IIT Kharagpur Law Eligibility (Overview) 

IIT Kharagpur's Law School is one of the top-notch law institutes currently active in the Indian Subcontinent. The institution is well known for offering Certificate Programmes and law degrees at UG and PG levels to law Aspirants.  

Here, you can pursue both LLB & LLM based on your interest. However, before admission, you must undergo the two-stage selection process. It includes a Computer Based Test and a Personal Interaction round.  

The first round has 2 papers. Part I is divided into the following sections: Mathematics (15 points), (Biology, Physics & Chemistry) (35 points). While the second section carries questions from English (60 points), Logical Reasoning(20 points)  and Legal Knowledge (70 points).  

Also, the first round has 70% weightage, while the PI holds 30% of the total weightage. Hence the merit list will be prepared by compiling the score from both these rounds.  

But before you jump to the preparation, you must know the Eligibility Criteria for applying. Eligibility Criteria for IIT Kharagpur Law: LLB 

• Your Graduation should be completed without any backlogs.  
• Also, you should obtain your graduate degree from a university recognized by UGC and other Central Affiliating bodies like AICTE, NAAC, NBA, BCI, MCI, DCI, PCI, etc.  
• You need to have a degree in a relevant field. These courses include an exceptional bachelor's degree in technological engineering, technology, or healthcare, or its equivalent, is required. 
• Also, a first-class master's degree in science or medicine or an equivalent qualification. 
• A First-Class MBA in any of the aforementioned will also work fine.  
• If the degree-granting university does not specifically state "First Class," then an absolute minimum of 60% or a cumulative GPA of 6.5 on a scale of one to ten will be required.

Eligibility Criteria for IIT Kharagpur Law: LLM  

• You must have a Bachelor's in law from any UGC and BCI-recognized University in India. No degree less than this will be accepted for the LLM Program. 
• You must obtain an Integrated LLB degree (5 years) or a 3-year LLB Graduation Programme. Both of them are equally Valid.  
• With the 3 years LLB program, you must also have a graduate degree in Arts/Science or Commerce. Else, your admission claim will get null and void.   
• If you have completed your LL.B (Hons.) in the field of Intellectual Property Law at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, in the year of study 2022-23 and have a cumulative CGPA of 8.5 or higher, then you are qualified for admittance to the LLM program sans taking the aforementioned entrance exam. 

Notes: You can attach your CLAT, AILET or CET Score with your application. However, you will be considered eligible for admission only when you clear both rounds of the entrance examination conducted by the IIT Kharagpur for its Law Programme.  

Remember: If the degree-issuing university uses the CGPA structure, the cumulative grade point will not be rendered to percentage points. The CGPA granted in the record will then be used to determine admission. If the CGPA is not on a scale of 10.0, the candidate's eligibility will be determined using the equivalent specified above.

Age and Nationality Requirements of IIT Kharagpur for Law  

Age and Nationality is another determinant factor when it comes to eligibility requirements. Hence, you must know about it as well.  

• IIT Kharagpur has made no official announcement regarding the age limit. You can enrol in LLB or LLM at any point in time without worrying about the age bar.  
• You either need to have an Indian Nationality or an NRI Status. However, there's no restriction for foreign students. So, you can apply irrespective of your nationality.
