Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen won the Bulgaria Open title
Lakshya Sen on Thursday clinched the Bulgaria Open International Series title after notching up a hard-fought win over Croatia’s Zvonimir Durkinjak in the men’s singles final in Sofia, Bulgaria.
● The Uttarakhand shuttler, who celebrated his 16th birthday on Wednesday, defeated second seed Zvonimir 18-21, 21-12, 21-17 in a 57-minute match.
● He had beaten Sri Lanka’s Dinuka Karunaratna 21-19, 21-14 in the semi-finals yesterday.
● World Junior No 1 was recently sent to train under former All England champion Peter Gade, who is currently the head coach of French national team.
● Lakshya had earlier reached the finals of Senior National championship in February.
India signs Grant Agreement with the World Bank
A Grant Agreement from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) of the World Bank of USD 24.64 million for “Ecosystem Service Improvement Project” was signed here today by Shri Sameer Kumar Khare, Joint Secretary (MI), Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Finance on behalf of the Government of India and Mr. Hisham Abdo Kahin, Acting Country Director for India on behalf of the World Bank.
● The Project Agreements were signed by Dr Neelu Gera, DDG (Research) on behalf of the Indian Council of Forestry Research & Education (ICFRE), Shri Amitabh Agnihotri, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests on behalf of Madhya Pradesh Government and Shri R.B.P. Sinha, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests on behalf of Chhattisgarh Government with the Acting Country Director for India, World Bank.
● The size of Project is USD 24.64 million which entirely will be financed by the World Bank out of its GEF Trust Fund. The project’s duration is 05 years.
Five Indian-origin persons in Fortune's '40 Under 40' list
Five Indian-origin persons, including Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, have featured in Fortune's annual list of 40 young and influential people in the field of business inspiring others with their work.
● Fortune's 2017 '40 Under 40' list is an annual ranking of the most influential young people who are under 40 in business, whom the magazine termed as "disruptors, innovators, rebels and artists" inspiring others.
● The list has been topped by 39-year-old French President Emmanuel Macron "France's youngest leader since Napoleon" who swept the presidential elections in May "obliterating the two-party system that had governed the country for generations."
● The Indian-origin persons on the list are 26-year-old Divya Nag, who oversees Apple's ambitious ResearchKit and CareKit programmes that encourage developers to build health-related apps, Rishi Shah, 31, and Shradha Agarwal, 32, who helm more than 10-year-old health-tech firm Outcome Health and CEO and founder of non-profit Samasource 31-year-old Leila Janah.
Veteran photographer S Paul died
S Paul, the veteran photographer who was described as 'The Henry Cartier-Bresson of India' by B&W Magazine of US, died in New Delhi on 16 August 2017.
● He was 88.
● He died at a private hospital after undergoing a surgery a few days ago.
● A self-taught photographer, Paul discovered his passion for the art as a teenager.
● He joined The Indian Express in the 1960s and retired from the newspaper in 1989.
● Paul received recognition and fame as a professional photographer when his pictures were selected for publication in three renowned British publications -- Amateur Photographer, Miniature Camera and Miniature Camera World.
BSNL launches mobile wallet
State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) has launched its mobile wallet in partnership with MobiKwik, reported a national news agency.
● The mobile wallet will enable one-tap bill payment for BSNL's over 100 million subscribers. Besides, the subscribers will also be able to use the digital wallet at over 1.5 million merchants across India.
● According to the company's statement, the digital wallet, developed by MobiKwik for BSNL, is in line with the telecom corporation's intent to take the reach of digital payments to semi-urban and rural India.
● The app will allow users to pay for online recharges, make bill payments, shop and book bus and train tickets.

Defense Ministry clears proposal to procure 6 Apache attack helicopters for Army
Defence Ministry on 17 August 2017 cleared a proposal to procure 6 Apache attack helicopters for Army.
● The acquisition of the helicopters, equipment and training will cost around four thousand 168 crore rupees.
● The approved proposal is different from India’s purchase of 22 Apache and 15 Chinook helicopters from Boeing in 2015 for Rs 13 952 crores for the Air Force.
● As per reports, the decision on procuring 6 Apache attack helicopters was taken in Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) meeting chaired by Defence Minister Arun Jaitley in New Delhi
● The helicopters are being bought under an option clause of 50 percent repeat order in the previous deal under which 22 Apache attack choppers were bought for the IAF.
● The deadline for using the option clause is to end on 28 September 2017.

Vishal Sikka resigns as Infosys CEO
Vishal Sikka on 18 August 2017 resigned as Managing Director and CEO of Infosys.
● The board has accepted his resignation with immediate effect.
● Infosys in a notice to stock exchanges said Sikka will remain with Infosys as executive vice-chairman.
● The position is a newly created position at Infosys.
● Infosys, second largest software exporter of India, has appointed chief operating officer UB Pravin Rao as interim managing director and CEO.
● In June 2014, Indian-American Vishal Sikka took over as the first non-founder Chief Executive of Infosys.

Union Environment Ministry launches Harit Diwali, Swasth Diwali Campaign
Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dr Harsh Vardhan on 17 August 2017 launched the “Harit Diwali, Swasth Diwali” campaign.
● The Ministry also administered a Pledge for a Green and Healthy Diwali to the gathering of students.
● The Pledge will be widely circulated to the schools, colleges and other educational institutions.
● The ministry launched the campaign while addressing a gathering of about 800 children from schools of Delhi and NCR.
● The campaign is aimed at enlightening the children about harmful firecrackers.

केंद्र सरकार ने ‘हरित दीवाली स्वस्थ दीवाली’ अभियान का शुभारंभ किया
प्रदूषण स्तर कम करने हेतु केंद्र सरकार ने ‘हरित दीवाली स्वस्थ दीवाली’ अभियान का शुभारंभ किया.
● ‘हरित दीवाली, स्वस्थ दीवाली’ अभियान को सफल बनाने हेतु केंद्रीय पर्यावरण, वन और जलवायु परिवर्तन मंत्री डॉ. हर्षवर्धन ने दिल्ली और एनसीआर के लगभग 800 स्कूली बच्चों को प्रेरित किया.
● केंद्रीय जलवायु परिवर्तन मंत्री डॉ. हर्षवर्धन ने बच्चों से बम-पटाखों में मौजूद रसायनों और उसके मानव शरीर के विभिन्न अंगों पर पड़ने वाले प्रभावों की जानकारी दी.
● केन्द्रीय मंत्री डॉ. हर्षवर्धन ने बच्चों को हरित और स्वस्थ दीवाली की शपथ दिलायी.
● बच्चों को प्रेरणा दी गई कि इससे बचाव हेतु वह इस दीवाली पर पटाखे खरीदने की बजाय अपने मुहल्लों में गरीबों और वंचित बच्चों हेतु कोई गिफ्ट, खाद्य पदार्थ या मिठाई खरीदें.
● केंद्र सरकार हरित दीवाली स्वस्थ दीवाली अभियान को सफल बनाने हेतु व्यापक रूप से स्कूलों, कॉलेजों और अन्य शिक्षण संस्थानों में छात्रों को जागरूक बनाकर शपथ दिलाएगी.
केंद्र सरकार ने 6 अपाचे अटैक हेलिकॉप्टर खरीद को स्वीकृति प्रदान की
डिफेंस मिनिस्ट्री ने आर्मी के लिए 6 अपाचे अटैक हेलिकॉप्टर खरीदने के प्रस्ताव को मंजूरी प्रदान कर दी.
● डिफेंस पर्चेस क्लियर करने वाली रक्षा अधिग्रहण परिषद (डीएसी) की मीटिंग 17 अगस्त 2017 को दिल्ली में हुई.
● भारत इस एएच-64ई अपाचे हेलीकॉप्टर के साथ अमेरिका से संबद्ध उपकरण, स्पेयर पार्ट्स, प्रशिक्षण एवं गोला-बारूद भी लेगा.
● बैठक की अध्यक्षता डिफेंस और फाइनेंस मिनिस्टर अरुण जेटली ने की.
● इन छह अपाचे जंगी हेलिकॉप्टरों की खरीद पर कुल 4,168 करोड़ का खर्च आएगा.
● इसके अलावा डीएसी ने यूक्रेन से दो गैस टर्बाइन सेट भी खरीदने को मंजूरी दे दी.
● ये गैस टर्बाइन सेट रूस में भारत के लिए तैयार किए जा रहे दो ग्रिगोरोविच क्लास गाइडेड मिसाइल स्टील्थ फ्रिगेट पोतों के लिए खरीदे जाएंगे.
● इन गैस टर्बाइन सेट की कीमत 490 करोड़ रुपये होगी.
● गत वर्ष मोदी पुतिन मीटिंग में नेवी शिप पर फैसला हुआ था. इसका वजन चार हजार टन है.
फार्चून की सालाना ‘40 अंडर 40’ सूची में भारतीय मूल के पांच लोग सम्मिलित
अमेरिका की पत्रिका फार्चून ने वर्ष 2017 की ‘40 अंडर 40’ सर्वाधिक प्रभावी युवा लोगों की वार्षिक सूची जारी की है.
● फार्चून द्वारा जारी की गई इस सूची में आयरलैंड के प्रधानमंत्री लियो वरादकर सहित भारतीय मूल के पांच लोग शामिल किये गये हैं.
● सूची में उन लोगों को प्राथमिकता दी गयी है जिन्होंने अपन ने काम से अन्य व्यक्तियों को प्रोत्साहित किया. यह वह लोग हैं जिनकी उम्र 40 साल से कम है और अपना काम कर रहे हैं.
● पत्रिका ने ऐसे लोगों को नवप्रर्वतक, विद्रोही और कलाकार तथा अन्य को प्रोत्साहित करने वाला बताया है.
● सूची में फ्रांस के 39 साल के राष्ट्रपति एमानुएल मैक्रोन पहले पायदान पर हैं. यह नेपोलियन के बाद सबसे युवा नेता हैं जिन्होंने मई में राष्ट्रपति चुनाव में जीत हासिल की.
● सूची में फेसबुक के संस्थापक मार्क जुकरबर्ग दूसरे स्थान पर हैं. उनके बाद एयरबीएनबी के मुख्य कार्यपालक अधिकारी तथा सह-संस्थापक ब्रायन चेसकी, नाथन ब्लेचारासाइक, जोइ गेबिया चोथे तथा टेनिस स्टार सेरेना विलयम्स सातवें स्थान पर हैं.
भारत ने विश्व बैंक के साथ अनुदान समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किया
भारत ने ‘पारिस्थितिक तंत्र सेवा सुधार परियोजना’ हेतु विश्वि बैंक के साथ 24.64 मिलियन अमेरिकी डालर का वैश्विक पर्यावरण सुगमता (जीईएफ) अनुदान समझौते किया है.
● भारत सरकार के वित्त मंत्रालय की ओर से आर्थिक मामलों के विभाग के संयुक्त सचिव समीर कुमार खरे और विश्व बैंक के भारत में कार्यकारी कंट्री डायरेक्टर हिशम एबदो काहिन ने इस समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किये.
● भारतीय वन अनुसंधान एवं शिक्षा परिषद (आईसीएफआरई) की ओर से अनुसंधान उप महानिदेशक डॉ. नीलू गेरा, मध्यप्रदेश सरकार की ओर से अपर प्रधान प्रमुख वन संरक्षक अमिताभ अग्निहोत्री, छत्तीसगढ़ सरकार की ओर से अपर प्रधान प्रमुख वन संरक्षक आर. बी. पी. सिन्हा ने विश्व बैंक के भारत में कार्यकारी कंट्री डायरेक्टर के साथ परियोजना समझौतों पर हस्ताक्षर किये.
● यह परियोजना 24.64 मिलियन अमेरिकी डालर की है.
● इसका वहन पूर्ण रूप से विश्व बैंक का वैश्विक पर्यावरण सुगमता (जीईएफ) ट्रस्ट फंड करेगा. परियोजना की अवधि 5 वर्ष है.
बीएसएनएल ने मोबाइल वॉलेट का शुभारम्भ किया
बीएसएनएल ने मोबिक्विक के साथ साझेदारी करके मोबाइल वॉलेट का शुभारम्भ किया है. बीएसएनएल मोबाइल वॉलेट के माध्यम से यूजर्स ऑनलाइन भुगतान आसानी से कर पाएंगे.
● ई-कॉमर्स कंपनी अमेजन इंडिया के बाद सरकारी क्षेत्र की दूरसंचार कंपनी भारत संचार निगम लिमिटेड (बीएसएनएल) ने भी अपना मोबाइल वॉलेट का शुभारम्भ कर दिया है.
● वॉलेट के माध्यम से कंपनी के मौजूदा 10 करोड़ ग्राहक बिल भुगतान या कोई भी ऑनलाइन पेमेंट आसानी से कर सकेंगे.
● बीएसएनएल वॉलेट को पेमेंट सिस्टम और डिजिटल वॉलेट कंपनी मोबिक्विक ने तैयार किया है.
● मोबिक्विक के संस्थापक और मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी बिपिन प्रीत सिंह के अनुसार “बीएसएनएल वॉलेट लोगों को बिलों का भुगतान करने, फोन रिचार्ज करने तथा दैनिक खरीदारी का भुगतान सेकेंडों में करने की सुविधा देगा.
● इससे बीएसएनएल वॉलेट यूजर्स ऑनलाइन रिचार्ज, बिल पेमेंट, टिकट बुकिंग आदि काम आसानी से कर पाएंगे.
भारतीय शटलर लक्ष्य सेन ने बुल्गारिया ओपन खिताब जीता
भारतीय शटलर लक्ष्य सेन ने 17 अगस्त 2017 को बुल्गारिया ओपन इंटरनेशनल सीरीज का पुरुष सिंगल्स खिताब जीत लिया.
● लक्ष्य सेन ने फाइनल में दूसरे वरीय क्रोएशिया के जोनिमीर दुर्किनजाक को 57 मिनट तक चले मैच में 18-21, 21-12, 21-17 से हराया.
● लक्ष्य सेन ने 16 अगस्त 2017 को सेमीफाइनल में श्रीलंका के दिनुका करुणारत्ना को सीधे सेट में 21-19, 21-14 से हराया था.
● विश्व के नंबर एक जूनियर खिलाड़ी लक्ष्य को हाल ही में पूर्व ऑल इंग्लैंड चैंपियन पीटर गेड की देखरेख में ट्रेनिंग के लिए भेजा गया था.
● पीटर गेड वर्तमान में फ्रांस की राष्ट्रीय टीम के मुख्य कोच हैं.

इंफोसिस के सीईओ विशाल सिक्का ने पद से इस्तीफा दिया
विशाल सिक्का ने इंफोसिस के मैनेजिंग डायेक्ट (एमडी) और चीफ एग्जीक्यूटिव ऑफिसर (सीईओ) पद से इस्तीफा दे दिया.
● विशाल सिक्का के इस्तीफा के बाद शेयर मार्किट में कंपनी के शेयर गिर गए. कीमतें सात फीसदी तक गिर गईं.
● इंफोसिस ने उनके स्थान पर यूबी प्रवीण राव को अंतरिम सीईओ और एमडी नियुक्त किया है. यूबी प्रवीण राव अब तक चीफ ऑपरेटिंग ऑफिसर थे.
● कंपनी के अनुसार बोर्ड ऑफ डायरेक्टर्स ने विशाल सिक्का का इस्तीफा मंजूर कर लिया. बॉम्बे स्टॉक एक्सचेंज (BSE) को लिखे पत्र में कंपनी सेक्रेटरी एजीएस मणीकांत ने इस बात की पुष्टि की.
● मणीकांत के अनुसार विशाल सिक्का का इस्तीफा 18 अगस्त को हुई बोर्ड मीटिंग में स्वीकार कर लिया गया.
● इंफोसिस बोर्ड ने विशाल सिक्का को एक्जीक्युटिव वाइस चेयरमैन नियुक्त किया है.
● विशाल सिक्का नए स्थायी मैनेजिंग डायरेक्टर तथा सीईओ के पदभार ग्रहण करने तक इन्फोसिस के एक्ज़ीक्यूटिव वाइस-चेयरमैन पद पर बने रहेंगे. यह नियुक्ति 31 मार्च, 2018 से पहले कर दी जाएगी.
मशहूर फोटोग्राफर एस पॉल का निधन
मशहूर फोटोग्राफर एस पॉल का 16 अगस्त 2017 को नई दिल्ली में निधन हो गया. वे 88 वर्ष के थे.
● उनका कुछ दिन पहले एक निजी अस्पताल में ऑपरेशन हुआ था.
● एस पॉल का असली नाम शर्म पॉल था और वो हिमाचल सरकार में एक सरकारी मुलाजिम थे.
● उन्होंने वर्ष 1960 में अंग्रेजी समाचारपत्र इंडियन एक्सप्रेस के लिए काम शुरू किया और वर्ष 1989 में वहां से सेवानिवृत्त हुए.
● फोटोग्राफी को लेकर जब भी उनसे सवाल किया गया उन्होंने यही कहा है कि फोटोग्राफी मेरी जान है.
● किशोरवस्था से ही उनमें फोटो खींचने का जुनून था और उनका यह शौक उन्हें विश्व का एक बेहतरीन फोटोग्राफर बनने में मददगार बना.
● एस पॉल का का जन्म वर्ष 1929 में पाकिस्तान के झेंग में हुआ था, लेकिन उन्हें विभाजन के बाद भारत आना पड़ा.
● यहां आने के बाद वो अपने परिवार के साथ शिमला में बसे. एस पॉल के एक छोटे भाई रघु राय है और वे भी फोटोग्राफी की दुनिया में मशहूर है.
