AIBE Exam Eligibility Criteria 2023

The Bar Council of India (BCI) prescribes the eligibility criteria of AIBE XVIII (18) for the candidates appearing for the AIBE Exam 2023. You must meet the AIBE XVII eligibility criteria before filling out the application form. The eligibility criteria include academic qualification, registration with the state bar council, and others.

Educational Qualification

  • To apply for AIBE XVIII (18), you must have completed a 3-year or 5-year LLB degree from a BCI-accredited institution.
  • Candidates applying for AIBE XVIII (18) should have completed their 3-year LLB or 5-year LLB program from an institute recognized by the BCI. You must have completed your graduate program after July 1, 2015.

 Age Limits

You must be enrolled with your respective State Bar Council and possess an Advocate Card.

There are no minimum marks or age requirements to take the AIBE XVIII (18) exam.

Important:

  • You must pass the AIBE Exam 2023 within two years of receiving your diploma. 
  • If this does not occur within two years after graduation, you will be required to re-register/enrol with the state bar council to take the AIBE exam.

AIBE exam pattern outlines the AIBE Exam 2023 structure, format, and mode. It is a prerequisite to be well aware of the latest exam pattern of AIBE.

Till 2020, AIBE was an open-book exam. However, in 2021 BCI changed this pattern. It means that candidates can no longer take the help of books and study material to attempt/solve the question paper.

However, you are allowed to carry Bare Acts without notes with them. 

Also, note that the AIBE is held in 40 cities across India. That gives you the option of choosing a language out of 11 languages for attempting the examination.

 AIBE 2023 Application Form 

The Bar Council of India (BCI) will shortly begin the online registration procedure for the All India Bar Examination, which is conducted every year to award qualifying lawyers a "Certificate of Practice."

  • Upload all the required documents, i.e., Photograph, Signature & Enrolment Certificate.
  • Only enrolled advocates can take this exam, and any institution can issue an enrolment number/certificate.
  • State bar council is mandatory for application to this examination. 
  • Self-attestation is required for all documents.
  • There will be no study materials given.
  • To take the AIBE, you must be registered with the State Bar Council.

Note on Recent Amendments

The Admit Card includes points 11 and 12 with recent amendments:

  • For candidates with 40% or more disability, an extra 20 minutes per hour is permitted. Provide a certified copy of your disability certificate for the invigilator's reference.
  • In cases where a candidate is unable to write the exam due to disability, a scribe is allowed, preferably a class 10th or 12th student (not from Humanities with Political Science/Legal Studies). The scribe must carry relevant documents. The scribe's qualification should be slightly below the candidate's and should not be related to humanities subjects.

 AIBE 2023 Result 

The BCI will declare the results of the AIBE XVIII soon after the exam. The AIBE Result only states the status of the candidate since no rank card is released.

The result states the qualifying status of the candidate, i.e., Pass or Fail. 

  • The Bar Council of India (BCI) issues a Certificate of Practice (CoP) if you pass the exam. This certificate is mandatory to practice Law, and Precisely, this certificate is a license to practice Law in India. 
  • However, If you fail the examination, you can apply for rechecking of the AIBE Answer sheet for re-evaluation. 
  • The last date for rechecking and related relevant guidelines is issued by the Bar Council of India (BCI).
  • You can also appear in the next edition of the  AIBE Examination as there is no age bar.
  • Also, note that there is no limit on the number of AIBE attempts, so you can re-appear in the exam if required.
