CLAT is an offline admission test conducted to offer admission to law aspirants in undergraduate and postgraduate programs. This year, some major changes have been introduced in the CLAT Exam Pattern by the Consortium of National Law Universities to ensure the intake of better students to the NLUs. CLAT Latest Updates 2020

As per the CLAT Latest News, the Consortium of National Law Universities have introduced major changes and have come up with the following notifications:

September 20, 2020: Notice Regarding Date of Birth

  • The consortium has observed that few candidates have entered the wrong date of birth. Hence, any candidate who has entered an incorrect date of birth must correct it by midnight of 26th September 2020.
  • Note that this date of birth is for CLAT records and further processing only and your date of birth will NOT be updated in the admit card. You will continue to use what is displayed on the admit card for the exam.

September 20, 2020: Revised Instructions for CLAT 2020

  • The consortium of NLUs have introduced new instructions for the CLAT Exam 2020. Candidates are expected to reach the Centre 1 hour before the start of the examination. No candidate shall be allowed to enter the test Centre after 15 minutes of the commencement of the examination.
  • Candidates cannot carry any electronic gadgets to the exam hall. Candidates who have been tested positive are not allowed to take up the exam. Check Revised Exam Day Instructions

September 20, 2020: Notice for Chattisgarh Candidates

  • In the view of lockdown announced in Chattisgarh, the CLAT Consortium is working with the state government to allow candidates to travel to the test centres by using their admit card as pass.
  • Candidates are requested to carry their admit card and photo identity card and produce them when requested.

September 20, 2020: Notification Regarding Calculator

  • Candidates are informed that the use of a calculator in the exam hall is not permitted. The on-screen calculator in the mocks was inadvertently displayed without the approval from the executive committee or the convenor.

September 19, 2020: Notice for Covid Positive Candidates

  • Candidates who have been tested positive and are under medical surveillance or in isolation will not be permitted to take the CLAT 2020 examination scheduled to be held on 28th September, 2020.

September 19, 2020: Notice Regarding PwD Candidates

  • All PwD candidates must carry their Disability Certificate along with them to the Test Centre.

September 19, 2020: Notice for Specially Abled Person (SAP/PwD)

  • The facility of Scribe/Reader/Lab Assistant is allowed to any person with benchmark disability as defined under section 2(r) of the RPwD Act, 2016 and has a limitation in writing including that of speed if so desired by him/her.
  • All candidates using scribe must arrange for scribe at their own cost and inform the regional coordinator by 25th September 2020. Check Official Notice

September 15, 2020: CLAT Admit Card Released

  • The exam conducting authority has released the admit card for CLAT 2020 on its official website. 
  • Candidates can log in to the official website using their login credentials and download the admit card. Also, ensure to carry the admit card to the exam center without fail. Download CLAT Admit Card.

September 10, 2020: Admit Card Instructions Notice

  • The Consortium has released certain admit card instructions for candidates appearing for CLAT 2020.
  • Request for change of admit card will not be considered. Candidates must safely keep the admit card and show it at the exam entrance. 
  • Candidates must sign on the admit card in the presence of the Invigilator. 
  • The duly filled and signed Medical Self-Declaration should be shown at the Entrance and should be submitted to the Invigilator. Check Official Notice

September 6, 2020: Clarification regarding CLAT 2020 Confusions & Smooth Conduction

  • The consortium of NLUs conducted a combined meeting regarding resolving issues in the confusion of CLAT 2020.
  • Except for NLSIU, no other NLU is conducting a separate entrance exam. Upon agreeing for all conditions listed by the Consortium, NLSIU decided to conduct an independent Law Entrance Exam for their university.
  • To ensure the smooth conduct of CLAT-2020, and to avoid the conflict of interest, the Governing Board unanimously resolved to shift the Secretariat of the Consortium to the NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad.
  • It was further resolved that Professor Faizan Mustafa shall immediately take over the control and the handle of the Consortium website. Check Official Notice

September 4, 2020: Final Decision of the Consortium

  • A combined meeting under the Chairmanship of Prof. V. Vijaykumar, Vice-Chancellor, NLIU, Bhopal, and other members including Vice-Chancellor of NLSIU, Bangalore was held.
  • After all considerations, the Governing Body said that in case NLSIU sticks to its decision, NLSIU cannot remain associated with the CLAT-2020 in any manner and all financial and administrative decisions will have to be taken by Prof. Balraj Chauhan, CLAT-2020 Convener and the Secretariat of Consortium may be shifted out of NLSIU. September 3, 2020: New UG Seat Matrix Announced

  • For few Institutes, the seat matrix has been updated. This Seat Matrix change is applicable for DNLU Jabalpur, CNLU Patna, DBRANLU Sonepat.
  • Candidates willing to get admission in these universities need to have a look at the latest CLAT Seat Allotment.
  • Candidates can log in to their account and make changes if required in regard to the reservation categories. Make the changes accordingly and submit them.

August 28, 2020: CLAT Exam Postponed Again

  • As per the latest reports, the CLAT Exam Date is postponed to 28th September 2020, Monday. Check Official Notice.
  • In view of the current situation across the globe, the Consortium of NLUs has decided on the new date for CLAT Exam.
  • Due to this, the release of the CLAT Admit Card is also postponed. Candidates can enhance their preparation and be well prepared.

August 10, 2020: New CLAT Exam Date Announced 

  • The Consortium of National Law Universities released a notification stating that the new CLAT exam date is 7th September 2020 which will be conducted in online mode. Candidates who are appearing in CLAT 2020 are advised to follow the rules strictly on the day of the exam. Check Official Notice
  • The exam will be conducted from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at respective test centers. Candidates are advised to go through the detailed medical precautions released by the NLUs previously. 

August 05, 2020: CLAT Exam Date Postponed

  • As per the latest reports, the Common Law Admission Test has been postponed again. The Consortium of NLUs will announce the new dates after 1st September 2020. Candidates are advised to keep checking the latest updates here to know about the exam schedule.

August 04, 2020: Updated NLSIU Bangalore Seat Matrix

  • The total number of seats in NLSIU has been increased from 80 to 120.
  • A new category for the "Karnataka Students" category has been introduced. These candidates shall be preferred for admission for up to 25% of the total seats available in the B.A., LLB (Hons) and LL.M programs offered by NLSIU.
  • General Category candidates who are 'Karnataka Students' shall benefit from a 5% concession on the General Merit cut-off score obtained in CLAT 2020. Check Revised NLSIU Seat Matrix Notice

July 01, 2020: Selecting Test Centers for CLAT 2020

  • Previously candidates had chosen the CLAT Exam Centers for offline mode of exam i.e., pen and paper mode.
  • But, now the exam authorities have implemented the computer-based exam. Hence, candidates must choose their desired location for taking up the exam by July 10, 2020.
  • The final list of test centers will be updated by the 1st Week of August based on the candidate's preferences and center viability.

June 30, 2020: Exam Date Announced for CLAT 2020

  • The Consortium of National Law Universities has announced CLAT Exam Date 2020 which will be conducted in online mode across various exam centers.
  • The CLAT 2020 is scheduled for August 22, 2020, Saturday. The last date for registration has been extended until 10th July 2020.
  • The examination will include 120 MCQ questions to be answered in 120 minutes. There will be no Descriptive Section in CLAT 2020. Check Exam Dates Notice
  • New CLAT Exam Date is announced. The CLAT 2020 Exam is scheduled on 22nd August 2020 in online mode. The applications can be filled until 10th July 2020.
  • Candidates are advised to select or reconfirm their exam centers or withdraw the applications by 10th July 2020. 

June 29, 2020: Medical Precautions for CLAT 2020 Exam

  • This year, the Common Law Admission Test will be conducted in online mode with certain precautions due to the current scenario. The Exam Authorities will be using “Social Distanced Computer-Based Testing” which will ensure safe attempting of the exam. Schedule for Supplementary Study Materials Published by Official Authority

  • The official authority has published a schedule for accessing the study material for UG and PG exam both. The applicants will have to log in on the official website and access the preparation material published. 

Consortium of NLUs announce separate Telegram Channel for Updates (Both UG and PG)

  • Students worried about the exam date and other important updates related to the exam can now join the Telegram Channel created by Consortium. 

Sample Paper Published for All Registered Candidates

  • Consortium has published the third sample paper for UG program applicants to boost the preparation. Only registered applicants can access and solve it. 
  • Solve CLAT Question Paper for knowing the difficulty level of the exam and estimate which type of questions can be asked.

Seat Matrix (Eligibility) for All Categories Changed

  • The official authorities have announced changes in the seat matrix announced earlier. Few categories have certain advantages. Aspirants can check the complete allotment of CLAT Seats 2020 for each college and know the number of seats available for each category.

Sample Paper for PG Applicants Published

  • The official authority has published a sample paper for CLAT PG preparation for all registered candidates. Candidates are advised to download the sample papers and solve them regularly. 

May 18, 2020: Registrations Extended

  • The Executive Committee of Consortium of National Law Universities has again extended the CLAT Registration until 1st July 2020. The CLAT Exam Date has not yet been notified. The Exam Authorities will announce the exam date soon. 

April 21, 2020: Registration Last Date Extended

  • The Consortium of National Law Universities has extended the online applications until 18th May 2020. The CLAT Exam is also postponed to 21st June 2020. Aspirants can fill the form only in online mode from the official website.

March 27, 2020: CLAT 2020 Exam Date Postponed

  • CLAT 2020 Exam Date postponed to May 24, 2020, which was earlier scheduled on 10th May 2020. The registration date extended to April 25, 2020. Aspirants can fill the forms in online mode until 25th April.

January 1, 2020: Apply Online Link Activated

  • CLAT 2020 Application Form released on the official website. Fill the application form from the official website only. Go through the step by step instructions to fill the form and upload documents correctly. 

December 23, 2019: New Exam Pattern & Syllabus PDF

  • The consortium of NLUs’ official website updated with the schedule, new exam pattern, syllabus, marking scheme, list of participating institutes, etc. Candidates are advised to check the new CLAT Exam Pattern and study each topic accordingly.

December 11, 2019: New Changes in Exam Pattern Introduced

What is CLAT?

Common-Law Admission Test, also known as CLAT, is an offline test conducted by the CNLUs in order to admit eligible candidates to the undergraduate and postgraduate law courses. The list of participating institutes goes up to 21 NLUs, 53 private and participating colleges. This year, due to the wake of the current situation, the exam has been rescheduled to be held on May 24, 2020, between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM. 

Changes in CLAT Exam Pattern

As per the CLAT Latest Updates 2020, the following changes have been introduced in the CLAT Exam Pattern. Here are the major changes listed as per the CLAT Latest News. Enhance your preparation by following these changes.

  • The number of questions in CLAT 2020 for undergraduate aspirants has been reduced to 150 from 200 questions. 
  • Earlier, the level of the examination was determined on the basis of 10th standard students, however, now the questions for CLAT UG 2020 exam will be according to students of 12th standard.
  • However, the quantitative aptitude section will be based on the level of class 10th standard.
  • CLAT 2020 Syllabus will cover questions from English, General Knowledge and Current Affairs, Logical Reasoning, Legal Reasoning, and Quantitative Abilities.
  • The marking scheme will include the deduction of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer. 
  • For CLAT PG (conducted for LLM admissions), the cut-off system has been introduced. Candidates will have to score a minimum of 40% marks (35% marks for SC/ST/PwD students). 
  • PG aspirants will be able to take descriptive tests only if they qualify for the objective test.

FAQ's

Do the NLUs cosnider Class 12 marks for admission?

The NLUs which are part of CLAT has the basic eligibility condition of 45% or above marks in aggregate in Class XII. Other than that, no consideration is given to class XII marks.

Can I get extra sheets or papers for calculations and rough work in the exam?

Yes, the students who will appear in the exam hall to write the paper shall get the sheets for calculations or rough work by the invigilators themselves. So, candidates are advised not to carry any kind of papers/notebooks, etc with them in the paper

Are there any items which are banned in the CLAT exam hall?

Yes, there are many times which are not permitted in the exam center. Read the following for the same:

  • Electronic Devices (Mobile Phones/Laptops/Bluetooth/Pager/Health Band/Camera, etc)
  • Metallic Items
  • Stationery Items (Pens/Pencil/Notebooks/Textual Material/Books/Chits/Calculator, etc.)

How does the allotment of NLUs happen through CLAT?

While applying for CLAT, every candidate is required to submit the preference of the National Law Universities. The preference matching to the rank of the candidate is considered while allotting the National Law University. Apart from domicile, gender, caste category is also considered as each NLU has different seat allocation for each category of student.

What is the mode of CLAT 2020 Exam?

The CLAT 2020 Exam is conducted in online mode at different test cities. This year, the Consortium is also taking extra precautions for the conduction of the exam. 

What is the age eligibility condition to apply for CLAT 2020?

There is no upper age limit applicable to anyone who wants to apply for the exam. This practice has been started in the year 2016. The lower age limit has to be 20 years old and for the candidates who belong to SC/ST and PhD (Physically Disabled) categories, the lower age limit is 22 years old.
