applicable Law → Provisions → Application to Facts → Conclusion

Start by identifying the legal issue in the question. Cite the relevant section with the act name (not just the number). Apply to the specific facts given. Then conclude.

Examiners reward structured, section-cited answers over lengthy paragraphs that circle around the point.

Tip 5: Do NOT Neglect the Special Acts

Specialized acts like the SC/ST Atrocities Act and POCSO Act, are frequently asked and carry significant weightage in the Main Exam. Do not ignore these or you may risk your score.

Tip 6: Take the Language Paper Seriously

Many candidates focus only on law subjects and lose marks in language papers. General Hindi and English can significantly improve overall scores if prepared consistently.

Allocate proportional time to prepare language papers:15 days for Hindi and 15 days for English. Focus on comprehension, letter writing, and précis skills rather than rote grammar memorization.

Tip 7: Make Revision Your Routine

Start each study session with a 30-minute revision of older notes. This underrated habit ensures that you have a grasp of whatever you’ve learned along the way.

How to Prepare for Rajasthan APO Exam Along with Judiciary Exam Prep?

You can prepare for Rajasthan APO and judiciary exams simultaneously. But candidates often struggle with how to do that. Let us make this easier for you.

Common Subjects You Can Prepare Together

Many of the core subjects in the judiciary and Rajasthan APO syllabus are the same. Therefore, when you cover the following subjects, you’re preparing for both exams at the same time.

  • BNS, BNSS and BSA
  • Constitutional Law
  • Law of Evidence
  • Landmark Judgments
  • Bare Act Reading

What Requires Additional Focus for Rajasthan APO?

While the core law subjects overlap, Rajasthan APO has a distinct prosecution-oriented approach. Therefore, candidates should separately focus on:

  • Charge-framing practice
  • Criminal law problem-based questions
  • Rajasthan-specific legislations
  • Special criminal statutes
  • Hindi and English language papers
  • Descriptive answer-writing skills

Specific Preparation Strategies for Different Candidates

What works for one may not work for all. Here are specific preparation strategies for candidates from different career phases.

Final Year Law Students

If you are still pursuing your LL.B., focus on building concepts rather than rushing into advanced preparation.

  • Complete Bare Act reading alongside college studies
  • Prepare concise notes for criminal laws
  • Start answer-writing practice early
  • Maintain a notebook of important case laws
  • Solve previous year's questions regularly

Working Professionals

If you are working full-time, you should focus on consistency rather than long study hours. Even 3-4 focused hours daily can produce excellent results if spent on revision, Bare Acts, and writing practice instead of passive reading.

You can follow a schedule like the one given below:

Days

Focus Areas

Monday-Friday

Bare Acts, revision, short answer-writing practice

Saturday

Subject-wise revision and PYQs

Sunday

Full-length mock test and analysis

Judiciary Aspirants

If you are already preparing for Judiciary, you do not need an entirely separate preparation plan for Rajasthan APO.

Here’s a practical approach you can follow:

  • 70-80% Time: Common law subjects (BNS, BNSS, BSA, Constitution, Evidence, etc.)
  • 20-30% Time: Rajasthan-specific laws, language papers, charge-framing, and prosecution-oriented practice

This allows you to prepare for both examinations efficiently without doubling your workload.
