Which of These Upcoming Law PG Exams Are Best for You?

Having witnessed so many students and AIRs, we would tell you there's no single best option in this list. Most serious LLM aspirants apply to more than one.

  • CLAT PG gives access to the largest network of NLUs (24 participating universities) and is the most widely recognized.
  • AILET PG is specific to NLU Delhi alone, a single-university bet with far fewer seats.
  • CUET PG LLM opens the door to DU, BHU, and other CUET-participating universities through one common exam.
  • ILI CAT is specific to the Indian Law Institute, Delhi

Most candidates prepare for CLAT PG as their primary target and use AILET PG and CUET PG LLM as parallel attempts, since all three test similar core law subjects

If you have a specific interest, three niche routes are worth adding to your list:

  • Insolvency law → AIET-PGIP (NLU Delhi)
  • IP / technology law → IIT Kharagpur LLM
  • A diploma-level specialization with no entrance exam → ILI PG Diploma

Yes. NLU Delhi previously ran AILET PG as 100 MCQs plus 2 descriptive/essay questions, totalling 150 marks. That format has been discontinued.

AILET PG is now fully objective: 100 MCQs, 100 marks, with no descriptive section. If you're using older study material that still mentions descriptive questions or 150 total marks, that information is outdated.

Start preparing for AILET PG 2027 early if you want to clear it this year.

CUET PG / CUET LLM 2027

DU LLM admission, along with BHU LLM and several other CUET-participating universities, is now based entirely on your score in CUET PG LLM, the Common University Entrance Test for Postgraduate programmes, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

All these options are worth considering. You can even prepare multiple upcoming law PG entrance exams in 2027.

Here are the key takeaways:

  • CLAT PG, AILET PG, and CUET PG are some of the most popular upcoming law PG entrance exams along with several others.
  • Most serious candidates prepare for 2-3 exams in parallel rather than betting on one, since CLAT PG, AILET PG, and CUET PG LLM share substantial syllabus overlap.
  • Application windows are short, most of these exams open and close registration within 4-8 weeks, so tracking notification dates early matters as much as subject prep.
