What is AILET?

The All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) is conducted by National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi) for admission to its BA LLB (Hons.), LLM and PhD programmes. NLU Delhi is the only top National Law University that does not accept CLAT scores — AILET is the sole entry route. The university is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Bar Council of India (BCI).

• Candidates from any stream, including Science, Commerce, and Arts, are eligible to apply.

AILET 2027 Educational Qualification (BA LLB)

You must have passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) or an equivalent examination from a recognised board.

Appearing Candidates: If you are appearing for Class 12 (or an equivalent examination) in 2027, you can apply for AILET 2027. However, admission will only be confirmed after successfully passing the qualifying examination with the prescribed minimum marks.

Foreign Nationals: Candidates applying under the Foreign Nationals category must have secured at least 65% marks in the 10+2 examination or its equivalent.

Note: Foreign National candidates are exempt from appearing for the AILET 2027 entrance examination.

AILET 2027 Age Limit (BA LLB)

According to the AILET Eligibility Criteria 2027, there is no maximum or minimum age limit for admission to the undergraduate BA LLB (Hons.) programme. Candidates of any age group who satisfy the educational qualification and minimum marks requirements are eligible to apply for AILET 2027.

AILET 2027 BA LLB Reservation Criteria

NLU Delhi provides reservation under both vertical (category-based) and horizontal (special category-based) reservation policies for admission to the BA LLB (Hons.) programme.

Based on recent AILET admission cycles, the reservation structure for 2027 is expected to include the following categories:

• SC: 15% of available seats.
• ST: 7.5% of available seats.
• PwD: 5% horizontal reservation across categories [VERIFICATION REQUIRED - Earlier notifications mentioned 3%].
• Women: 30% horizontal reservation across all categories, including reserved categories.

AILET PG Eligibility Criteria 2027 (LLM)

If you plan to appear for the AILET LLM examination in 2027, you should carefully review the AILET PG Eligibility Criteria 2027. Similar to the undergraduate programme, eligibility for the LLM course is based on three parameters:

• Age limit
• Educational qualification
• Minimum qualifying marks

AILET LLM 2027 Age Limit

There is no minimum or maximum age limit for admission to the LLM programme. Candidates of any age group who satisfy the educational qualification and minimum marks requirements are eligible to apply.

AILET LLM 2027 Educational Qualification

Candidates must have completed an LL.B. degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognised university.

AILET LLM 2027 Reservation Criteria

The reservation policy for the LLM programme broadly follows the category-wise reservation structure applicable to the undergraduate programme, including reservations for SC, ST, PwD, and, in recent admission cycles, OBC-NCL and EWS candidates.

Recent notifications have reported approximately 70-81 LLM seats, although the intake has varied across admission years. Candidates are advised to verify the final seat matrix through the official notification and the AILET PG Seats page.

AILET 2027 Eligibility Criteria for Foreign Nationals

Candidates applying under the Foreign National category should satisfy the following eligibility conditions:

BA LLB	Minimum 65% marks in the 10+2 (Higher Secondary) examination or an equivalent qualification.
LLM	A good academic record in LL.B. or an equivalent UGC/AIU-recognised degree with at least 55% marks. NLU Delhi also evaluates written and spoken English communication along with interview performance.

Note: Foreign National candidates are exempt from appearing for the AILET 2027 entrance examination under their respective admission category.

AILET 2027 Eligibility Criteria for PhD Programmes

According to recent notifications, NLU Delhi offers a limited number of PhD seats through AILET for Indian and Foreign National candidates [VERIFICATION REQUIRED for 2027 seat count].

To be eligible for the PhD (Law) programme, candidates must satisfy any one of the following eligibility conditions:

• A Master's degree in Law (or an equivalent professional degree recognised by the appropriate statutory authority) with at least 55% aggregate marks or an equivalent Grade B on the UGC 7-point scale.
• A Law degree along with a Master's degree in Social Sciences or Humanities from a recognised Indian university (or a UGC-accredited foreign university) with at least 55% aggregate marks or an equivalent Grade B.
• A Law degree and successful completion of the Company Secretary examination conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), along with Associate Membership of the Institute.
• A Law degree and successful completion of the final examination conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
• A Judge of any State High Court in India with at least three years of judicial experience, or a Judge of the Supreme Court of India.

Common Reasons Candidates Miss AILET 2027 Eligibility

• Higher marks in Logical Reasoning: The candidate scoring more in the Logical Reasoning section is ranked higher.
• Higher age: If the tie persists, the older candidate is given preference.
• Draw of lots: If candidates are still tied after the above two steps, NLU Delhi resolves the tie through an automated draw of lots.

Note: The AILET 2027 tie-breaking rule applies only after a candidate has already met the minimum qualifying marks and other eligibility conditions listed above. It does not override the category-wise minimum marks requirement.

Documents Required for AILET 2027

Along with meeting the AILET Eligibility Criteria 2027, candidates must keep the following documents ready for verification during application and counselling:

• Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets (proof of minimum qualifying marks)
• Transfer certificate / character certificate from school
• Category certificate, for candidates applying under OBC-NCL, SC, ST, or PwD categories
• BPL certificate, for SC/ST and women candidates claiming fee exemption
• Class 12 admit card or provisional certificate, for candidates appearing in or awaiting Class 12 results
• Scanned passport-size photograph and signature (as per AILET 2027 application form specifications)
