Himachal Pradesh Judiciary Exam Previous Year Question papers include Prelims and Mains papers set by the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) for Civil Judge recruitment.
HPPSC conducts the exam in three stages: Prelims (300 marks, qualifying), Mains (850 marks) and Viva-Voce (150 marks).
Prelims marks do not count in the final merit. Only Mains + Viva (1,000 marks) decide selection.
Prelims syllabus is the same as Mains Papers I to III, so solving one stage's papers helps the other.
Key Points About Himachal Pradesh Judiciary Exam Previous Year Question Papers
For Prelims the pattern has been changed. Each paper now has 50 MCQs of 2 marks with no negative marking.
Up to 20 times the number of vacancies are called for Mains, and 3 candidates per vacancy are called for the Viva.
In Mains, candidates need 40% in each law paper, 33% in Hindi and 45% in aggregate. The Viva has its own 45% bar.
Himachal-specific Acts (H.P. Courts Act 1976, H.P. Urban Rent Control Act, H.P. Excise Act 2011) appear in the syllabus and are where most outside-state aspirants lose marks.
The 2024 syllabus still names the IPC, CrPC and Indian Evidence Act, while BNS, BNSS and BSA have been in force since 1 July 2024.
Benefits of Solving Himachal Pradesh Judiciary Previous Year Papers
You learn HPPSC's style, not a coaching institute's. Mock tests are written by people guessing what the examiner wants. Previous papers are the examiner.
You find the local-law gap early. Most aspirants from outside Himachal have never read the H.P. Urban Rent Control Act or the H.P. Courts Act. One paper is enough to show you how much you are missing.
You get the timing right for the new format. At 50 questions per hour, you need a steady pace, not speed. Timed practice on real papers builds that.
You stop over-reading low-yield topics. When a chapter hasn't shown up in five years of papers, you can revise it lightly and spend the time on sections that keep returning.
Mains answer writing gets a target. The 2019 Mains papers show how questions are framed, so you can practise structure (issue, provision, case law, conclusion) against real prompts.
The language papers stop being an afterthought. English carries 150 marks and Hindi 100, with a 33% floor in Hindi. Old papers show the essay and translation format so these marks don't slip away.
How to Effectively Use Himachal Pradesh Judiciary Previous Year Papers?
Read the syllabus first, then open a paper. Keep the 2024 notification beside you so you know which Act each question belongs to.
Start with the latest papers. Solve the 2024-cycle and 2023 papers before going back to 2014. Recent papers reflect the current syllabus, including the sexual-offences module.
Sit all three Prelims papers in one go. The real exam puts them on a single day. Do Civil Law-I, Civil Law-II and Criminal Law back to back, 60 minutes each, with short breaks.
Keep an error log. Write the question, the section involved and why you got it wrong (didn't know, misread, confused two provisions). Revise the log every week.
Write at least one full Mains answer per day. Pick a question from the 2019 Mains paper, write it in 20 to 25 minutes, and compare with the bare Act and a standard textbook.
Repeat a paper after 30 days. If you still miss the same questions, that topic needs a fresh read, not more practice.
How to Prepare for Himachal Pradesh Judiciary 2026 Exam?
The next HP Judiciary notification has not been announced yet. Going by the last cycle, Prelims followed the notification by about 11 weeks (15 December 2024 to 2 March 2025), so you will not get much warning. Plan as if you have 6 months.

Common Mistakes to Avoid While Using Himachal Pradesh Judiciary Previous Year Papers
Practising old papers at the old speed. The 2023 and earlier papers had 100 questions an hour. Today it is 50. Don't train yourself to rush.
Skipping the Himachal State Acts. They feel small, so students push them to the last week. Then a question on the H.P. Urban Rent Control Act costs 2 marks you could have banked.
Trusting unofficial answer keys. Coaching keys often disagree with HPPSC's final key. Use the official key and the bare Act.
Ignoring the IPC-to-BNS shift. All previous papers cite IPC and CrPC sections. If the next syllabus moves to BNS and BNSS, you need both numbers in your head.
Treating Prelims as the finish line. Prelims marks vanish after shortlisting. If you have not written Mains answers by the time the Prelims result comes out, you will have very little time left.
Leaving Hindi to chance. The 33% floor in Paper V is a hard cut. Aspirants from non-Hindi backgrounds should practise translation and essay writing from day one.
Solving papers without reviewing them. A solved paper with no error log teaches you very little. The review is where the marks come from.
