AILET Exam Pattern 2020 Highlights for different programs

BA LLB- There will be 150 objective type questions provided to the candidates, each carrying 1 marks. The important topics include English, Reasoning, General Knowledge Legal Aspects, and Numerical Ability. 

LLM- This entrance exam comprises of 100 objective type questions carrying 1 marks each. In addition to this, there will be 1 descriptive essay based question carrying 50 marks. The LLM important topics are mainly from core legal awareness chapters.

Ph.D.- The Ph.D. level entrance exam has 100 objective type questions with every question carrying 1 marks. The vital topics cover concepts from Legal Research Aptitude and Research Methodology.

The total time duration for every exam of AILET is 1 hour and 30 minutes. The level of difficulty can be very well assessed by the fact that every question asked in the exam is being granted less than a minute timing. The AILET syllabus is somewhat synonymous with that of the curriculum of the CLAT examination.

Mode of Examination

The AILET Entrance Exam Pattern to different programs will be conducted in an offline pen and paper-based format. The questions will be objective type, and answers have to be marked in an OMR sheet with a blue or black ballpoint pen only. Overwriting and cutting should be avoided for the loss of marks. In the LLM exam, an additional answer sheet will be given to write a descriptive essay. 

Time Duration of Examination

Total timing of 90 minutes that is 1 hour and 30 minutes are provided to the students to attempt all the questions. The time duration is the same for all the candidates of the AILET exam. The medium of instruction is in the English language only. Candidates must stick to the time limit, and strive to finish the paper within the stipulated time.

Type and Number of Questions

All the exams of AILET have Multiple Choice Questions formats with an additional descriptive format in the LLM entrance exam. In the BA LLB program there 150 MCQ type questions. In the LLM program, there will be 100 MCQ type questions and 1 descriptive essay question. There will be 100 MCQ type questions in the Ph.D. level exam.

Marking Scheme

Each correct answer in all the AILET exams will score 1 marks, while for an incorrect answer 0.25 marks will be deducted from the papers. The AILET detailed marking pattern will be discussed further.

  • Each question from the MCQ pattern carries 1 mark for all AILET exams.
  • Every correct answer by the students let them score 1 mark. 
  • The candidates are penalized by 0.25 marks for every incorrect attempt.
  • There are no provisions for negative marking in case the questions are not attempted.
  • If a candidate marks two answers in the OMR sheet for a question, the answer will be invalid, and 0.25 marks will be deducted.
  • Candidates must avoid overwriting, and changing answers in OMR sheets as it can lead to the loss of potential marks.

AILET B.A.LLB Exam Pattern 2020

The B.A.LLB is a very renowned five-year duration program at the National Law University, Delhi, and the admission process is completed through the AILET exams. There are almost 80 seats offered for this course and thousands of candidates compete to get selected. Therefore, students appearing for this course must have a full-fledged awareness regarding the AILET B.A.LLB exam pattern. It comprises of five main papers which are:

The LLM is a postgraduation degree course held for the duration of 1 year. The AILET LLM Exam Pattern consists of 100 MCQ type questions with another essay type descriptive question on the assigned topics. The objective-based question carries 100 marks, and the essay based question carries 50 marks. The AILET LLM papers include the following paper:

AILET Ph.D. Exam Pattern 2020

Getting admission to the Ph.D. level program at the National Law University of Delhi requires humongous effort. Initially, the aspirants have to qualify the written AILET exam, which comprises 100 MCQ questions and the time duration is of 90 minutes. The questions in the AILET Ph.D. exams are framed from the concepts of Research Methodology and Legal Research Aptitude. 

The written test is a mere qualifier, but the final selection doesn’t consider any marks from this examination. The candidates who secure up to 50% marks (40% for SC/ST) are further asked to submit their research paperwork. The research proposal can be on any of the topics which they want to pursue their Ph.D. program. After proper evaluation of the research proposal by the doctoral committee, the candidates are selected for Ph.D. level program in NLU.
