  • Prelims consists of 125 objective questions, 4 marks each (500 marks), 2 hours. Every wrong answer costs 0.80 marks.
  • Mains have five descriptive papers worth 900 marks, followed by a 200-mark viva-voce.
  • The last cycle of Haryana Judiciary Exams (Advt. No. 1/2024) was for 174 posts (129 actual + 45 anticipated).

Key Points About Haryana Judiciary Previous Year Question Papers

  • The prelims is a screening test only; its marks are not added to the final merit.
  • The prelims OMR has a fifth option "E" for "not attempting". Leaving all five circles blank still costs 0.80 marks.
  • Leaving over 10% of questions (13 or more) with no circle darkened disqualifies the candidate.
  • A candidate needs at least 33% in every mains paper and 50% aggregate (45% for specified reserved categories) to be called for the viva.
  • The 2017 prelims was scrapped by the Punjab and Haryana High Court after a paper leak, so no valid 2017 Haryana Judiciary Previous Year Question Paper exists.

Haryana Judiciary Previous Year Question Papers Analysis

Haryana Judiciary previous year question papers clearly show that accuracy matters far more than the number of attempts in the preliminary exam, while mains rewards well-structured answers with proper section citations.

Prelims scoring and strategy

The Prelims marking scheme gives +4 for every correct answer and –0.80 for every wrong or blank response in the answer sheet. Skipped questions also receive zero marks. The below table shows how different combinations of attempts and accuracy translate into net scores out of 500:

  • 60 questions attempted at 80% accuracy (48 right, 12 wrong) → 182.4 marks
  • 80 questions attempted at 70% accuracy (56 right, 24 wrong) → 204.8 marks
  • 100 questions attempted at 60% accuracy (60 right, 40 wrong) → 208.0 marks
  • 110 questions attempted at 50% accuracy (55 right, 55 wrong) → 176.0 marks
  • 125 questions attempted at 45% accuracy (56 right, 69 wrong) → 168.8 marks

Mains papers and minimum requirements

The mains exam consists of 5 papers. Each paper carries its own syllabus and a 33% minimum to be credited:

  • Paper I – Civil Law-I (200 marks, minimum 66): Code of Civil Procedure, Punjab Courts Act, Indian Contract Act, Partnership Act, Sale of Goods Act, Specific Relief Act, Indian Evidence Act/BSA 2023, and Haryana Urban (Control of Rent and Eviction) Act, 1973.
  • Paper II – Civil Law-II (200 marks, minimum 66): Hindu Law, Mohammadan Law and Customary Law, Law of Registration, and Limitation.
  • Paper III – Criminal Law (200 marks, minimum 66): Indian Penal Code/BNS 2023, Code of Criminal Procedure/BNSS 2023, and Indian Evidence Act/BSA 2023.
  • Paper IV – English (200 marks, minimum 66): Essay of 1,000–1,100 words (100 marks), precis (25), words and phrases (25), comprehension (25), and corrections (25).
  • Paper V – Hindi (Devanagari) (100 marks, minimum 33): English-to-Hindi translation (20), explanation of prose and poetry (30), and composition, idioms and corrections (50).

Interview (viva-voce) strategy

Candidates must secure at least 450 marks out of 900 (405 for specified reserved categories). For final selection, 50% of the combined mains-plus-viva total of 1,100 marks is required, i.e., 550 marks (495 for the same reserved categories).

When practising older Haryana Judiciary previous year question papers, candidates must remember that the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam replaced the IPC, CrPC and Evidence Act with effect from 1 July 2024.

Benefits of Solving Haryana Judiciary Previous Year Question Papers

Solving Haryana Judiciary previous year question papers shows you how HPSC actually frames questions, which no syllabus PDF can.

  • You learn the depth expected per Act - Prelims questions are law-graduate level, so you see which provisions are tested as bare-text recall and which as application.
  • You practise the OMR rules before exam day -Marking E for skips and keeping blank rows under 13 becomes a habit, not a last-minute worry.
  • You find your safe attempt range - Timed papers tell you how many questions you can answer at 70% or better accuracy in two hours.
  • You see repeat areas in mains - Civil Law-I alone covers eight statutes, and old papers show which sections examiners return to.
  • You train for three-hour writing - Five papers of three hours each test stamina as much as law; full mains papers build both.
  • You prepare for Hindi and English, not just law - The language papers carry 300 of the 900 mains marks, and each still needs 33% on its own.

How to Effectively Use Haryana Judiciary Previous Year Question Papers?

Use Haryana Judiciary previous year papers in three rounds: learn from them, test with them, then simulate the exam with them.

  1. Read before you solve - In your first month, go through two prelims and two mains papers without a timer. Mark every question by Act and section in the margin.
  2. Solve subject-wise after each topic - When you finish CPC or Hindu Law, pull out every past question on it from all years and attempt them together.
  3. Check answers from bare acts, not keys alone - Use the High Court's final answer key where available, then open the bare act to confirm the section.
  4. Map old law to new law - For IPC, CrPC and Evidence Act questions, write the matching BNS, BNSS or BSA section next to your answer.
  5. Take full timed prelims from month three - Sit 2 hours, use a printed OMR sheet, mark E for skips and score yourself at +4 and −0.80.
  6. Write full mains papers in 3 hours - Practise with a bare act on the desk, since the hall supplies one, and get at least one paper a week evaluated.
  7. Keep an error log - List each wrong answer with its cause: concept gap, misread question or careless marking. Revise from this log, not the full syllabus, in the last month.

Common Mistakes to Avoid While Using Haryana Judiciary Previous Year Papers

The biggest mistake with Haryana Judiciary previous year papers is treating them as a question bank to memorise rather than a map of what to study.

  • Leaving OMR rows blank in mock tests - In the real exam a blank row costs 0.80 marks, and 13 or more blank rows disqualify you.
  • Trusting unofficial answer keys - Coaching keys often differ; check against the High Court's final key and the bare act.
  • Using HCS (Executive) papers by mistake - The HCS Executive Branch exam has a different syllabus and pattern; its 2026 revision does not apply to HCS (JB).
  • Practising the scrapped 2017 prelims as a real paper - It was cancelled after a leak and does not reflect a valid exam.
  • Answering old criminal law questions with repealed sections only - Map every IPC, CrPC and Evidence Act answer to the BNS, BNSS and BSA.
  • Skipping the Hindi and English papers - Both need 33% on their own, whatever your law scores.
  • Solving mains papers without a timer or bare act - The real exam gives you 3 hours and a bare act; practise under the same conditions.
  • Attempting everything to "cover" the paper - Your score depends on accuracy; fix a safe attempt range from your mocks first.
