The IPMAT Indore previous year question paper is the actual question paper used by IIM Indore in an earlier admission cycle for the Integrated Programme in Management.
For students preparing for the exam, these papers are useful for understanding the kind of questions asked, the difficulty level, and the way different topics are tested.
From 2022 onwards, the IPMAT Indore question paper has followed a three-section format with 90 questions carrying a total of 360 marks.
The sections are Quantitative Ability (MCQ), Quantitative Ability (Short Answer), and Verbal Ability.
Since the detailed official syllabus may not always provide enough information about the actual level of questions, IPMAT Indore PYQs are a useful way to understand what you are likely to face in the examination.
The current IPMAT Indore exam pattern consists of three sections:
| Section | Number of Questions | Question Type | Time |
| Quantitative Ability (MCQ) | 30 | MCQ | 40 minutes |
| Quantitative Ability (Short Answer) | 15 | Short Answer | 40 minutes |
| Verbal Ability | 45 | MCQ | 40 minutes |
| Total | 90 | — | 120 minutes |
Each section has a fixed 40-minute time limit. Candidates have to attempt the sections in the prescribed order and cannot return to a section once its allotted time is over.
This makes time management an important part of IPMAT Indore preparation.
Simply knowing the concepts is not enough; you also need to practise solving questions within the given sectional time limit.
This section rewards accuracy under negative marking.
Recurring topics across recent IPMAT Indore previous year question papers include Number Systems, Percentages, Profit & Loss, Time & Work, Progressions, and coordinate geometry.
Because wrong answers cost you a mark, this is not the section to guess blindly on — skip a question you're genuinely unsure about rather than risk the penalty.
This is the section that separates well-prepared candidates from the rest.
There's no answer choice to eliminate from, no negative marking to fear, and the questions tend to be a notch harder — logarithms, functions, sequences, and multi-step algebra show up frequently.
Because there's no penalty for a wrong attempt, an educated attempt is almost always worth making here, even under time pressure.
Important Topics in IPMAT Indore Quantitative Ability PYQs
The IPMAT Indore Quantitative Ability previous year papers cover a wide range of mathematical concepts. Some topics appear regularly and should receive sufficient practice during preparation.
Important areas include:
The Short Answer section can include multi-step questions involving topics such as logarithms, functions, sequences, and algebra. These questions require a good understanding of concepts along with careful calculation.
Students should not prepare these topics only by reading formulas. Solving IPMAT Indore Quantitative Ability PYQs can help you understand how IIM Indore frames questions from these concepts.
The largest section by question count.
Expect a mix of reading comprehension, vocabulary-in-context, sentence correction, para-jumbles, and critical reasoning.
Past papers show a consistent preference for moderately dense passages rather than very short ones — building reading stamina matters as much as vocabulary here.
Important Topics for IPMAT Indore Verbal Ability
Based on the pattern seen in IPMAT Indore previous year papers, the following topics deserve focused preparation:
| Topic | What to Prepare |
|---|---|
| Reading Comprehension | Main idea, inference, tone, author's purpose, vocabulary in context, factual details |
| Vocabulary | Synonyms, antonyms, word meanings, contextual usage |
| Para Jumbles | Logical sequence, opening/closing sentences, connecting words and ideas |
| Sentence Correction | Grammar, sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, modifiers, tenses |
| Fill in the Blanks | Contextual vocabulary, grammar, sentence meaning |
| Idioms & Phrases | Common expressions, meanings and contextual usage |
| Sentence Completion | Logical completion, vocabulary and contextual understanding |
| Odd Sentence Out | Identifying the sentence that does not fit the paragraph |
| Critical Reasoning | Arguments, assumptions, conclusions, strengthening and weakening arguments |
| Grammar | Parts of speech, tenses, articles, prepositions, conjunctions, pronouns and modifiers |
| Word Usage | Correct usage of similar or commonly confused words |
| Spelling | Common spelling errors and correctly spelt words |
The recent IPMAT Indore previous year papers follow a marking scheme of 4 marks for every correct answer. However, negative marking differs between the sections.
Negative marking applies to the Quantitative Ability MCQ and Verbal Ability sections.
The Quantitative Ability Short Answer section does not have negative marking, which gives students more freedom to attempt questions even when they are not completely sure of the answer.
While solving IPMAT Indore PYQs, make sure you use the actual marking scheme while calculating your score.
This gives you a much more realistic idea of your performance than simply counting the number of questions answered correctly.
This is the part most students skip, and it's the part that causes the most misdirected practice. IPMAT Indore question papers have not looked the same across every year.
| Year | Total Questions | Total Marks | Format Notes |
| 2019 | 100 | 400 | Older, longer format; not representative of current pattern |
| 2020 | 60 | 240 | Shortened format introduced |
| 2021 | 60 | 240 | Same shortened format as 2020 |
| 2022 | 90 | 360 | Current format introduced — QA (MCQ) + QA (SA) + VA |
| 2023 | 90 | 360 | Current format |
| 2024 | 90 | 360 | Current format |
| 2025 | 90 | 360 | Current format |
| 2026 | 90 | 360 | Current format; exam held May 4, 2026 |
What this means practically:
If you're preparing for IPMAT 2027, your core practice set should be the IPMAT Indore previous year papers from 2022 to 2026 — five papers that genuinely reflect what you'll face.
The 2019–2021 papers are still worth solving for concept revision and for extra Verbal Ability and Quant practice, but don't use your score on them to judge your current readiness; the section structure and time pressure were different.
If you are preparing for IPMAT 2027, start with the IPMAT Indore previous year question papers from 2022 to 2026.
These papers give you the closest representation of the current exam format and are more useful for understanding present-day question patterns and difficulty levels.
A practical order would be:
Do not rush through all the papers in a few days. It is more useful to solve one paper properly, analyse your mistakes, and work on your weak areas before attempting the next one.
The Quantitative Ability Short Answer section deserves special attention while solving IPMAT Indore PYQs. Unlike the MCQ sections, this section does not have negative marking.
The section consists of 15 questions and can include topics such as logarithms, functions, sequences, progressions, and multi-step algebraic problems.
Some questions can be more challenging than those in the Quantitative Ability MCQ section because you have to arrive at the answer without selecting from multiple options.
Since there is no negative marking, students should make good use of this section. However, this does not mean attempting questions randomly.
A better approach is to first solve questions you understand well and then spend the remaining time on the more difficult ones.
Simply downloading IPMAT Indore previous year question papers is not enough. The way you practise them matters just as much.
Try the following approach:
Set a timer for 40 minutes and solve one section at a time. Follow the same section order and avoid checking solutions while you are attempting the paper.
Once you finish, calculate your score using the actual marking scheme. This will give you a realistic picture of your current preparation level.
Do not look only at the questions you got wrong. Check questions where you guessed, took too long, or used an unnecessarily complicated method.
Try to classify each mistake as one of the following:
This makes it easier to decide what you need to work on.
If you notice repeated mistakes in percentages, algebra, Reading Comprehension, or vocabulary, revise those topics before moving to the next IPMAT Indore previous year paper.
This approach is much more useful than repeatedly solving papers without analysing your performance.
Although both exams are designed for admission to integrated management programmes, the IPMAT Indore and IPMAT Rohtak exam patterns are different.
As a result, their previous year papers should not be treated as interchangeable.
| Feature | IPMAT Indore | IPMAT Rohtak |
| Quantitative Ability | Yes | Yes |
| Verbal Ability | Yes | Yes |
| Logical Reasoning | No dedicated section | Yes |
| Short Answer Questions | Yes | No |
| MCQs | Yes | Yes |
| Exam Structure | 3 sections | Different section structure |
The IPMAT Indore previous year papers focus on Quantitative Ability and Verbal Ability, with Quantitative Ability divided into MCQ and Short Answer sections.
IPMAT Rohtak, on the other hand, includes Quantitative Ability, Logical Reasoning, and Verbal Ability and uses an MCQ-based format.
Therefore, if your target is IIM Indore, give priority to IPMAT Indore PYQs. You can use IPMAT Rohtak papers for additional practice only when the topics overlap.
Solving a paper and learning from a paper are two different activities. Here's the sequence that tends to produce real score improvement, based on how well-prepared candidates typically structure their final months:
A realistic cadence in the last 8–10 weeks before the exam is one full timed paper every 4–5 days, with the days in between spent on targeted concept revision from your error log — not on solving more new papers back to back.
