The scorecard is a single downloadable PDF and it is the only official document confirming your CAT 2026 performance. Colleges, IIMs, and B-schools require this document during admissions. Here is everything that appears on it:
| Detail on Scorecard | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Candidate Name and Roll Number | Your identity as registered on the portal during application |
| Exam Date and Slot | Which slot you appeared in - Slot 1, 2, or 3 |
| Section-Wise Scaled Score | Normalised score for VARC, DILR, and QA separately - not raw marks |
| Overall Scaled Score | Sum of the three section-wise scaled scores after normalisation |
| Section-Wise Percentile | Your rank relative to all test takers, calculated per section independently |
| Overall Percentile | Your rank among all candidates - this is what IIMs use for shortlisting |
The scorecard is available only via login at iimcat.ac.in. It is not sent by email or post under any circumstances. Download it immediately after result day and before the window closes - scorecards cannot be reissued after the deadline passes.
The table below shows the approximate scores needed to reach key percentile bands in recent years. Use this to benchmark where your performance stands before the official CAT 2026 result is declared:
| Percentile | CAT 2021 | CAT 2022 | CAT 2023 | CAT 2024 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 99.5+ Percentile | 108 | 92 | 86 | 95 |
| 99 Percentile | 98 | 84 | 76 | 86 |
| 98 Percentile | 85 | 75 | 68 | 78 |
| 95 Percentile | 72 | 62 | 55 | 65 |
| 90 Percentile | 60 | 49 | 44 | 52 |
| 85 Percentile | 52 | 42 | 38 | 45 |
| 80 Percentile | 46 | 36 | 33 | 40 |
| 75 Percentile | 40 | 31 | 28 | 35 |
| 70 Percentile | 36 | 27 | 24 | 30 |
Scores required for the same percentile band can vary significantly year to year based on overall difficulty and number of test takers. The 2023 paper was notably easier, requiring lower raw scores for the same percentile band. Always use these figures as approximate benchmarks, not guarantees.

Understanding how your score is calculated helps you interpret your result correctly and set realistic expectations before the official result is declared. There are three distinct steps:
Every candidate's raw score is computed first, before any normalisation takes place:
The total raw score equals the sum of section-wise raw scores across VARC, DILR, and QA.
CAT is held in 3 slots on the same day. Each slot has a different set of questions. Since one slot may be harder than another, a candidate who appeared in that slot could be disadvantaged if raw scores alone were used. Normalisation corrects for this difference systematically:
| Parameter Used in Normalisation | What It Accounts For |
|---|---|
| Highest score in the slot | Sets the upper anchor for the normalisation formula |
| Lowest score in the slot | Sets the lower anchor for the normalisation formula |
| Mean score of the slot | Adjusts for the overall difficulty level of that paper |
| Median score of the slot | Balances the distribution mid-point across all three slots |
| Top 10 percentile performance | Normalises high-end score compression between slots |
| Bottom 10 percentile performance | Normalises low-end score distribution between slots |
Once scaled scores are calculated, they are ranked across all test takers. Your percentile equals the percentage of candidates who scored less than or equal to your scaled score. This is why:

"Focus on both your overall percentile and your section-wise percentiles. A 99 overall with 70 in QA will not get IIM-A calls. Sectional balance is as important as the headline number."
