NMAT 2026 Selection Process: Step-by-Step

Getting into an MBA program using your NMAT 2026 score involves a few key steps:

  1. Take the NMAT 2026 Exam: First, register and take the exam. Only those who take the exam can be considered for admission.
  2. Check Your NMAT Result and Cut-off: After the exam, business schools (B-schools) will announce their NMAT 2026 cut-off scores. You'll need to score above this cut-off to move forward in the selection process for a particular B-school.
  3. Attend Screening Rounds: If you clear the cut-off, you'll be invited to participate in further screening rounds organised by the B-school. These usually include:
    • Group Discussion (GD): You'll discuss a topic with other candidates.
    • Written Ability Test (WAT): You might need to write an essay on a given topic.
    • Personal Interview (PI): You'll have a one-on-one interview with a panel.

Final Selection: Your final selection will depend on how well you perform in these screening rounds (GD, WAT, PI). Each MBA college decides how much weight it gives to your NMAT score and how much to your performance in these later rounds.

NMAT Selection Criteria 2026: Written Ability Test

The Written Ability Test (WAT) of the NMAT selection criteria requires candidates to write an essay on a topic within a recommended word limit. This test assesses the candidate's writing skills and ability to communicate effectively.

The essay is evaluated based on grammar, language usage, vocabulary, and clarity of thought.

It's essential to remember that not all business schools require the Written Ability Test (WAT). However, for those who do, it's crucial to ensure that the essay is:

  • Grammatically correct
  • Rich in vocabulary
  • Relevant facts and figures (preferred)

NMAT Selection Criteria 2026: Group Discussion Round

In this round, 9-10 candidates are given a topic to discuss for a set duration.

This round assesses your communication skills, confidence, ability to adapt to different perspectives, and knowledge of various topics.

The examiner wants to gauge your ability to express yourself clearly and your openness to other people's ideas.

NMAT Selection Criteria 2026: Personal Interview Round

The Personal Interview (PI) is similar to a group discussion, except that you will face a panel of three to four interviewers. This panel will consist of experienced individuals from NMAT-participating institutes and experts in specific subjects.

During the interview, they will evaluate your personality, communication skills, confidence level, academics, and work experience (if any). Hence, being well-prepared for the interview and presenting yourself at your best is essential.
