NMAT Preparation: How to start the NMAT Preparation?

  • Candidates planning to start the NMAT Preparation in advance, especially with 6 months in hand, should do it strategically, make a proper study plan, and follow it religiously.
  • Before making a study plan, candidates should ensure that certain steps of NMAT Preparation are followed for the smooth execution of the plan they will prepare!
    1. NMAT Preparation should always start with studying the NMAT Exam Pattern and Syllabus to determine what topics to study and what topics to avoid.
    2. Solve the Previous Year’s Question Paper to check your current level and identify your strengths and weaknesses so that you can plan your NMAT Preparation accordingly.
    3. Focus more on your weaknesses, but never ignore your strengths. It is very important to turn your weaknesses into strengths, but it is also equally important to keep polishing your strengths so you do not lose their hold.
    4. Gather all the necessary NMAT Preparation resources and NMAT Preparation Books in advance.
    5. Make a time-bound NMAT Preparation plan and dedicate 3-4 hours daily to cover the entire syllabus.
    6. The NMAT Preparation plan should include regular mock tests and shouldn’t be left only at the end after completing the entire syllabus. It is important to note that mock tests prepare you for the exam environment and stress management, in addition to helping with the syllabus. Hence, mock tests should go hand in hand with the NMAT preparation.
    7. The NMAT Preparation plan should devote proper time to the revision of the syllabus and shortcut tricks.

NMAT Preparation: How to Prepare for NMAT in 6 months?

  • NMAT Preparation Start Date: May/June
  • NMAT Preparation Over Date: November/December

NMAT preparation can be completed very calmly in 6 months by devoting 3-4 hours daily to cracking the exam. The NMAT Preparation plan should be something similar to the plan below:

  • The most important part of the NMAT Preparation is reading news articles and newspapers daily to improve your reading and articulation speed.
  • The First step of NMAT Preparation is to study the NMAT Exam Pattern and Syllabus to determine the topics to cover and estimate the areas of strength and weakness.
  • Conduct a Pre-Mock Test to analyse your current level and note your strengths and weaknesses.
  • In the first part of NMAT Preparation, devote 120-150 minutes daily to your strong areas and practice the difficult-level questions for all the sections of the NMAT.
  • Study the Shortcut tricks for the strong areas and try to solve the questions with those tricks to keep them at your fingertips and add them to your mental and physical reflex systems.
  • The second part of NMAT Preparation should focus on the weaker areas. You should take one section(QS, LR, LS) and give 120-150 minutes to the topics you are weak at and try to convert them to your strengths.
  • The NMAT Preparation for weaker areas should not focus solely on Theory. It should be the combination of the first theory of one topic and then questions of that topic. You should try to cover at least 50 questions each for the Easy, Medium and Difficult categories.
  • Enrol in a Question Bank and Mock series from a good coaching institute to access the latest question types and shortcut tricks. NMAT Preparation is incomplete without a good question bank.
  • You can also purchase the latest versions of NMAT Preparation Books or the official NMAT Book by GMAC for the question bank and Mock Tests.
  • The perfect NMAT Preparation plan should include solving 5-7 Reading Comprehensions, 5-7 sets of DI & LR each and a minimum of 50 questions each for all the remaining sections.
  • Students should try solving questions in a time-bound environment daily to adapt to the exam environment and stress levels and learn time management.

Even if you don’t have 6 months for NMAT preparation, there is no need to get demotivated. It is not the number of months that matters for NMAT preparation; instead, you can divide it into some hours.

The total hours required to prepare for NMAT is 500-600. This time can be shortened depending upon the clarity of concepts you possess at the start of preparation. If the basics of all subjects are clear, NMAT preparation can also be done in 250-300 hours.
