The most competitive exam held in the state of Haryana each year by the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) to fill the various Civil Judge positions is the Haryana Judicial Services Exam, also known as the Haryana Civil Service Judicial Branch Exam (Junior Division). The exam for the Haryana Judicial Services will be used for recruitment.

The HJS exam selection procedure consists of three stages: the preliminary exam, the main exam, and the interview. Each of the three phases is a qualifying one.

Haryana Judiciary Prelims Exam Pattern 2026
There are 125 questions on the preliminary exam. There are four marks available for each question. To be eligible for the main exams, students must receive a minimum of 150 marks. The level of the question set will be graduate-level law. i.e., the required LLB curriculum for all law colleges in India with BCI approval. To get selected for the next phase of the selection process, you must receive more than 40% of the possible points.

Haryana Judiciary Mains Exam Pattern 2026
There are 5 papers on the mains test. There are three papers on law and two papers on languages such as Civil Law I, Civil Law II, Criminal Law III, and English Language (Hindi in Devanagari Script). To be eligible for the interview stage, candidates must receive 50% of the possible points. All of the papers are descriptive. For the main exam to count toward your selection for the viva-voce, you must receive 50% of the possible points if you fall under the general category. The cutoff mark is 45% for the reserved category.

Viva Voce/ Interview
Only if you pass both the Preliminary and the Main Exams will you be selected for an interview or viva. 100 points are awarded for the interview. Candidates that meet the primary cutoff are invited to the interview. In both the Main Examination and the Interview, all candidates must receive 50% of the possible points. After the main exam, only a select few candidates are invited for an interview.
