The National Institute of Design, Haryana, is an Indian design school located in Umri, Kurukshetra, and was established in November 2016. The institute is an autonomous agency of the Government of India's Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry. NID Kurukshetra is a renowned design institute in India that was founded with the goal of promoting design talent and innovation.

Admission process 

The NID Design Aptitude Test (DAT) is a national-level entrance exam that is used to determine admission to NID Kurukshetra. The NID DAT is conducted by the National Institute of Design and is administered once a year.

The NID Kurukshetra admission process is as follows:  

Admission Process 


Online application 

Applicants can apply for admission through the official website of NID using www.nid.edu/home. Applicants can fill out the NID DAT application form in online mode and pay the NID DAT application fee in online mode as well. 

Qualify DAT 

The first step in the admission process is to qualify for the Design Aptitude Test (DAT). The DAT is a national-level entrance exam conducted yearly for admission to all NIDs. The DAT is a two-stage exam that consists of a written test and an interview. 


Based on the performance in the DAT, a shortlist of applicants will be prepared. The shortlist will be prepared based on the applicant’s percentile score in the DAT. 


The shortlisted applicants will be called for an interview. A panel of National Institute of Design experts will conduct the interview. The interview will be used to assess the applicant’s aptitude for design and their overall personality. 


A final list of admitted applicants will be prepared based on their performance in the DAT and the interview. The final list will be published on the official website of NID. 

NID Kurukshetra Documents required

The eligibility criteria for applicants who are appearing for the NID DAT exam are as follows:

Academic qualifications:   

  • Applicants must have passed or will appear for higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in any stream (science, arts, commerce, humanities, etc.) from any recognised board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or equivalent.   
  • Applicants can apply from any stream (science, arts, commerce, humanities, etc.).   
  • Applicants must have a good command of English. 

NID Kurukshetra Cut off 

The admissions cut off for varies from year to year. However, the overall trend is that the NID DAT cut off for the more popular courses is higher. 

NID Kurukshetra Hostel Facility  

The college provides hostel accommodations for all students. The hostel accommodations are comfortable and spacious. The hostel is on campus and well equipped with all necessary services such as meals, security, laundry, and recreational facilities.
