AILET 2020 Eligibility Criteria

The application forms for AILET 2020 will be available on the official website and nludelhi.ac.in, and it will be available in the first week of January 2020. The examination is held annually and conducted in online mode across 20 test centres of India. The eligibility criteria vary according to the different programs (B.A LLB, LLM. Ph.D.) opted by the law aspirant below are the listed details about the same.

AILET 2020 Eligibility Criteria for B.A LLB 

After clearing the entrance examination of AILET 2020, for a graduate program, students can get admission to the NLU for a five years B.A. LLB degree. Admission in the first year of the B.A LLB course is completely based on merit and the AILET exam eligibility criteria. 

  • There are a total of 80 seats for the B.A LLB program in the NLU.
  • Out of the total 80 seats, 10% of seats are reserved for the Foreign Nationals for direct admission into the five-year degree course.
  • Foreign Nationals are required to secure 65% qualifying marks in order to get admission. 

AILET 2020 Academic Criteria for B.A LLB 

  • Candidates should have completed their 10+2 or equivalent examination with a total of 50%.
  • Candidates appearing for the standard 12th examination in March/April 2020, can also apply for this law entrance examination. 

Important Information

  • During the interview process, candidates are required to bring valid proof of the qualifying examination with prescribed details.
  • The University holds the very right to cancel the admission procedure, in instances where candidates fail to qualify the examination or get a compartment in any subject. 

AILET 2020 Age Criteria for B.A LLB 

As per the notifications released in February 2020, NLU Delhi has withdrawn the age eligibility criteria this year. 

AILET 2020 Eligibility Criteria for LLM

This course is specifically meant for law graduates and the AILET LLM eligibility criteria for candidates is given below. Candidates can get admission to the 1-year degree program in LLM. 

  • There is a total of 40 seats available for this post-graduate course. 
  • There is no requirement for the Foreign Nationals to appear in this AILET for the LLM program. 
  • The academic records of LLB or equivalent degree will be given importance for Foreign Nationals. 
  • NLU will also assess the communication skills of a candidate in written and spoken English and performance in the interview based on capacity and aptitude. 

AILET 2020 Academic Criteria for LLM 

  • Candidates should have completed their B.A LLB or equivalent degree with a total of 55% marks. 
  • Candidates appearing for the final year LLB examination in March/April 2020, can also apply for this law entrance examination. 

Important Information

During the interview of the candidates, they are required to produce valid proof of the qualifying examination with prescribed details.

AILET 2020 Age Criteria for LLM

There is no age bar for appearing in the AILET 2020 examination for taking admission in LLM degree. 

AILET 2020 Eligibility Criteria for P.hD.

Law aspirants must comply with all the eligibility standards set by NLU to get admission to the P.hD program. The eligibility criteria are listed in the below details: 

  • There are a total of 5 seats available for this doctorate course.
  • The admission is strictly based on the merit of the candidate, i.e is the performance in the AILET exam 2020.

AILET 2020 Academic Criteria for P.hD.

  • Candidates should have completed their LLM degree with a total of 55% marks.
  • Candidates having qualifications like UGC NET/ SLET/ JRF and M.Phil are exempted from the entrance examination of AILET.
  • The Judges of the High Court and Supreme Court are also exempted if they fulfill their eligibility criteria.
  • Candidates after qualifying the AILET exam 2020 for P.hD. entrance, need to submit a research proposal and after its proper review, only the candidates whose proposal is selected by the scrutiny committee will get a chance to make a presentation before the doctoral committee on the proposal topic of the research on a date notified by the University. 

AILET 2020 Age Criteria for P.hD.

There is no age bar for appearing in the AILET 2020 examination for taking admission to a P.hD degree.

AILET 2020 Eligibility Criteria for Reservation

Alongside the eligibility criteria, the National Law University also declares the reservation policies for different categories of candidates. AILET reservation criteria for different courses are produced in detail below. 

AILET 2020 Reservation Criteria for B.A LLB

B.A. LLB program out of the total 80 seats, 10% are reserved for foreign nationals. In the remaining 75 seats, 15% are reserved for SC categories and 7.5% is reserved for ST categories, and 3% is reserved for persons with disability.

The unfulfilled seats reserved for SC categories will be assigned to the ST categories and vice-versa. However, if the seats are still vacant, they will be filled by the General category candidates. 

Besides 30% of total seats should be filled by eligible horizontal reservations for women candidates including categories from both foreign national and reserved quota. The selected candidates will be given preference in order of merit in each category. 

Additionally, one extra seat is reserved for Kashmiri migrant, who is required to sit in the entrance examination and fulfill the eligibility criteria to procure admission.

AILET 2020 Reservation Criteria for LLM

  • The total number of seats in the AILET LLM course is 20 seats, 15% reserved for SC categories, 7.5% reserved for the ST categories and 2.5% reserved for persons with disability categories.
  • 5 seats are allotted to the foreign national candidates having the citizenship of any country other than India. Besides, the seats that are left empty in the foreign national category are filled with general category candidates in the rank of merit.

AILET 2020 Merit List 

  • Candidates can get admission to the National University of Law through the AILET exam, which is completely based on merit and scores secured in the examination. 
  • Candidates are required to get a minimum of 40% of the total marks in the AILET 2020 to get admission to the preferred course.
  • In case the students have not secured the minimum cut off marks, the University holds the right to keep the seats reserved.
  • If candidates score the same percentage in the law entrance examination of AILET, then preference will be given on the basis of percentage of marks secured in the previous exam, or other equivalent examination from a relevant Board or University.
