UP PCS J Salary - Overview

A civil judge from Uttar Pradesh is usually appointed at Level 9 of the judicial service category of the state. The basic grade pay assigned to this prestigious post is INR 56,100. However, the existing pay scale of a Civil Judge in UP ranges from INR 22700 to INR 47700.

The UP PSC J Junior Divison officials also receive additional allowances such as House Rent Allowance (HRA), Dearness Allowance (DA), City Compensatory Allowance (CCA), and Transport Allowance (TA). These allowances are provided based on the location of the city.

The total PCS J salary comprises the following components:

  • Basic Pay - INR 56,100
  • Dearness Allowance - 17% of Basic Pay

However, the NPS Deduction applies, which lowers the total take-home UP PCS J salary.

Upon completion of the LLM, the grade pay rises to INR 61,300, and the gross salary rises to INR 76,000. If you pass the final test for the LLM, your take-home income increases to INR 70,000.

UP PCS J Job Stability & Promotion

  • Parliament's Selection & Appointment Committee promotes officers working in the cadre of Civil Judges (Junior Division).
  • The selected civil judges must submit three judgments in four legible copies to their respective District Judges to be eligible for the promotion. 
  • Each copy of the judgement should be kept in separate covers with slips containing the name, designation and present place of posting of the officer concerned, appropriately affixed on each cover. 
  • After clearing the UP PCS J Exam 2023, you will be posted as an Additional Civil Judge in the Junior Division to hear civil cases or as a Judicial Magistrate to hear criminal cases.
