Impasse Ends, Karnataka to release Cauvery Water Finally
Karnataka on 3 October 2016 started releasing Cauvery water from Krishna Raja Sagara (KRS) dam.
● It was released after the legislature passed a Resolution authorizing the state government to take appropriate decisions to release water.
● The resolution states that the government will take an appropriate decision regarding the release of water for irrigation purposes after ensuring the drinking water requirements of the state.
● The move comes after the Supreme Court asked Karnataka government to appraise it whether it has released water to Tamil Nadu or not.
● On 30 September 2016, the Supreme Court directed Karnataka to discharge 6000 cusecs water from 1 to 6 October 2016.
● Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi said that the government is setting up a technical panel to assess the ground realities to defuse the wrangle between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

कर्नाटक ने 3 अक्टूबर को रोजाना 2000 क्यूसेक पानी तमिलनाडु के लिए छोड़ना शुरू कर दिया है ।
● इससे पहले सोमवार को कर्नाटक सरकार ने कावेरी बेसिन के किसानों के लिए पानी छोड़ने का निर्णय लिया था।
● विधानसभा के विशेष सत्र के दौरान मुख्यमंत्री सिद्धारमैया ने कहा कि राज्य सरकार के लिए यह जरूरी है कि मांड्या और मैसुरु इलाके में फसलों को बचाने के लिए पानी छोड़ा जाए।
● हालांकि, राज्य सरकार ने यह स्पष्ट नहीं किया था कि वह कितनी मात्रा में पानी छोड़ने पर विचार कर रही है।
● इससे पहले, सोमवार को सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने कर्नाटक से अपने पिछले आदेश पर स्टेटस रिपोर्ट मांगी थी।
● अपने पिछले आदेश में सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने कहा था कि कर्नाटक 6 दिनों तक तमिलनाडु को कावेरी का 6,000 क्यूसेक पानी दे।
● 30 सितंबर 2016, को सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने 1 से 6 अक्टूबर 2016 तक 6000 क्यूसेक पानी का निर्वहन करने के लिए कर्नाटक के निर्देश दिए।
