NLU, Delhi has published a set of eligibility criteria that applicants must satisfy to apply for the AILET LLM entrance exam 2023.

Suppose you do not satisfy the eligibility criteria set by the conducting body, then the university holds the authority to cancel your candidature. With the AILET PG application form being released on September 7, 2022, it is important to understand the eligibility requirement before you fill out the application.

AILET LLM 2023 Eligibility Criteria

AILET PG exam is conducted annually by the National Law University, Delhi, to provide admissions to a one-year LLM program.

Before proceeding with the AILET LLM Application Form, you must check whether you have satisfied the eligibility criteria or not.

As said above, the AILET LLM eligibility criteria are defined under three parameters as mentioned below:

  • Age Limit
  • Education Qualification
  • Minimum Qualifying Marks

Age Limit for AILET LLM Eligibility Criteria 2023

According to the official notification, there is no upper age limit for appearing in the AILET PG 2023 Exam

However, your minimum age should be above 22 years to apply for the All India Law Entrance Test.

Educational Qualification for AILET LLM 2023 Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the one-year LLM program at NLU, Delhi, you must satisfy the following criteria:

  • You must have completed your LLB or an equivalent degree from a recognized university.
  • If you are appearing for the final year LLB exam or awaiting your qualifying examination results, you can still be eligible to appear in the AILET entrance test. However, in this scenario, you must achieve eligibility by the cut-off date, which will be announced simultaneously with the entrance test result notification.
  • Note that you will be deemed ineligible if you receive a compartment in the year of admission.

Qualifying Marks for AILET LLM Eligibility 2023

To apply for the All India Law Entrance Test, you must have secured a minimum of 50% marks in LLB or an equivalent degree if you belong to the general category.

If you belong to the reserved category, i.e., SC/ST/PwD, you must have scored a minimum of 45% marks in the qualifying examination.

AILET LLM 2023 Eligibility for Foreign Nationals and OCI/PIO

Let us first understand who the foreign nationals or OCI/PIO are eligible for admission at NLU, Delhi.

Foreign Nationals are the aspirants who possess citizenship of a country other than India and hold a valid passport of a Foreign Country. Whereas OCI stands for Overseas Citizen of India and PIO stands for Person of Indian Origin.

  • If you are a foreign national, you will be exempted from taking the All India Law Entrance Test. However, the other regulations regarding the eligibility for the admission process will be the same as applicable to the other aspirants.
  • If you fall under OCI/PIO category, you will have an option to apply either under the Foreign National category or under the Indian student's category.
  • If you are an OCI/PIO aspirant and apply under the category of Indian National, you have to appear in the All Indian Law Entrance Test.

AILET LLM Eligibility Criteria: Admission Process for Foreign Nationals and OCI/PIO

For Foreign Nationals, the admission shall be solely made based on: 

  • The academic record of LL.B. or equivalent degree recognized by the UGC/ Association of Indian Universities with a minimum of 55% marks or the equivalent grade.
  • Assessment of necessary written and spoken English communication skills and performance at the interview in terms of aptitude and capacity.

It mainly depends on the category you are from. As per the notification, the minimum marks required for the general category to apply for the AILET LLM is 50% while it is 45% marks for SC/ST/PwD category.


There is no limitation to appearing for the AILET LLM exam. However, you must satisfy the eligibility criteria set by the exam conducting body to appear for the AILET PG exam.

As per the notification, foreign nationals or OCI/PIO are exempted from appearing in the AILET.


There is no upper age limit for appearing in the AILET PG 2022 program. However, your minimum age should be 22 years to appear for the entrance exam.

To get admission in One year LLM Program, you must have completed your LLB or an equivalent degree from a recognized University with a minimum of 50% marks.
