What is AILET?

The All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) is conducted by National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi) for admission to its BA LLB (Hons.), LLM and PhD programmes. NLU Delhi is the only top National Law University that does not accept CLAT scores — AILET is the sole entry route. The university is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Bar Council of India (BCI).

Important Points Regarding AILET 2027 Qualifying Marks

• Candidates from any stream, including Science, Commerce, and Arts, are eligible to apply.
• If you fail to secure the minimum qualifying marks, your admission can be cancelled even after clearing the entrance examination.
• Eligibility is determined based on the aggregate marks obtained in the qualifying examination.

AILET 2027 Educational Qualification (BA LLB)

You must have passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) or an equivalent examination from a recognised board.

Appearing Candidates: You can apply for AILET 2027 if you are taking the Class 12 (or comparable) exam in 2027. But only after passing the qualifying exam with the required minimum scores will admittance be confirmed.

Foreign Nationals: Candidates applying under the Foreign Nationals category must have secured at least 65% marks in the 10+2 examination or its equivalent.

Note: Foreign National candidates are exempt from appearing for the AILET 2027 entrance examination.

AILET 2027 Age Limit (BA LLB)

According to the AILET Eligibility Criteria 2027, there is no maximum or minimum age limit for admission to the undergraduate BA LLB (Hons.) programme. Candidates of any age group who satisfy the educational qualification and minimum marks requirements are eligible to apply for AILET 2027.

AILET 2027 BA LLB Reservation Criteria

NLU Delhi provides reservation under both vertical (category-based) and horizontal (special category-based) reservation policies for admission to the BA LLB (Hons.) programme.

Based on the present AILET admission cycles, the following categories are expected to form part of the 2027 reservation structure:

• SC: 15% of available seats.
• ST: 7.5% of available seats.
• PwD: 5% horizontal reservation across categories [VERIFICATION REQUIRED - Earlier notifications mentioned 3%].
• Women: 30% horizontal reservation across all categories, including reserved categories.
• OBC-NCL and EWS: Reservation has been restored in recent admission notifications [VERIFICATION REQUIRED for 2027 percentage].
• Supernumerary seats for Kashmiri Migrants and Residents of Jammu & Kashmir.
• Separate intake for Foreign Nationals and OCI/PIO candidates, who are exempt from appearing for AILET.

AILET PG Eligibility Criteria 2027 (LLM)

If you plan to appear for the AILET LLM examination in 2027, you should carefully review the AILET PG Eligibility Criteria 2027. Similar to the undergraduate programme, eligibility for the LLM course is based on three parameters:

• Age limit
• Educational qualification
• Minimum qualifying marks

AILET LLM 2027 Age Limit

There is no minimum or maximum age limit for admission to the LLM programme. Candidates of any age group who satisfy the educational qualification and minimum marks requirements are eligible to apply.

AILET LLM 2027 Educational Qualification

Candidates must have completed an LL.B. degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognised university.

Appearing Candidates: Candidates who are appearing for their final LL.B. examination in 2027 or are awaiting their results may also apply. However, they must complete their graduation with the prescribed minimum qualifying marks before the AILET counselling and admission process.

Note: Candidates placed in the compartment during the year of admission are not eligible for admission to the LLM programme, even if they qualify for AILET 2027.

AILET LLM 2027 Reservation Criteria

The undergraduate program's category-wise reservation system, which includes reservations for SC, ST, PwD, and, in more recent entrance cycles, OBC-NCL and EWS students, is generally followed by the LLM program's reservation policy.

Although the intake has fluctuated between admission years, recent announcements have shown that there are roughly 70–81 LLM seats. It is recommended that candidates use the official notification and the AILET PG Seats Portal to confirm the final seat matrix.

AILET 2027 Eligibility Criteria for Foreign Nationals

The following qualifying requirements must be met by candidates applying under the Foreign National category:

Course	Eligibility (AILET 2027)
BA LLB	A minimum of 65% in the 10+2 (Higher Secondary) test or a comparable qualification.
LLM	A strong LL.B. or comparable UGC/AIU-recognized degree with at least 55% of the possible points. In addition to interview performance, NLU Delhi assesses written and spoken English communication.

Note: Candidates who are foreign nationals are not need to take the AILET 2027 entrance exam under the relevant admission category.

AILET 2027 Eligibility Criteria for PhD Programmes

According to recent notifications, NLU Delhi offers a limited number of PhD seats through AILET for Indian and Foreign National candidates [VERIFICATION REQUIRED for 2027 seat count].

To be eligible for the PhD (Law) programme, candidates must satisfy any one of the following eligibility conditions:

• A Master's degree in Law (or an equivalent professional degree recognised by the appropriate statutory authority) with at least 55% aggregate marks or an equivalent Grade B on the UGC 7-point scale.
• A Law degree along with a Master's degree in Social Sciences or Humanities from a recognised Indian university (or a UGC-accredited foreign university) with at least 55% aggregate marks or an equivalent Grade B.
• A Law degree and successful completion of the Company Secretary examination conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), along with Associate Membership of the Institute.
• A Law degree and successful completion of the final examination conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
• A Judge of any State High Court in India with at least three years of judicial experience, or a Judge of the Supreme Court of India.

Common Reasons Candidates Miss AILET 2027 Eligibility

Every year, many aspirants lose their chance of admission because they overlook basic eligibility requirements. Before applying, make sure you avoid these common mistakes:

• Not meeting the minimum qualifying marks: Clearing the AILET 2027 entrance examination alone is not enough. You must also satisfy the minimum percentage requirement applicable to your category.

AILET 2027 Tie-Breaking Rule

If two or more candidates score equal marks in the AILET 2027 entrance examination, NLU Delhi applies a fixed tie-breaking rule under the AILET Eligibility Criteria 2027 to determine the final merit order:

• Higher marks in Logical Reasoning: The candidate scoring more in the Logical Reasoning section is ranked higher.
• Higher age: If the tie persists, the older candidate is given preference.
• Draw of lots: If candidates are still tied after the above two steps, NLU Delhi resolves the tie through an automated draw of lots.

Note: The AILET 2027 tie-breaking rule applies only after a candidate has already met the minimum qualifying marks and other eligibility conditions listed above. It does not override the category-wise minimum marks requirement.

Documents Required for AILET 2027

In addition to fulfilling the AILET Eligibility Criteria 2027, applicants must have the following paperwork available for verification at the time of application and counselling:

• Mark sheets for Classes 10 and 12 (evidence of minimum qualifying marks)
• The school's transfer or character certificate
• Category certificate, for candidates applying under OBC-NCL, SC, ST, or PwD categories
• BPL certificate, for SC/ST and women candidates claiming fee exemption
• Class 12 admit card or provisional certificate, for candidates appearing in or awaiting Class 12 results
• Scanned passport-size photograph and signature (as per AILET 2027 application form specifications)
• Valid ID proof (Aadhaar card, passport, or school ID)

Important: Even after passing the AILET 2027 entrance exam, candidates who do not present these documents during counseling run the danger of having their admission revoked. Long before the AILET 2027 counselling rounds start, have both paper copies and scanned digital versions ready.
